She grew up at my school💕 back in middle school we had a talent show once a year and she performed. Our principal said that she would become famous one day. She did.
My husband and I have seen her in concert 2x and she is just delightful and powerful. She just walks out on the stage whenever she plays, no big build up. Her style is "Hey, here I am, take me or leave me as you want, I'm okay with that." We were able to talk to her at each concert, and she signed my guitar and the CD I bought; just as sweet and natural as can be. I was mad she didn't win on "Idol", but, in a way, this was a blessing. She didn't have to play the Corporate Game, we fans are able to be much closer with her than other artists.
I like the symbolism of the mother's sweater unraveling and Crystal knitting her own with the yarn. The things that happened in our past are always part of us, but we can take them and make a better future. Plus I just love knitting lol

As a Toledoan and former Idol Contestant, I want to say how absolutely proud I am of Crystal. Idol is not an easy thing to go through, nor is growing up with a dream that very few actually obtain. She had the grit and courage to go all the way through with it. I am also proud of her as a human being because she is able to voice her emotions and tell a story through her music. Found Crystal doing a search for covers of Janis Joplin, and found her show in a local bar, with links to her Idol performances. So much soul and feeling for someone so young.

The first time I heard this, I was at a McDonald's Playplace with my little brothers, one of the countless times my mother would up and leave us for hours without us knowing when she would come back. I heard this song and thought how I hoped I would grow up and treat my future children better than she did us. I hope I can hold that promise with my future babies.
