I believe that I speak for a large percentage of your followers in saying that I discovered your channel because of dance, but kept following because of your genuine personality and presence. Listening to you is like spending time with a friend, and your videos have brought light during some dark times in my life.
You’re in no way obligated to apologize for not ‘being KM’ lately.. We all go through seasons of life, and no-one can always be in a position to give and share. Always take care of yourself first, and do what you need to do.
Your OG followers will stick around, no matter what 💗💕💖

Fully agree. Also if we were hanging out waiting for you to speak on your life, we would be missing out on our own lives. We love hearing from you, but not at the sacrifice of you living your life! And, girl, LIVE! There is so much more out there for you. So happy to hear you are allowing the winds of change to blow you into new pastures and that you are welcoming a new season. You are meant for greatness always. Being a performing ballerina is just one of the expressions of greatness meant for you, so enjoy your journey. We all adore you!

You can’t fill the cup of someone else if your cup is empty. You need to do what makes you happy, and if that is not performing that is brave for you to admit and it is ok.
We will miss watching you perform (and will miss the performance vlogs), but I think most of your audience will love to watch whatever it is that you give us. We just want you to be happy and healthy.

Your barres were real lifesavers during the pandemic... and the most amazing thing about them, when there was an abundance of barres to choose from, was the feeling that you were doing the barre with us, and struggling with exactly the same things...Change in the ballet world is slowly happening... and it is because of people like you, that care more about the person than the tendu ❤❤❤

So true! As an adult former student, doing your barres several times a week really was inspiring and I improved so much. I am still doing them. I saw you years ago as Sleeping Beauty at NYCB, and I would so love to have seen your Giselle. All the best to you as you continue inspiring us.

You don't owe anyone anything, especially on the internet. You care so deeply and I appreciate all you have done for ballet. I am someone who as an adult has a great relationship with ballet but would never have "made it" professionally. Your channel and your story is such a source of joy for me. I have loved following you in your career and will still be here for what comes next. Thank you, Katie!

Kathryn I have followed you since you were a member of NYC Ballet and your rise to Soloist. My heart goes out to you and dancers in general when they come to the decision that to continue to perform takes so much maintenance it no longer gives them the joy they had before. You have been through so much with that darn Hashimoto thyroid disorder and coming back as you have to dance again. I enjoy your channel, you are an admirable person and I am not going anywhere. God Bless you and Chris 🙏🏻 Sending love ♥️ from NYC 🗽

This honesty is so refreshing. As a teacher and dancer I feel this SO DEEPLY! In a few short months I will be turning 44 and I wish I could say it gets easier but it doesn’t. Also totally agree that each generation of dancers should be improving BUT sometimes the obsession with athleticism is at the expense of artistry. You are wise beyond your years to make the transition with grace and not drag yourself mentally and physically through the mud. You are lovely and the epitome of grace and authenticity. Your pup is adorable.

This is what I have been waiting for. THIS is why I subscribed to you Katie in the first place. A dancer who wasn't afraid to open up about the highs and lows of the ballet industry. And yes, all dancers eventually have to say goodbye to their time onstage because their bodies are literally telling them "I can't do this anymore, it's darn hard". And as hard as it is for me to admit (and this is coming from someone who hasnt danced a step in their life) the ballet world is effing stubborn to diversify to allow every person the opportunity to dance. I can't wait to see what life brings you next including being a furry momma (welcome to the channel Fin!) as well as eventually becoming a human momma. If you decide to film it, I 100% will watch your Carabosse portrayal, heck I'll even watch you as a Party Parent in Nutcracker, because you deserve to be onstage still, even if it doesn't involve Pointe shoes ❤

At the end of the day, what really stays with us are the lives we had a positive influence on. You can help with your mentoring, training and experience so many young dancers to develop, fulfill their dreams and move ballet forward. Without people like you dancers today would not be better than the dancers decades ago. I admire that. I wish that I had had a mentor like that 35 years ago. The ballet teachers that I did have are still with me in my thoughts and habits and work ethic today, when being able to get up in the morning can be a drag. And my love for ballet has never stopped. I stopped dancing when I was 20, studied, married and had children. During that time, I mostly ignored my body and cut myself off from ballet. However, during COVID, I came across your website and started training again - not to perform, but to feel at home in my body again and get back in shape. It has been wonderful for my body and mental health. So, I just want to encourage you that you can’t go wrong taking the direction that you are planning. You have the gift and opportunity to move this art and the people who want to pursue it forward, which is a real privilege that few people have or take advantage of.

