You have just opened up my mind with this way of solving RC. I can not thank you more for this. All I was doing up till now was digging for some diamonds in a RC passage.
Great video. Really changed the way I'll start to practice my reading during RC and really appreciated the way Avi went through the whole reading strategy plus answering question. I had always been overwhelmed by the reading and the note taking, now I know I can do it a different way.
Thank you so much for this lesson! Many GMAT tutors have mentioned this approach to RC questions, but I only managed to apply it properly after listening and following your step by step explanation, really appreciate it :)
Thanks for the approach. I will attempt a few passages with this approach. But whenever I start reading 700-800 level passages, I take a lot of time to carefully read. As you rightly mentioned and I too have observed that one would usually get bogged down by unnecessary details. Hope this method will improve my performance. I will definitely report back in here soon.
@@avigutman1145 ya I could, and I found the technique beneficial in some passages ,especially the shorter one, but whenever there is a long, complex passage, I still struggle to apply this technique. Actually I kind of get worried whether I am missing on some important point. Moreover, in complex passages, identifying the details , while reading, is a challenge for me. How can I improve this problem of mine. Reading a long passage in 3 mins is a challenge.
Patro Adwitiya you’re still worried that skipping a detail will hurt you later. It won’t. The best way to improve is to go to the extreme: read only the first and last sentences of each paragraph on those long passages and then try the questions. Those that you get wrong: ask yourself whether it would have been any easier had you read all the details. Almost always reading the details would have made it even harder - and you’d be a lot more tempted by the trap answers.
@Avi Gutman I have applied this new method . In short passages I am able to accurately implement the method , but in case of long passages I am getting an accuracy of 70%. Is there a way to strengthen it further ?
The purpose of a chunk of detailed text can usually be inferred from the few words immediately before or immediately after it; not within it. All I care about is the purpose.
@@avigutman1145 For the question at 48:00, how would you know where to find the details for this, if you skipped most of the passage on your first read through?

This is, undoubtedly, the best video I have come across on UA-cam for RC. It cleared so many of my doubts.
