I used your method almost 2 years ago with my little boy when he was 4 months old and it worked sooo well with him! He was stubborn but I stuck it out and it was the best decision of my life. Now I share your video with anyone who asks how to get their child to sleep through the night. ❤️

So pretty much in short, feed them, put them in their bed, let them cry for a bit, come back in and shush them, leave again, keep doing this until they sleep

I did this, but never looked at it as sleep training. Just knew they needed their sleep, and so did I. I love that you, and others have a name for this.

Hi Elle, I have been following you for a year now and I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU under this video that I watched when my firstborn arrived in March 2018. Your advice worked like magic! He is almost 3 months old now and has been sleeping a solid 10 to 11 hours every night for the past 2 months. He is a happy and content baby 😊 Thank you so much again for sharing your life with us. You are an inspiration. Love from France

Elle Lindquist My LO (6 months) goes down with easy most of the time but night waking is now a habit (sometimes 4xs a night). I use nursing back to sleep as a crutch because, well, it's quick and easy, and at first I thought she was hungry (clearly no longer the issue). Also, sometimes she will just roll around at night playing or trying to get comfortable this can last from 1-2 hrs!!!! This child just does not want to sleep. Any suggestions or does your ebook discuss issues like this? PLEASE help. Xoxo - Exhausted, desperate, first time mom

Thanks Elle! Your video convinced my wife to tough it out and give our 9 month old a try. Only took less than 30 min. I was in the room doing my thing. Wife was downstairs. This beats holding the baby for 2 hours until my wife's arms and back break + sleep deprivation.

I just tried my first time sleep training my 8 month old baby tonight using this videos tips. It took exactly 18 min with a pick up to comfort in between and it's only going to get better. For those saying you shouldn't let your baby cry, it's only for a few minutes at a time for 5 days probably less. You should know if your baby really needs attending to. I suppose it's really just routine. Best video ever! Definately sharing this to family and friends.

Hi, I'm a mom to 3 now young adults (born in 1995, 1996 and 2001). What you say in your video is exactly what I did and I feel completely in line with you. Children of any age need to know "who is the boss" - not meaning dominating them, but LEADING them. And this is even true with my 2 girls, aged 22 and 20 today: they're not yet economically autonomous so their parents still have their say about some topics in their lives. Also, our youngsters RESPECT me because they feel that I'm able to stand up for my own needs, too. And they are able to RESPECT THEMSELVES. Well done, keep on track!

I implemented this right from the get go when my baby was 4 days. The 5 hour sleep stretch is the key in those early days. It totally worked!
Now my baby is almost 5 months and whenever there is a sleep regression due to teething, travelting etc i redo the sleep training steos and everything falls back in place.
    Thank you Elle!!

Best video ever! Our son started sleep regressions around 4 months after sleeping the through the night with no problems. We suffered through 6 weeks of sleeping a couple of hours a night and we were both at our wit's end. We research about dozen videos and liked this one the most. 9 MINUTES!!! IT TOOK 9 MINUTES OF LETTING HIM CRY AND HE SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT!!! That was March 2017 and I can count on one hand the number of nights we've had to get up with him since then! Thank you so much, Elle!

Thank you so much for this video Elle. Tried this on my 8months old baby who wakes up 4-6times to breastfeed overnight and wakes up at every slightest noise.Well, all that is in the past now😄 I am super excited to say he now sleeps for straight 10-12hrs without waking up for feeds from the 2nd day. He cried so much on the first day though but just a little on the 2nd day. It took him just 2days to get used to it. God bless you for sharing this with us😘😘

It’s worked!!!!!!! My 10 month old daughter who was breastfed would wake up 5-6 times a night just to nurse for like a minute and then I would have to carefully lay her back. First day, (her 2nd nap in the afternoon) she cried for about 30-45 minute off and on. She fell asleep and it lasted for 10 minutes. When it was time for bed, she cried 3 minutes!!! My husband and I couldn’t believe it! She woke once that night at 1am and cried for about 2 minutes and then it stopped..I went in and checked and she had put herself back to sleep and didn’t wake up until 8:30 when I went in and woke her up. All naps on the second day she cried a MAX of 3-5 minutes. 2nd night she slept all night long! I am amazed! Thank you for making this video!