As a former dancer who never measured up, what's so refreshing about you is--you're in a class of your own. As much as we want to say, don't think of it as a competition; just strive to be your best--the reality is that for jobs, we are always competing. But you have forged such a unique path through a lot of adversity. You are and will continue to be a wonderful mentor, and as much as the ballet world at that top tier feels like it has not changed, it does change incrementally thanks to dancers and educators like you.

I am 24 and I was just accepted into my local ballet company. I credit it, in part if not mostly, to you.
Your determination and undying love for ballet has been a constant point of inspiration for me since I was 16. Your content, (especially the Vlogs and lifestyle videos) were a comfort to me in painfully hard seasons of my life. You are the reason I started to take ballet serious again and worked to get back up on my pointe shoes.
Honestly Kathryn, even If you never uttered the word ballet again I would still follow and watch your journey, you truly feel like a friend to me.
Whatever this new season looks like, embrace it fully, and I hope you will share it with us. It’s never been about what you can do but who you are to us.
We are here to support you, and we love you so much❤
    -Emma

You may never read this, but just in case: I only just "found" you this year (2024) when I started back to ballet classes at age 40. (I sadly had to quit at 6). I have the advantage of not being burnt out because I MISSED 35 years of training; but as someone who's starting from THIS place in life, I really appreciate you and your content far more than "the ideal" (or whatever terminology you used). Realistic, healthy, fit, beautiful - you are all these. We are not meant to stay a svelte 17 into our mid life, and all bodies do evolve. I hope you continue to enjoy your personal journey with ballet and let the stress go - there are so, so many of us out here who appreciate all of your content and what you've given us for the love of dance and learning. 🙏🏼

Your resilience after having to cut short the "typical" ballet path has been so remarkable and inspiring. Ballet should always serve you and not the other way around. Dancers with beautiful souls will always have something to offer even as newer generations surpass in technical ability because ballet is about the soul and the body both. ❤

Katie, as always, we love and appreciate your honesty and candidness and transparency. You never need to apologize for needing time for self-care. You have always been an admirable advocate and model for taking care of yourself. Burnout is difficult -I left 15 years of teaching high school because it was affecting my mental health. New chapters are hard and we are happy to support you in this transition. Katie we all have moments where we feel like we're not "meeting the standard" and are so much harder on ourselves than necessary, it's good to have standards, yet it's not healthy to always NEED to meet them. You are absolutely in your right to take time off. The ballet world is as beautiful as it is tough. For me you are a role model for truth, honesty, defying the norms and just being yourself. I applaud your transparency with us, your subscribers and I also believe that quiet time can only heal and help us reflect on what we need from time to time. As we grow and mature, so do our values and priorities and that is perfectly ok, my main concern for you is that you're doing well and being kind to yourself! Sending you a big hug!

It's very hard to let go of something that you trained for from a very young age and which took up every waking moment of your life up to this point. But you've done it, Kathryn, you've performed at the highest level of fitness and artistry for years and you must listen to your body and your feelings. If dancing at that high a level is starting to hurt your body and soul it's time to diversify. Dancing will always be a part of you, it's in your DNA but I think you deserve a big fat slice of the other joys in life that are out there to be discovered, fulfilling other dreams that had to be pushed aside for a long time. I think passing on the joy of ballet to others is a very important thing to do and I thank you for that, you're a wonderful teacher.

Not a ballet dancer (I mean, when I was a kid) but I was a, I dunno, semi-professional? belly dancer for years, and I also have thyroid disease, and your videos have been so, so helpful to me over the years, and I hope you feel nothing but incredible pride for everything you've done and created on UA-cam and in your teaching on the stage over the years, because you have clearly been an incredible force in the lives of so many, and probably WAY more than your subscriber count or comment section reflects. I hope you keep posting because you make charming wonderful videos and you come across as a charming wonderful person, but whatever your new relationship with UA-cam is, know that this one weirdo sorta-kinda dancer from Canada wishes you nothing but the best next chapter you could possibly imagine.

