Beautifully said! Katie has been such a gift to me. I didn't dance for many years but during the lockdowns I discovered this channel. I've been taking it very slowly, doing only the beginner barre classes, but my strength and flexibility are coming back and I'm having sooooo much fun doing it! I'm actually having so much fun I have to force myself to only dance 3 (or 4 :)) times a week while I'm building strength back so I don't injure myself. I just want to dance every day! This channel is absolutely amazing. Katie is stunningly beautiful to watch and a great teacher.

Couldn't have said it better. I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism at 14, which lead to a spell of eating disorders until my early 20s. Last year I finally left my ballet company, EXHAUSTED from trying to please everyone who disagreed with my body or disapproved. I too dance on my own terms now, and it's thanks to doing your classes everyday, I've been re-inspired.

Dear Kathie, this one moved me to tears...I can relate to the journey you are going so much. I have an unconventional path as a professional dancer and in my whole life never felt 'enough'. Till I've just before giving up in 2020 found a technique I finally feel as my own and started to just do it for myself again. I have still occasional hard days of frustration, but it's much better. Thank you for being such an inspiration.

YES!! Dance has always been a part of me, and I am so thankful that I have to come a place where I dance for the connection to my body, to God, to others, to my environment, and to me. Dance allows me to strengthen me and improve me. It motivates me to push myself and not give up. It shows me when I work hard and not give up I will see results. It encourages me to take care of myself so I can continue to do what I love. Dance allows me to tell my story and see myself as who I am and accept myself for who I am.
It used to not be about that. It used to be about proving my worth. I used to get so frustrated when I was young because I was never as good as someone else. But now as an adult I see that dance isn’t about being better but embracing who you are and owning it. Now I see what a gift it is and it’s so special to me. I am thankful to God every day that I get to dance and he’s given me a gift and an outlet to make connections. I’m so thankful for dance in my life.

@@TheForestBeganToSing333 just take it one day at a time. It’s taken me about 6 months to get my flexibility to a good spot and I suspect 6 months more to get it back 100% to where it used to be. It takes time unfortunately, but keep at it. I have loved doing kitchen ballet and getting my technique stronger than it was when I was dancing full time. Just start small ❤️ you got this!

When I started ballet I was really good at it, I did rhythmic gymnastics before that, I was naturally flexible, my feet were arched and the teacher was ecstatic when she saw me, she told me I will go very far. I did two years and I absolutely hated it, I was miserable every time I had to go, which was very confusing for little me because I loved training at home and I loved watching ballet on the tv. I stopped when I was 12 and I was so relieved!
During quarantine I was going through a difficult phase, so I decided to find fun home workouts to help me both physically and mentally and I stumbled upon Kathryn's beginners classes. The first class felt like I never stopped ballet, it was like finding gold! I found out I never hated ballet, I hated what others were expecting of me when I was dancing. I wanted to do it for me and with my terms, I didn't want it to turn into labour. So I never struggle with find motivation to dance, I can't wait to dance.

You are such a beautiful dancer... I dance for a recreational and I'm 54 years old this year I started when I was 49 and I love this art it's helped me lose weight and be graceful and like you said about being finding something that you love That's exactly what I did I found something I love and the weight fell off... I love watching your programs that you do and motivation that you give each and every student and I love that you take the time to share all your knowledge and your happy times and struggles with us as dancers... Keep on dancing and we'll keep on watching.. if you ever come to Missouri I'll show you my studio I made.. I'm teaching seniors how to dance and move and get their balance back and get fit... They love it and they're so excited to learn... Happy dancing 😘🥰😘🤩💖🩰🩰🩰

This is so true! While watching your video, I was thinking about why I stopped my balletclasses as a 13 yr old. Because I felt let down by my teacher after I failed to be accepted at a school for performing arts. I have always continued to dance (in different styles but my heart was for ballet). At 40 I returned to the barre and it felt like home. During lockdown I started training online almost every day. I know this is what keeps me sane and motivated. Having fun is what is most important to me :)

I have this video under my favorites and come back to it time after time. It’s so good to hear these words from you Katie.
I’m just a recreational dancer, I’m too old for a professional career or any ambitious, and not flexible enough and my turnout sucks and my hyper motivated ballet teacher gives me so many corrections all the time - and even though I know that I should actually appreciate this, it sometimes also demotivates me… and then I doubt myself. But the truth is I COULDN’T do without dancing. It’s okay to not be perfect. It’s about the process. And every day is a new journey. ❤🩰

you're so right about self-motivation. i'm not a dancer, but i know from my own experiences that when your motivation is external, when you're trying to please or impress others or whatever, that's the easiest way to burn out. you need to be driven by yourself and by what you love - it's easier said than done, but it's so so important

It is for the column, to find strength, to meet people like all of you, the bar is like a terrible father, I think the time of the stage is very narrow, but throughout life this discipline is philosophia as the Soto Zen. The wood of the bar, the kyosaku, the Master, the Zazen, the body, the martial art to tame oneself.
The teaching afterwards, as you do it, is always, as we say in Soto Zen, i shin den shin; from my heart to your heart. Ischryo; emptiness, horizontal gaze, nose and body vertical.
This is all and see what miracles a small piece of wood horizon tal and a hand placed on it, in moral support, can do.
    Every day!

How do you stay sharp? Do you have a coach or someone correcting you?

I’ve been having a tough time recently because my mom doesn’t understand that I want to dance professionally as a career and she doesn’t realize how much it means to me to dance. She wants me to go to college and start a family like everyone else but I want to audition for companies and get picked up instead of sitting in college. Please leave your opinion as a response.... what should I do, tell my mom what I want to do or continue to just walk away when she speaks to me about it? I have cried so much over this decision I literally have no tears left to give on this one.

i’ve been finding it hard to stay motivated because my entire life i’ve always had bowed legs that can’t straighten fully so they look bent on pointe… and i’ve started doing online school and put all my energy into training to become a professional which idek if it’s possible because i don’t have straight/hyperextended legs and that’s what companies r looking for. is this true, because i can’t change my bone structure in my legs and i just rly don’t know what to do… ballet is all i do and is my passion and i rly want to do this and be the best i can

I dance so that my enemies can witness their own downfall. JK I was quoting a movie 😆

I just can’t get my mind around how Vaganova academy lets some of the most amazing dancers go! I just think that no one escapes rejection even if you are literal perfection!😳