Thank you thank you thank you for this video! My daughter was sleep trained from the very beginning and then teething started around 6 1/2 months. She would only fall asleep with me in the bed. We resorted to letting her sleep in our bed because we couldn't fight the fight anymore. Bad idea! She's now 8.5 months and fully trained in 3 days! She doesn't even wake up at 3am for her night feed! We have our bed back and couldn't be happier. Sharing this video with all my co-sleeping mommy friends!

This is totally on point! My son Kieran is 8 weeks old and we have him napping and going to bed for the night at the same time as his older sisters who are 2.5 and 1.5. He still wakes a few times at night but goes right back to sleep after feeding. Sleep training has been a life saver for us... There is no way I would survive having 3 kids without everyone getting sleep. Love your channel and your family! :-)

Hi Elle. I have doing this training to my 5 month baby, and she has made tremendous progress, being able to sleep all by herself. The only thing to notice is that she still wakes up once every night, around 1am, and cries a lot for at least 20-40 mins. I suspect it is hunger, bit I dont know if it is counterproductive to feed her in the middle of the night. I appreciate your comments! Thanks

I originally sleep trained my baby and he was sleeping by 9 weeks old but then he started teething a few weeks later and he stopped sleeping through the night and I've been rocking him to sleep since... he's 10 months old... This just encouraged me and I'm going to sleep train him again! Thanks a bunch!

This video was a life saver for my first!! She slept 12 hours a night from 3 months on. Now my second is 6 months and sleeping terribly... realizing that I needed to revisit this, because I'm doing so much wrong lol. I did newborn part with not letting her nap more than 3 hours in the day and she did sleep better then. But now I nurse her and pick her up through out the night. The last few nights regressed even worse and she woke up at 12pm last night and every other hour after... I'm over it! Can't wait to get her back on track!

Thank you! My 7.5 month old cannot sleep without me holding her and I'm SO over having her sleep in my bed. I'll try this this week! They only obstacles are that we all share a room, so letting her cry it out might wake up my toddler. We'll see how it goes!

I think it's great that you are encouraging parents to teach their children good sleep habits through your methods!😊 It's beneficial not only for the parent but also for the child.
With my first, I read The Baby Whisperer, and she is a wonderful sleeper to this day. She falls asleep within a few minutes of laying down and sleeps soundly and peacefully through the night. She is 8 years old now and wakes up with a positive attitude every morning, and I don't have to make her wake up as she willingly gets up.
Now, having more experience and knowledge from teaching my first child, my one month old lays down quietly and quickly falls asleep for each nap and at night for his bedtime.
He also only wakes up once through the night if I haven't tanked him up enough throughout the day or he is going through a growth spurt. His 1st cluster feed is at 8 pm then his last one is at 10 or 11, depending on how long I want to stay up or spend time with my partner that evening. Then, he sleeps until 7 am. Unless, like I said, he needs that one more feed because of a growth spurt.
I love it because it will quickly and increasingly get better. At three months, last feed is at 7 and bedtime 7:30 with still one dream feed and wake up at 7.
Then, at 7 months, bedtime is 7:30 with no dream feed and wake up is 7.
I love this program and so do my kids!!!! Yay for us understanding the importance of quality sleep and teaching our kids, lol!😊

You have some really good advice and some not so good. The science behind baby cry is proven and it can actually change their nerve system, the way they bond with people later in life, their trust (or lack of it) to people, etc. I have 3mo old and I've never let him "cry out". Babies don't cry for no reason. They're helpless and they need you. Yes, there are times when moms feel frustrated, but noone said it was going to be easy (at least not anyone who had a child). A baby is a little person, an individual, who a mother needs to get to know and need to learn their signs and it takes time and A LOT of effort. Good luck to everyone who have troubles teaching their baby to sleep. Having a video nanny system may help you a lot to see how your baby sleeps and react accordingly.

I love this video. my son is 19 months old and I'll be weaning him from the breast in the next few days, he falls asleep while breastfeeding, and I've been looking for a sleep training method that it's not the cry it out method. he is a great sleeper and on most night he will sleep through the night, sometimes he wakes up because he learned a new word(s) and wants to talk or something but he is mostly a great sleeper, let's hope this helps with the falling asleep part

Isn't 20 min of crying little bit too much for a baby? Sounds little too harsh .Have they done any studies that shows if it doesn't have any psychological impact on the child for the future development ( if it makes sense )? Thx