Ugh you have no idea how much I needed this today. I’ve been in a similar transitional stage where all my peers are still out there being dance stars and I love that for them, but being on stage for me feels more and more like a chore. I much prefer coaching and teaching, and exploring things I love that are completely outside of the dance space. Just this morning I ditched going to a class because of a bad knee that I didn’t want to spend all morning fighting against yet again. I felt so bad for it but hearing this update just reminds me I’m not alone. I feel like I’ve also watched so many dance peers who were originally all for changing the dance world slowly start to bow down to it and not care as much about changing it too… and I just can’t take it. Glad to know I’m not the only one going through such mixed emotions!

The ballet world might not have changed as much as you hoped yet, but you have planted seeds that will continue to grow, and will have a more significant impact than you might even imagine. I see a rainbow of beautiful dancers of different shapes, sizes, colours, gender expressions and ages across the internet (and sometimes even...gasp...on the stage...) doing it their way, fiercely and unapologetically. I really believe that the majority of them, if asked who inspires them, would include your name high up on the list. No matter whether you dance, teach, mentor or stand on your head wearing purple bloomers, you are Kathryn Freaking Morgan...you will always be her...and that is an amazing thing to be.

Don't be so hard on yourself. You're doing great! Thank you for everything you have shared with us over the years. I look forward to what's next for Kathryn Morgan. Sending you all the love! ❤️

I hate that the ballet world is driving away talented dancers who love it, because the level of perfectionism expected is just out of control. I understand the very top companies will always have extraordinary dancers and sky-high expectations, but there's room for the rest of us also. People who are out there being cruel to humans who are lucky enough to have found an artistic outlet they love, and that brings them joy in a very hard world ... what are you even doing with your lives? What joy and beauty are YOU bringing?

Hi Kathryn, since we’re being honest, this is the video I have been wishing for! Not that I want you to be burnt out,
or stop performing…burnout is a horrible feeling and transitions are so hard even when you’re ready for them, but mostly because I originally subscribed for your lifestyle and vlog content. I felt that we had a lot in common in our sense of style and interests and found you to be an inspiration to watch. I enjoyed getting to know you and your personality! I danced from ages 5-20 so I found ballet content interesting but it was always secondary. I will continue to watch no matter what you do! Love from Canada! 😊

I think you recognizing that you are at this point is great and so healthy. You deserve to rest. I hope you have kids soon - seeing my sister with hers makes me see how special it is.
As for content - could you pleeease do more pas de deux videos for trying to learn pas de deux? For the man and woman. And then also, can you teach us how we can make our own unset classes too, please? This would be amazing. And love your idea of doing more workouts/classes for us - thank you!

Katie - there is no reason to cry. Everyone reaches a breaking point, and taking that break for your own mental health is NOTHING to be ashamed of nor anything the vast majority of us are going to condemn you for. I think all of us have or will have this kind of breaking point in their lives - Mine was a couple years ago surrounding my career, so I completely get it about not dancing anymore - I get it. Its better to put it away before you start to resent it.
Heres to the next chapter (raises her coffee mug!) If you were in a place like Royal, you would KILL as a senior character artist. It doesnt feel like US ballet really has a role like that for their retired ballet performers, but those are the kind of roles you seem to thrive in anyway and I cant wait to see you take your Carabosse on tour across the US :)
Since the beginning of your journey, you've been a mentor to so many people online. I wouldnt have started my adult ballet journey without having come across your channel. It feels like a natural next step for you and I cant wait to see it happen as you grow into that role more. I am proud to say I've been a part of your journey for along time, and can't wait to see whats next for you as you continue to grow the studio and KM and friends. The ballet world needs you in whatever form you feel strong and confident in being in

Dear Kathryn, thank you so much for being so honest. You are such a wonderful person with a huge heart. I just wanted to let you know that of course you took a break if you were burned out - it is necessary so there is no need to apologize. You needed a break and it is so important to listen to our own needs. It is great to see you back of course but the most important thing is that you are doing better and that you feel you are ready to be back and that you know what you want.
Transitioning from a professional career that has been your life is never easy. But it is good to be honest with ourselves and know when it is time to go on and do something else and it seems like you know what you want and what makes you happy and gives you meaning. We all have different periods in our life when priorities change and also we change so - go for what makes you happy, always! Listen to yourself and follow your new dreams now! I am cheering for you! All the best on your new path, you have shown earlier that you are such a strong person and know what you want and what you tolerate and where you set the line so - put yourself first and enjoy your life! Life is too short to waste it on something that does not suit us anymore. Spread your wings and fly into your new chapter of life! You have so much to offer but you need to enjoy it on the way as well!
    Good luck

