At first this piece is terrifying (especially in the second movement) but it becomes a lot more manageable once you learn the mallet permutations. I played this on my college audition and learning it as a developing marimbist was a trying but ultimately confidence building experience for me.
Thanks so much for the feedback Adam! I think some of the volume issues came from the recording quality. The iPhone mic compresses the dynamic range, so some of my loudest moments didn’t exactly come across. But I will definitely work on varying my roll speeds in roll sections of future projects, and playing with some more rubato! Glad you enjoyed the *tshk* , that was completely unplanned 😂
Thank you for watching this week's video! Can't believe I played this piece 5 years ago... but yes it's always awesome to see you guys play amazing solo performances! Thanks to Liam and Bradley for sending in today's videos (in the description above) - and if you want to submit anything to this segment it's at adamtanpercussion.com/submit :) P.S. I totally didn't focus the camera properly for this video... note to self, stop using f1.2 😂 #TheStudioFamily
Hey Adam! Thank you so much for the feedback! I ended up using Mirage for pre screenings and Reflections on the Nature of Water for live auditions! It’s fun to look back on this piece after so much time off and see all the things I would do differently. I definitely agree with everything you said!
The first piece I started learning was Odessa never finished since my high school doesn’t have a 5.0 octave and the first piece I ever finished was Moon
Hey Adam. I'm going to UNLV for percussion this fall and learning marimba for the first time now! I'm doing well so far (fast learner/good teacher). Any tips for an up and comer?