Some thoughts.. 1)Regarding "babies have one 5 hour sleep stretch from birth", my son's was pretty close! He would sleep one 4-hour chunk at night and one 4-hour chunk during the day. Other than that it was always just 40 minutes to an hour & a 1/2 all throughout the day and night. But we breastfeed so that may have something to do with his waking. 2) once he hit about 3 months old, he started screaming bloody murder every night at 7 p.m., for the simple reason that he was tired and did not understand 'if I just close my eyes and relax, sleep will come'.
He's 1 year now, and still nurses "part-time" and wakes 2 or 3 times during the night only very quickly ("business" like you said) and right back to sleep. Until he's done nursing I don't really want him to sleep through the night because then I have to get up and be bothered with pumping so that I don't go too long without nursing and affect my supply. I often wonder - once he weans, if he'll have a problem sleeping through the night. Only time will tell! Maybe I'll come back and let you know :)

GOD bless you mightily for sharing the great encouragement, wisdom, insights, your experience in what has worked for you and what hasn't worked in sleep training your precious little one(s). We are first time parents with a 6 weeks and 5 days old -beautiful boy at the time of posting this, early in the morning of 01/25/17.
Thanks so much!! My wife and I just decided to buckle down and dive in to start implementing the "business only" care within an hour of watching your video, and we're believers! It works!! I timed that screaming cry and soothed him for about 5 minutes after he went for about 8 or so almost at the top of his lungs, which was tough to listen to, but kept the interaction and 5 minute soothing I mentioned "business only" as you encouraged. With only one false start he self -soothed on the second attempt! Praise GOD! We've also been working to establish the feeding schedule as taught by Babywise, and we're now so encouraged by the hybrid approach we'll end up having; using some of Babywise's and your insights ...
We're certainly not naive that baby will challenge the new regimen, however we'll keep chugging up the mountain!! So grateful and blessed.
What a beautiful and precious family you have by the way! You're blessed and highly favored! [Pardon my excitement! I see and envision incredible, energy- filled, revived and refreshed days ahead! 😄😅😀 Return of some sanity and normalcy!! 🎉🎊🏇 Wohooooo!! Praise JESUS!! This was divinely orchestrated that we watch and land on your videos and your channel today, and we subscribed!👍👊🙌] Have blessed remainder to your week with the family. Thank you!! Don't stop encouraging and uplifting others!! Don't mind or give a thought to the naysayers! GOD will greatly increase this and HE's super proud and pleased by your precious and beautiful heart! > 1 Corinthians 15:57-58, Judges 6:2-16

I tried to figure out how to PM you but idk what I'm doing so here goes. My son is 10 months. He is such a good baby and rarely ever cries. I'm exclusively nursing and we cosleep. I'm a single mom and widow since he was 4 months and I really want to "sleep train" him so he can sleep better. The problem is, he never sleeps. He actually saw a sleep specialist because he didn't take naps all day and wakes up every hour at night and it's been like that since he was about 3 months old which once he was about 4 months we started cosleeping because me getting up every half hour when he woke up was too much I guess. I regret it now. He's better with naps during the day now. He takes two sometimes. Usually 9:30 and between 1-3 pm. He cries sooooo much when I try to put him in his crib at night and I only last about 3 minutes because he gets all sweaty and hyperventilates. And ends up getting in the bed with me. Will this method still work or should I tweak it a bit? I need sleep and so does the baby but I don't want him sweating and throwing up on himself. Thank you in advance. No negative comments please. I'm a young single widow and I don't have family closer than 2k miles so I'm trying my best. Thanks

Kassandra Lee I am in in a similar situation. Do you think it is because you cry in front of him or get upset? I wonder as this is what I sometimes do. My son is 1 yo, bad sleeper, waking up all night, crying and tossing. My mum say I should not leave to sleep, so this is part of the problem. I am so confused. I have no idea to fix this. You leave him, he will cry and not stop! I cannot wait 15 mins, ti is cruel.

