    I hate when they say the oldest manuscripts say this or it is not in the oldest manuscripts. If you research the disputed verses that bibles like the RSV and NIV omit, they are quoted by the Ante Nicene Fathers and that shows they go back a lot further than the Alexandrian copies.

      This is the only thing I do not like about my Allan bible, or rather, the Oxford Text block used in this Bible.

    • @Starkwolf88

      Agreed, not to mention the critical text they are talking about has so few manuscripts and the majority text has so so many.
      Does this Text block cast doubt in places? I have an Allen kjv and haven’t noticed anything yet.

    Even the "plain," "regular" black with navy lining and ribbons is great. Allan's Bibles are really special. The Longprimer is maybe the nicest KJV.

    I was looking at mine awhile back and seen that and was wondering why that is ?
    I love that edition it's such a cool paste down and the printing was excellent with that run.

    Have you ever done a video that compares Concord, Turquoise, etal? There are so many names given to the various texts that it becomes confusing as their names fly by in reviews. I'm sure it would have to be a two part video? If you have done a comparison, would you be so kind to provide the link? I never knew there were so many options until I started watching Bible reviewers like you. Thank you so much for the content you provide.

    If you had to pick from this or the really nice Concord with calfskin which would you pick? Also what Bible do the words go into the gutter more? Concord or Longprimer 52?

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  2 роки тому +1

      Both are excellent Bibles, but I personally prefer the Concord. I prefer the smaller size. I like the Bold reference System with the reference next to the verses and no callers in the text and that it has italics. However, the Longerprimer has excellent tools and more references. The Longprimer has more bend into the gutter because the block is thicker.

      Me also. Id rather have imitation liner inside cover than 28gsm . That said i have a 53 and 63 on order. I have a cambridge turquoise. Love the big print but that 28 feels like fly paper. Little water crinkles page. The 36gsm on rl allan tough as sheets of plywood . A comparison between my nkjv 36 gsm and allans. For some reason the rl allan feels sturdier

    Great review. I’ve been looking for a replacement for my Pitt Minion and had been considering this, but after your review I see it doesn’t have italics or red letters, and the cross reference system seems kind of clunky to me, so I think I’m going to keep looking. Nonetheless it’s a beautiful Bible and I’m sure appreciated by many.

    good review.... the most "mysterious" circumstance with the Allan KJV series is that the words in italics are printed as regular text.... i wonder why.... with this feature lacking, it is sort of not a "proper" KJV.... and of course, we have the textual notes added in the margin (replacing most of the original KJV translators' notes)... this feels a little like an "intrusion" on the KJV text, questioning the textual foundation of the KJV.... the textual notes seem to be based on the RV 1881 or the ASV 1901, kind of "correcting" the text according to the "revision" of the AV done in 1881-1901... the "best MSS" language is an inheritance from that era.... that said, there are some helpful marginal notes and it does not hurt to be made aware of variant readings....

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  9 місяців тому +1

      That's a tough one. Both have advantages. For the text, I prefer the Canterbury. I like the clean look and I like the glossary. For the Longprimer, I like the topical index. However, I do have access to better tools. Both have a good concordance and maps. If I had to choose just one, I'd grab the Canterbury.

    The footnotes in the Longprimer make me wanna pull my hair out. I’ve asked Allan if they’d consider publishing an Oxford text only Bible and they said no because there isn’t much of a market for that type of Bible. Apparently Christians no longer want the Holy Spirit to guide them into all truth and would rather be spoon fed by the publisher’s cross referencing and footnotes. Gail Riplinger has an article explaining why we need a revival of text only Bibles

      @@cmiddleton9872 I didn't say anything about KJV only. I said that I agreed with her that footnotes in the Bible, especially the notes criticizing the text of the KJV are troubling. And I agree with her that heresy begins in a noted Bible. My Bible is text only, no notes, no cross references, no mans opinion. Just me and the Holy Spirit as my teacher.

      @@godsfriend4120 God wants to be your teacher. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
      (Jn. 14:26). While I don’t think it’s a bad thing to learn from other Christians, I believe it must be frustrating for God to want to teach you all things but you constantly keep going to footnotes and cross references to try to learn. I truly believe we need one on one time with God in our Bible reading. Imagine reading the Bible, and every verse I personally stop you and say “the parallel passage to this verse is in Deuteronomy 6.” And then again you read and I stop you and say “A better reading to this verse is this” And then you begin to read again and I say “This prophecy will be fulfilled in 1 Thessalonians 4” Now wouldn’t that be frustrating for the reader and the teacher? God is the teacher, he doesn’t need to be constantly interrupted by some man’s input, even if the information is good. And neither does the student need to be interrupted and spoon fed what the Bible means.

    They need to get rid of cf and not in original text put some stitching around perimeter and do the archaic words and phrases to the side. Blow that font up a little bit to maybe a 12 font. Less gutter. Use 38gsm paper. And with the 62 do same also with. It would only efffect size a tad. Wish the Turquoise would give atleast 36 gsm paper with more helps in back. And give option of wide margin. I just like when I flip a page to have something to grab on instead of have to press to turn. Get rid of yap and offer a goatskin leather Y2k zipper seperate bible cover

    Given your knowledge about Bibles were Bible covers in the past as thin and flimsy as the ones on Allan longprimers?

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  3 роки тому

      Hi. I've only seen a few vintage editions, but those that I've seen were thicker and less flexible. The tab in the edge-lined editions was not stiff, so the covers stayed all the way open. Some, like the Oxford Long Primer and the Cambridge Concord, didn't have an overhang, so the cover ended at the edge of the paper. The Cambridge Turquoise had a full yapp.
