Yes we have our life at risk every time on a horse (not even on a horse, sometimes around them) but as long as we enjoy it, most of the time we never think about the risks we take, we trust that our partner will protect us. The trust with horse and rider is amazing, we protect them and the horse protects us. We can understand the horse, what it feels, a lot of horses have anxiety so the rider takes time with the horse to build the horse up.
1200 punds of muscle, with a brain that thinks for itself. It's take co-operation, trust, & respect to make a loyal team. That can accomplish what they attemp It's 2 beings becoming 1.
Can we ditch the western/English differences? Remember no matter what you do we're all in it for the love of the game and the horses. As equestrians we should stick together and not against each other.
I have two quotes: "Equestrians, get on a 1,200 pound creature, that can kill us at will. We learn to trust, and create a powerful bond that can't be broken. That's what makes an equestrian, the ultimate athlete..." "Equestrians go through the tough times, and embrace them like soldiers. Humans who underestimate us, will likely shrivel and die if they tried to embrace what we go through..."
Great vid:) I've had 9 years riding experience english and western. I know everybody says western isn't in here and I wish it was too but I have to say english is a lot harder than western. Depends though, roping isn't easy. No kind of riding is "easy" and that's part of why I love it! I learn something new every time in the saddle
I ride both English and the occasion western, but I'm also a trotter,we all are out there to do the same thing have fun and enjoy what we love doing riding or driving our horses
I just love this video! I've been riding for 12-13 years and I'm still so rough around the edges I should be a before picture of a clay pot with out any refinery 😂 On the serious note, horses are very, "flighty". That why they're registered/put down as "flight" animals, due to how spooky they normally are.
IT IS A SPORT ! IT IS DANGEROUS AND NOT EASY ! FOR ALL THOSE WHO THINK IT IS EASY, GO AND RIDE A HORSE , DO JUMPING , DRESSAGE , FALL OFF AND THEN COME AND TELL US IF YOU STILL THINK THE S-A-M-E !
This I exactly what I mean when I have to explain to people that I risk my life almost everyday riding. A millisecond worth of mistake, can send us flying through the air at solid brick walls. Also, a second can decide if our careers are over. In wrestling, you make a mistake, or are too close to something, you can easily fix it by stepping back. Equestrians live in a whole nother world where that little mistake may not be abled to be fixed before you fall 7 feet going 40 miles per hour, with your back slammed on the ground. Riding is the only sport where that all happens to us, but we get up. Look the judges in the eye and say, "My fault" then get back on to try the course again.
No, not in English, but it's in a way I can't explain. We speak to our animals in trust, in loyalty, in companionship. It's not even that, I can't explain it. You probably don't understand since you made that comment. But even if you do talk to your animal in English, they may not understand the 'words' your saying, but by the tone of your voice they know what you mean. Every horse whisperer, dog whisperer, cat whisperer etc. speaks to animals in a different way.
Seriously I love English and western, But is it a problem that this person didn't put western? I personally don't care by a fact it's hers and not yours. You don't have a mind like hers. Please people stop hating on people that don't think like you. Period.
My best friend is a barrel racer, and I'm a Three Day Eventer. I believe that both are difficult in their own ways, and similar. Such as: Both need guts and determination, both have grace and beauty, and lastly, both love these amazing animals we call horses.
Why does it matter about the English/western thing? Truly, we are all in it for the sport, and which ever one you do you still build a great bond with that particular animal. This person may not be from the states and did not want to include western due to how much more uncommon it is for people out of the states to do western.
Honestly all I see in this video is English riding. What about western? I think that the fight between English and Western riding is like child's play. Why not quit the differences and work together :| I mean, it wouldn't hurt to stop the fight. But, even though there are many differences between the two riding styles, doesn't mean that we should fight. Because basically the way I see the fight is child's play :/ Also, I can Spurs in this video as well. Spurs are hurtful to horses. Some horse riders use them in the wrong way and some don't. But still I think that they should use them at all. And yes. Horse riding is ranked the most dangerous sport in the world, and it's not easy riding a living animal. But great video btw :D I really enjoyed it :)
I don't mean to be rude to English riders but I don't like how most( not all) are saying English is harder we move our bodies just as much, train just as much ,and talk just as much to our horses as English riders. Also if some offended English rider reads this please go look into drill treams that's western and you work with not only your horse but with several other riders and several other horses while most the time they carry flags as they do it. Also if you think it's not as hard as English look up some trick riding, sorry but there is no other equestrian sport as hard as trick riding. I just wish there was some more motivation vids with western riding.
