Great job William! Could you ask the camera person to please zoom in on what you doing with your hands? Often the view is of you and the bike but we cannot see the parts or tools.

Great video, one stupid question, the system needs a full charge battery to work, what if the battery is empty?

Thanks Willian - another great how to video with lots of tips, tools and good ideas. For example I didn't know you could get progressive tap sets that would make the job so much easier.
I have installed this VAPE system on my 1963 R60/2 and I love almost everything about it - easy kick starting when cold, rock steady idle, great lights etc.
But here's a question for you or others who have installed the VAPE system on their R60-2 or similar as I have: when my R60/2 reaches normal running temperature it's difficult and often impossible to kick start. I usually have to push it to get it going - especially in summer.
I've done everything I can think of to resolve the issue including new zero ohm plug caps, new spark plugs (I use NGK B8HS with no resistor. I haven't tried Beru plugs), checked timing hasn't changed (it's still spot on) and checked air gap between trigger pickup and magnet is correct at 0.4mm. I even wondered if the coils were getting too hot, so I ran the bike without the front cover, but this did not solve the problem - after a long ride with the cover off, the coil was only warm to touch and the starting problem was evident. I haven't changed the HT leads to the spark plugs as those leads came with the VAPE system.
Can you others suggest anything else I could look at to resolve this very frustrating issue?
    Many thanks, Ian, Sydney Australia.

Hi Ian, I'm considering installing a Vape 12V system on a 1968 R60US. Were you able to solve your hot start issue? Cheers from Southern Ohio, USA.

I've had exactly the same hot staring and going issues as you. It is solely due to the regulator's location out of the airflow. William installs it directly above the engine where it doesn't benefit from the flow of air. I am in the process of doing a complete rewire of my R60. I am discarding the aluminium plate on which the CDI unit is mounted and am using just the bracket supplied and mounting it as far back in the triangle where he mounts it, then secure it with the usual wire ties. I'm mounting the rectifyer in front of it, in fact in front of the horn, using the larger mount that fits over the top tube.

Tip: Ideal location for VoltReg: where it can get good, frontal air flow (fins upward/vertical)... most common cause of failure of solid state voltage regulator/rectifier: overheating. (..as with the vast majority of Japanese and/or permanent magnet generators.)

Excellent system. Intalled it on both my r25/3 and r60/2. Made my own mounting plates holding both control unit and voltage regulator.

Hello There! Recently I bought a Vape charging system form you and installed in my 1953 R67/2 (Charging system only).
I installed everything very carefully as instructions shown.
Before I connected the battery I checked three times all connections, checked all ground points and also installed a fuse in + battery point and another fuse in main switch (lamp).
Right now I do not have any power in my bike so I checked again, all good. Today I watch again this video and realized you connected the original battery positive wire (30) to the battery (Both, original wire and Vape regulator positive battery)...
The instructions only show me to connect the positive wire from Vape regulator... (As I have right now). Do I must connect also the original positive battery wire (30) to the battery??? please help!!! thank youy very much!

William great video and so concise. I understand there are two Vape systems that can be ordered but can you point me in the correct direction as to which is relevant to my 1963 R69S. Many thanks, Sidney

I have a question for you and your experienced viewers. I have a 1984 US spec BMW R80RT, I already changed the indicator relay but every time it gets hot the indicators stay permanently on rather than flash. I’m fed up with this, to me indicating is an important aspect of safe riding and I don’t know what else to do to fix the problem. The relay I took off was the original one and had it replaced with a Bosch one. I thought the problem was fixed for about a week but it started again. I’m at a loss and there aren’t many mechanics that work on such old bikes around me these days. Any advice will be welcomed unless you suggest to change my bike 😂

When will you be uploading a video on the 70's airheads? Are these conversions now safe for Lithium batteries?

Hello William, thank you for your video., I have just completed the installation of a VAPE ignition system on my 1965 BMW R60/2 however I don’t have any spark. I’m using a 12 volt battery, new non register spark plugs and caps, any ideas of where and what I should check? Thank you, Mark (Sydney, Australia)

Check the pick up gap to the reluctor which mounted on the rotor. The gap should be 0.4mm

I’m getting constant kickback when I’m trying to get my BMW R60/2 started. Do you have a solution to this ? It’s only be happening since I installed the VAPE system.

Servois William. Ich habe eine Frage zu Typ 1-Gabeln an meiner R100RS (77). Sind die Gabelrohre so konstruiert, dass sie die angesammelte Luft entweichen lassen?
    Danke

You can get a fuel quick disconnect for $10. You never have to spill fuel from the cross over again.

William hi. I have set my Vape ignition timing up exactly as you and the instructions state but I am getting pre- ignition or pinking as we say here in the UK when under load i.e going up hills. I have retarded the ignition by moving the rotor by approx the diameter of the pickup to stop this which I do not believe can be the right thing.
Do you have any suggestions so I can get it back into the location it should be in.? WhenI strobe it now the OT is way off.
Many thanks for any help and suggestions