I put commitment and I definitely start to sleep training my 1month old baby boy after seeing this video.
At 2 weeks old I also went to see a doctor and check if he feel sick or something might gone wrong with him, but the doc just said: i need to teach him to soothe himself and he is completely healthy and a very strong baby. But as he is my first son, I couldn't do it (only first night only) and after a while now he become more and more unstoppable, Every night at the same time around 10:30-11pm, he starts crying and nothing I do or anyone do Would soothe him, no matter what I do. I try to sing him a song, feed him (though he is still hungry, but he is not), check his diaper, or maybe the room temperature is too hot or too cold, put him down or even if I hold him he is still crying. I have no idea what he want.
Here I come to the point that no one can sleep at night. When the night come, I feel worried and always pray for him to give me a good night sleep for once. The least we could sleep at night is 30min and max 3h (10-15min here and there, total 3h. There's time I alway faint during the day because the lack of sleep and rest).
The problem is not only about my sleep, I love my son, really, but when I look at him, I feel that he is tired too, he couldn't sleep, his brain keep functioning, at this stage he is suppose to sleep, feel happy and have a good rest. It's not good for him to stay awake and sleep 10-15min and wake up and sleep again, it's just a mess. So I make up my mind again after watching this video, I have to sleep train him immediately.
It's for both of us. For him to get a good sleep at night and for me to have time to rest after a whole day with housework + with him.
Today is the second night, my mom is a bit mad at me after I left him cry it out. But what can I do, I have to watch him all day, do all works, my husband often traveling away for his office works, rarely at home. There was a time when I feel so sad seeing my own son and got scared of him because I am so new at this and I have no idea what to do. :/
I pray for this to work. I know all babies are different but I really want my baby to have a good night sleep liked others and even he does not sleep much at daytime, it's okay for me too. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Hi there, I just wanted to thank you for your video and advice. I think I watched it about 50 times and from all my research on sleep training your "method" is the simplest and most effective (I've tried the chair one but it didnt really work for us). I've started sleep training my 8mo old boy and I started by making small changes in the bedtime routine (Ive noticed that if I fed him dinner too late he wouldnt settle to sleep very well) anyway DAY ONE put him down at 7pm as usual and he slept through after a total of 25 min crying (10 min- 15min). I did the "business check", calmed him down (in my case I picked him up but put him back in the crib once he calmed down - but completely awake) :) repeated my key words and left the room. I did this in two intervals and mentioned before. Then I went to bed and when I woke up I realised he had slept through. He woke up early but I am counting as victory because he didnt wake up three or four times (or 1 time for 3 hours) as he used to. DAY TWO - nap 1 and he cried for 10 min. T E N M I N U T E S !! I know it might be "beginners luck" but I will stick to the schedule I set for us and I will come back in a week to let you know. So far things are working, I'm amazed how afraid I was for no reason, he cried a lot less than I expected. Now I am expecting things to get more difficult but consistency is key. Thank you I, like you also choose sleep! I am a better mum when I am rested. xxx to you and Forde!

Hi everyone, maybe somebody can help me.. My baby just turned 7 months, he is bottle fed since 4 months and eats solid foods twice a day. So recently he's been really good at naps, I do eat-play-sleep-play, he always falls asleep on his own. At nighttime as well. But when he wakes up he doesn't fall back to sleep. I don't understand why he's not settling himself again when he wakes up during the night, because he CAN fall asleep on his own. Every sleep training says like "your baby has to learn to fall asleep on his own, then he'll sleep through the night"...am I the only one?? He wakes every 3h but he's not hungry. I'm not expecting him to sleep 12h but at least 6..

just found this video today by accident but I feel it's God leading me to teach my little man to sleep through the night lol I jest but in all seriousness it's time and this is one of the best videos I've come across and starting today we are trying it. I have to say I'm shocked by some of the negative comments - everyone is entitled to their opinion but to "lose respect for" etc because someone wants to train THEIR child differently from how you train yours wow just WOW! I 100% know this will work for my child (and all children really) because I believe children thrive in discipline and schedule so here is to a perhaps tough week and full night sleeps from next week. thanks for the video you dedicated have a new subbie in me

We are working on this same exact thing. However we are trying to skip the evening nap... maybe we should try to skip the morning nap instead.. then do his two hour long nap.. then he'll do his normal 8:30 to bed... would you suggest skip morning or evening nap. I think he is ready to just skip it. Last night he did just fine without an evening nap but then woke up wide awake at 3 am. He's now 9 months. We kept him in our room until 7months and after his open heart surgery. Otherwise we would have started this way sooner!

My baby had more than one 5 hour stretch of sleep until she was like 4 months. She still slept through the night ( from 1 month ) 12 hours. I never woke her up during the day. To me a baby's sleep shouldn't be disturbed on purpose.
And needing you for confort is still a need. I peacefully teach my babies to sleep but never let them cry it out.
This is just for all the other out there that want to do it peacefully but still want to sleep. It is possible, but it takes longer than a week, and there will be regressions. But that's parenting...