I got into barre as a way to diversify my pole fitness dance and I loved how it made movement feel so free and easy in my body. I haven't danced in over two years since I had my baby two and half years ago and I want to get back into it because I've finally learned to love my body no matter what shape it's in. I have such a bittersweet feeling surrounding dance and my own aging. I'm 30 now (turning 31 very soon) and I've danced my whole life, semi-professionally for a while, but I never quite hit my "peak" as defined by the dance world at large. Never worked completely professionally, nothing like that. I've always had a small voice in the back of my mind, a small hope that "maybe someday I'll do it" or "I'll get back in shape soon" but I also feel my own window slowly closing due to my own aging. I'm being honest with myself in regards to my own slow mourning process and trying not to deny myself my right to be very sad and cry, but it's hard. I have so many other things I want to do creatively and I will NEVER stop dancing for my own enjoyment, but it's hard to admit to yourself when it's time to stop.
I'm also an actress and comedienne which I'm so excited to continue to do, but I just love dancing so, so much. I say all this to tell you how much I enjoy watching your videos and continuing to stay in shape (not ballet academy shape, but well enough shape I can dance with my local community theater) along with you. You help so many people keep their love of dance alive even after it's time to hang up the shoes. You are absolutely beautiful and our lives are meant to evolve and change. Thank you for everything!

Kathryn, how brave of you it is to be so vulnerable and honest in a public platform. Thank you for that, I appreciate it. Just a few days ago, I was scrolling on IG and was thinking how everything nowadays is about sales and advertising, and how I missed people being real and open. Of course it is completely okay to use social media to promote your product / services, some pages just overdo it (I'm not referring to the ballet world, just generally speaking). However, watching your video was very refreshing. As humans, we all go through difficult things, but on social media, we only see the behind the scenes of people's lives so we tend to think we're the only ones struggling with insecurities, burnout, etc. When in reality, everyone goes through this and it's just part of life. You should never apologize for not releasing more content, or for not being who people expect you to be. If you feel like you need a break, or that you're ready to move on, you should definitely follow that path. The people who matter will always support you. ♥️ You have done so much for the ballet world, even if you don't know it.
I remember a year ago, I was speaking to a friend from Belarus, we were planning to meet that day, and I was like "Sure, let me just finish this Kathryn Morgan barre first" and she was like "What? Really? I'm also doing a Kathryn Morgan barre right now!" It was so funny and not planned at all. I didn't even know she did your barres too. 😅
Well, just wanted to say thank you for everything you've done. ♥️ Your reach in the ballet world is bigger than you think, your channel is probably one of the first ones in the ballet world and your content is very original. I think you have paved the way for the next generation. I will always keep following your journey, even if it takes a different direction. I'm all here for it! Sending love 🙏

Very brave of you to make this vlog!
You don't actually owe anybody explanations but thank you.
I have never danced in my life, but I love watching ballet. I found your channel 3-4 years ago when I saw your "why I left Miami City Ballet" video. It was very upsetting to see you treated with such a lack of respect.
I really identified with this because I had/have a similar health situation which is an "invisible disability" so I look normal on the outside. But nobody sees me when I'm in bed for 24-48 hours doubled over with pain for which no painkillers work.
I'm very glad you made that video so you could tell your side of the story and expose the company for what it is.
I'm also glad you have come to the realizations that you have become burnt out, that performing may not be in your future, but that you enjoy helping others.
You have such a sweet and courageous spirit.
    I'm not saying that idly.
Some people who go through a life-altering health situation, poorly understood by others (meaning the sufferer has to put up with the emotional pain of friends, colleagues and bosses not really believing it "maybe if you just tried harder" or "if it was me, I'd [fill in the blank with something unrealistic which proves they don't get it]" kind of bs)
and one in which they end up effectively disabled and unemployable become very bitter.
But you are choosing to focus on helping others, and you enjoy doing it!
Tip: look up the list of "cognitive distortions." These are negative thoughts everybody has from time to time, but it's so helpful to recognize that they are a distortion of reality.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is super helpful. You may already have done something like this as an elite ballerina to learn how to maximize your performances.
If you feel yourself getting burned out with making daily Vlogs, please take a break!
    Thank you for being you.
Wishing you and all your dear ones the very best!! 🙏😄🐶💕🎼🌺🦋🌟

