Why Did U.S. Park Police Shoot Bijan Ghaisar Nine Times? | AJ+

  • He was the victim of a minor rear-end accident. So why was Bijan Ghaisar, an unarmed 25-year-old man, shot and killed by the U.S. Park Police?
So much about this case is notable: the shooting itself, the treatment of his family, and the total silence from police about what actually happened that night.

Not true... there is no infiltration. That would suggest this was never a problem in the first place. No... this is a feature. This IS the system. People say this is not what America is about. This problem has always been apart of this country. I love my country. I've served in this man's Marine Corps, I'm not so blindly so-called "patriotic" I do not recognize the sins those in power have committed against many of the denizens of this country.

They should interrogate all police for any racially motivated thoughts. The investigators can go to the police mens homes at any time and inquire if they have been good allies. If not we can bring them in front of a tribunal where they must repent their sin or face consequences. If they wont confess to the inquisition torture may be necessary. I dony think there's been anything like this in history. We can call it "the inquisition". No one would expect them.

Ghaisar refused to just stop, roll down his window and talk to the officer. His death is overwhelmingly due to his own actions. He left the scene of an accident (felony), he attempted escape and resisted three times, each time while in a motor vehicle which could cause serious bodily harm or death. I don't even pretend to defend the Park "Police", who are a fifyh rate outfit and should not be armed, but he is still the primary contributor to his situation. Did the Park "Police" overreact? Probably, but Ghisan is totally to blame for it getting to that point.

Has anyone ever noticed that when these cops are standing right next to a vehicle they're trying to get in when they shoot unarmed drivers before they take out the vehicle? That close to a vehicle and you have a gun? You can shoot out the tires, radiator, engine, dash board. There must be a hundred ways several bullets can disable a vehicle that close. But instead they would rather kill unarmed people while quoting "I felt in fear of my life...…………………………………………………………………" Then you people let them get away with it! I don't know which is worse!

A more neuter description of the incident:
Ghaisar was traveling southbound along the George Washington Memorial Parkway in Alexandria City to his parents' house for dinner. While driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee, he was hit from behind by an Uber driver, who reported the traffic collision to 911. According to a report of the accident, Ghaisar pulled away without giving his information to the Uber driver. A lookout for his vehicle was announced and a Park Police car and Fairfax County Police car followed in pursuit. Ghaisar stopped his vehicle and was approached by a Park Police officer with his gun drawn. As Ghaisar drove off, the officer banged on the car with the gun, dropping his weapon. The pursuit continued at 57 miles per hour, in a zone that had a 50-mile-per-hour limit.
Ghaisar stopped a third time in the Fort Hunt area. Park Police parked a vehicle in front of Ghaisar's Jeep to prevent him from fleeing again. As his vehicle rolled away, Park Police fired nine shots in three different bursts.
    Condolences to the family.

@@joyjoyoo Guns drawn is a spin-off reaction to handguns everywhere in America. People don't understand that the price they pay for poor gun control is a major cause of escalating police reactions in America. I don't begrudge police their desire to survive a shift in the USA. Even without an identified gun on a fleeing suspect, trying to stop a car by hand on foot is not as easy as some may believe. If they had let him drive away, imagine the lawsuits from innocent bystanders killed by a fleeing suspect who could have been stopped sooner. Police don't have the advantage of full information when they come onto a scene.

So a guy get's into an accident and then flee's the scene. Police locate and pursue. Guns are drawn because their job is dangerous and they don't know who this individual is. The Driver is partly to blame for his death, but the Cop should be fired and sued civilly. Criminal charges could be brought for unnecessarily killing the individual. People forget that we don't have national requirements for police, so depending on the jurisdiction you are in, your local cop could be unqualified.