nightcore_ neko THANK YOU!! In my opinion western riding is way more difficult, thank you so much for saying that! They need to understand that just because they ride English and they jump that it’s harder because their in the air
Aurora Brabham I’m mainly a western rider but I’ve done some English and you honestly can’t compare the 2 on which is harder because you ride a completely different way in each discipline.
my question is why is every one saying western is easy its not personally i ride western and neck reining around a barrel at a gallop is not easy just saying im sure some English riders gunna hate on me but i really dont care
I was raised on both disciplines, but I prefer English because I love the grace and beauty of the sport. However, the sheer guts and determination that goes into western sports is insane. I have the utmost respect for both disciplines and enjoy watching both.
bailey ferguson I agree. I ride western and I’m afraid to have all four hooves off the ground at once which is why I chose to stick with western. It’s hard but also can be fun. At my riding lessons I usually go over poles. I love the feeling of doing small bounces over the poles. Riding with a western saddle also has its advantages like when you are told to drop your stirrups and you feel yourself sliding off you can catch yourself and become in the right position again.
Personally, I prefer English riding, due to doing hunter jumping, but I have done some rodeos, and I agree with the western riders that it is hard, but that doesn't give people a right to hate because their disipline isn't included. Wrastern riding is purley United States, it is part of our culture over here. She might be from a different countryn, where they don't do western riding. Or it may be the fact that if you ride, unless you ride in the USA, you will either do English or endurance riding. Therefore there are most likely more clips for English riding. If your discipline isn't included, it doesn't give you the right to hate on her because of it.
I agree I ride western and we get no credit for being equestrians and it kills me to see videos like this that are all english don't get me wrong I belive english and western are both hard but can you at least show some clips of the other side
They show more western clips in equestrian videos than they do hunter, vaulting, endurance, driving, and horsemanship. (My apologies if I have missed any other equestrians they don't show)
I ride both styles,I started riding English at the age of five but last year at the age of 13 I started barrell racing and also minni trots so I'm an arounder when it comes to equestrian
When it said we can't talk to our teamate I talk to my horse whenever i ride him so he can feel the trust n my voice. I trust my horse so I talk to him and tell him that so it reassures him that everything's ok. Most of the video was true though!🐎
Can you get your skull crushed by an animal, bucked off or kicked in the face by a 1000 pound animal, who you can just barely communicate with? Let those scientist try riding. Let the gymnasts try riding. My sister was a gymnast, and she would agree that riding is harder.
+wolfdragon productions™ OK, first of all I know horse riding is more dangerous than gymnastics (its probably the most dangerous sport out of them all) so there is no point in you listing all the injuries you can get in horse riding, second of all gymnastics is extremely dangerous too, have you ever called from a back flip right onto ur neck on a hard 4 inch beam, have you ever fallen face first from 7 ft in the air (sometimes higher) and let's not even start on the pain that comes from ripping our hands up and having to work through the blood when doing bars, not to mention that gymnasts do conditioning (don't start on the whole "we lift hay stacks and that's like conditioning" bullshit cuz its not even remotely close to conditioning) and conditioning is a whole new level of pain itself, and we don't just do 5 chin ups then done, we do conditioning EVERY DAY FOR 30 MINS TO 2 HOURS and it's intense, there has been research done than gymnasts do more conditioning then any other sport that is not based on strength eg. body building, I have seen girls throw up and cry more than once a week because of conditioning alone. and you can't argue that. your sister may have found gymnastics easier than horse riding, but that's most likely because she is on a low level, obviously if you compare a level 1 gymnast to an experienced equestrian its gonna be easier. I do agree that horse riding is extremely hard, I have done it myself and I have 2 friends who have been doing it for 8 years (and they too share my views on this topic) but comparing and saying that horse riding is harder than gymnastics is just ridiculous. and one last thing it also has been researched that gymnastics is in the top 3 for longest training, passing equestrianism by a good few places (8 I think) and by training I don't mean how long u spend at your gym/club/stable I mean actual training. please take some time to watch these montages on UA-cam called: gymnastics glory and gore, young amazing GB gymnast, elite gymnastics training dedication. once you have watched them ALL (they are quiet short and entertaining so don't worry about getting bored) you can come back and argue with me, sure they won't make you feel how hard it is or the mental and physical pain involved but it will help you see behind the pretty leotards, and I have already watched loads of horse riding montages so yeah.