I'd like a video that teaches us how to make baby sleep on his own from the first day coz u know if he fed he will sleep and maybe he will sleep in the bathtub so What's the key to let him up till u put him in his bed

I know obviously this is an old post but for anyone reading now...at around 5 weeks my newborn was giving us 6-7 hr stretches. When they wake up, obviously they’re super hungry so you feed them right off. I think the key to getting longer sleep stretches is to “top them off” with more milk right before going back down. I heard that just even an extra ounce can give you an extra hour or two of sleep. They only wake up because they’re hungry, so make sure they’re nice and full before bed! Good luck!

I literally started sleep training our son when he was about to be 9 months and now he's going to be 10 months in 5 days and he's been sleeping in his own crib in his own room and he's been doing great and I did the cry-it-out method obviously not to the point of torture however I can tell by his cries that it was just for my attention because he was so used to it. First three months of his birth we were co-sleeping because I was feeding on demand and it was just easier for me for being a first-time parents it help me sleep and then when I physically couldn't sleep like that anymore after the 3-month. I moved him to his crib and I was still waking up in the middle of the night nursing him but he wasn't waking up quite as often because he was finally sleeping in his own space. Then of course at almost 9 months we moved into his own room and as soon as that happened it was sleep training time and he's been sleeping through the night for quite some time however is just nice that my husband and I get to have us time without having to tiptoe in her own room. And everyone get a white noise machine for your child that is a lifesaver. Now we have a second baby on the way it is our baby girl and I'm watching this video because I want to start training her as soon as possible I feel that I'm more comfortable now to do so. Thank you for this video.

We have a six month old baby, that wakes up two to three times a night. We typically put her down at 7:30 pm and she will be awake by 1 am at which time we change the diaper and feed her and then she will wake up again around 4:30 am and we repeat our routine of changing the diaper and feeding. Should we simply let her “cry it out” when she wakes up at 1 and 4:30 am until she breaks the circle and sleep through the night? HELP we are two sleep deprived parents.

I did something like this and it worked. BUT! How do you get baby to stay asleep!? He will wake up and sometimes put himself back down, but we wake up anywhere from 2-4 times a night.

I wish there was a more in depth about getting him to sleep through the night and what you do when he wakes up in the middle of the night.

I really love your tips!!! I am struggling with my 15 months old boy. He’s got his crib in our room since day one. But he never felt comfortable in his crib, he slept in his swing, the rocking chair with me and then cosleeping with us. If we ever tried to “get him to his crib” I had to nurse him in the rocking chair to sleep and then I had to place him extra super carefully in the crib without waking up. But he woke up couples hours later and I had to do the same routine. Now I’m trying to get him to sleep in his crib but man......as soon as I say good night and leave the room he can cry it out for two hours! And still going idk what to do. I really really need help!

Hi Elle, I found your video really helpful and inspirational. My LO is almost 7mths old and I am currently on day2 of training him to fall asleep on his own...from newborn loved being rocked over so I was sure he would not do this however he has now put himself to sleep EVERY nap and nighttime and I am so proud as he is getting too heavy for me to rock over. He was up twice through the night the first night so hopefully that will improve over time. Many Thanks

Last night Alexander slept through the night for the first time ever! He stirred at 5.15 but put himself over again I never left my bed which is a first! I'm nervous but excited to see how he does tonight. Can I ask how long I would do this training in his own bed before it would be ok for him to nap elsewhere I spend quite a bit of time at my mums house but have stayed in our house so far to put him in his own bed each nap.x

Any tips on sleep training a stubborn 1 year old? She wakes once a night at around 2am. Goes to bed a 8.30 9 pm and wakes in the morning around 7.30am?

I'm curious what your take would be on my kid - he's 9.5 MO, has no trouble falling asleep on his own for two naps during the day, and he's fine with falling asleep on his own in the evening, but... he wakes up 2 times at night to eat, nothing else puts him back to sleep.

thanks for your video! hoping to use for my daughter. she is 8 months old and still wakes every 2-3 hrs for a feed. i know shes not really hungry, just wants to nurse to go back to sleep. the problem is, her crib is in my room, due to lack of space at the moment. so she can see me and smell me, or so i've been told. IM EXHAUSTED! can this sleep training work even with her crib in my room?? she is OKAY with nap time during the day, its just staying asleep through the night. we have a routine, and she goes to bed between 7-8. shes up by 1am and thats when the constant waking begins.