    Katie,
Since the days of Marie Taglioni, when she became the first ballerina to go on full point, the sentiments you have expressed here are exactly the same. Except in a different language.
I have known great ballerinas who have faced the same dilemma.
They all have different results in this decision. It's almost impossible to say goodbye to ballet dancing.
Some were stubborn and refused because dancing and only dancing were LIFE...
    ALICIA ALONSO
    MARGOT FONTEYN
    MAYA PLISETSKAYA
    ALESSANDRA FERRI
    CARLA FRACCI
    You know the rest....
What makes your situation different is that you actually have a life where you can find and have happiness without professional dancing.
You are a force of nature. You are an entrepreneur, businesswoman, master teacher, married to a Prince Siegfried, and looking forward to giving birth to an heir.
You're a Godsend for the outcasts of ballet society who feel your love, magnificent presence, and the rewards you praise for their hard work in class or tutorials.
You are joining the class of the many who have to go through this. It's part of the deal of being a star.
My suggestion is to pick a particular date for your no-pity final performance. That way, you can get a feeling of closure and have a completeness about your decision.
I feel privileged and fortunate to have experienced the KATHRYN MORGAN spirit firsthand.
    Thank you.

Okay first of all: Finn is absolutely adorable and I can’t wait to see more of him 🤣
Burnout is such a real thing. It is absolutely a real thing. I completely understand why you needed to take minute to deal with it and you were smart to take the time you needed to meditate on it. Your mental health absolutely comes first. (I have been there).
And in terms of your content, it’s actually exciting to see this new chapter of your channel. Especially knowing you’ll feel so much better and happy. Cuz I think most of us viewers want you to be happy, onstage or not. I’m excited to see the Carabosse rehearsal vlogs and maybe some ballet character acting videos!
Thank you for being honest (as always), for being smart on what you really wanted, and thank you for taking care of yourself. You are a human first and a dancer second after all. And just because you won’t be onstage, doesn’t make you any less of a dancer at heart or in the studio teaching. ❤️
Finn and all of us are right there with you. 💗💗💗

Thank you for sharing your journey and thoughts Kathryn. At the end of the day, there is no need to apologise for safeguarding your mental heath and physical health. All the best. I am still looking forward to your online classes.

Know you from attending innumerable New York City Ballet performances. So when I stumbled across your videos in more recent years, I subscribed. Love your videos - both your honesty and your ballet tips. Therefore, I wanted to comment on this particular video, since you have given me so many happy moments - both at NYC Ballet performances and now with these ballet tutorials. - First, the only real cure for "Burn-out" is - to take a break. Whether short or long. Relish the other things in life that relax you or intrigue you or inspire you . Including the romantic part of life, like Juliet! When I have done that, I get refreshed, then eventually start craving to go back to what I had become sick of. Mastering a skill is so fulfilling, but too much of even a good thing can get one sick of it, and needing to sample other treats in life. (Peggy Fleming took off several years from figure skating, then fell back in love with it again, and skated beautifully in shows, with both fast spins and high jumps, just skipped the more difficult jumps). Secondly, as far as having high standards, obviously that is what made you succeed as the "cream of the crop" in the ballet world. But honestly, the reason I fell in love with both ballet and figure skating in the first place was the sheer beauty and difficulty of what are considered even the more "basic" moves & so-called "intermediate" feats, like a beautiful pirouette(s) or a grand jete (done well of course!). Watching or acheiving even the so-called simpler stuff can be so satisfying, cuz it is still so amazing. - Lastly, you said you are hurting physically. Physical pain can make things look so much bleaker than they really are. Again, the sure-fire Remedy is to simply take a break and let yourself Heal. - Although I'm sure you already know alot of what Im saying, I thought putting it into words might clarify the obvious - as well as send some sunshine your way. The same as you have done for so many. So, Good Luck! - Lynda