niathekat luv just saying all that may be true but I do recall people getting killed a lot more being an Equestrian than being gymnast. A horse is a living creature with its own mine and is the second fastest land animal on earth, they are flight animals which mean that they get scared easterly then instead of fighting back they go charging of at a gallop throwing in bucks Bronks and reared. And that stuff about science is a load of rubbish as well. And equestrian fall from higher heights loads of times, and many times people have been crushed by there horses. I'm sorry but you are just stupid saying that gymnastics are more dangerous than horse riding. I have done gymnastics and I have never been heart. Sometimes horses pull on the rains so hard that if there riders rant wearing gloves there hands bleed. But equestrian are so much tuffer than gymnastic people as even if they have horrendous life threatening falls they get back on there horse. Gymnastics are people who are strong in the upper body and flexible but equestrians have muscle on every limb, there chests, there stomachs, there backs ect, don't say that gymnastics are more dangerous than horse riding because it isnt
They are the last thing from tuff and all that stuff you have said about science is a load of rubbish as well equestrians work a whole lot harder then you gymnasts do 😡
+breyerlover 152 Don't say that. Of course gymnastics is a sport. It's mentally and physically challenging. Just because a gymnast doesn't put their life on the line doesn't mean that their sport isn't true. I'm an equestrian and I love riding, but I would never bash someone for their sport. Each sport has its own challenges, but risking your life is just another perk of being an equestrian.
OMG PEOPLE STOP SAYING IT'S A SPORT!!! IT'S NOT A SPORT!!! It's a lifestyle It's a passion It's love It's different than a sport. It's harder than a sport. It's not a sport.
Yep your life is always on the line because you use wild stallions and they're not used to you at all. Horse is the real athlete... without the horse you couldn't do any of the course...
Drew M shame on you, our lives are always on the line because if we send a signal and the horse misreads it, the hospital might need to get involved. And, the horse doesn’t do all the work. Without us humans, how would it know how to do a dressage course? Or barrel race? We need to be there and the horse does to. So it’s not just the horse. Again, SHAME ON YOU.
But u can’t play football without the football, u couldn’t do gymnastics without the equipment, u couldn’t play baseball without the ball and bat, u couldn’t play soccer without the ball and goal, u couldn’t play volleyball without the net or ball. And horses are not wild beasts u know they are smart, majestic, and gentle and not all horses are stallions and even then stallions aren’t wild beasts either. And u know it’s exercise for both the rider and the horse right? And the horses are used to us bc most horses have been around humans their whole life. And our life’s are always on the Bc horses are very spooky therefore kinda unpredictable, and they have a mind of their own so maybe think before u comment next time 🙄
Personally, I prefer English riding, due to doing hunter jumping, but I have done some rodeos, and I agree with the western riders that it is hard, but that doesn't give people a right to hate because their disipline isn't included. Western riding isn't solely in the us anymore, it hasn't been for a while now! Some of the best western riders are european, for example italian or german:) It is still less known than the english riding of course, but we're catching up ;) But of course it's no reason to be rude, just because your discipline isn't involved.
Thank you for sharing it! I was just say that western riding is mostly in the USA, as it is more in our culture due to pioneers, so the video maker may have made this, and not know or though about adding western riding.
True words! Thanks for your support!

great video and so true we don't give the well deserved respect we need
Part of this video is wrong. We CAN talk to our horses. And we have a very thick line of trust in ourselves and our horses.

Western riding isn't solely in the us anymore, it hasn't been for a while now!
Some of the best western riders are european, for example italian or german:)
It is still less known than the english riding of course, but we're catching up ;)
But of course it's no reason to be rude, just because your discipline isn't involved.
Thank you for sharing it! I was just say that western riding is mostly in the USA, as it is more in our culture due to pioneers, so the video maker may have made this, and not know or though about adding western riding.
