As some one who grew up listening to jungle/dnb since 1995, and began mixing vinyl in 2004 jump up used to be a whole different style and indeed over the years what used to be called jump up morphed down into what would now be called liquid and the jump up genre has taken on more of a dark tech/dub step style. As a prominent jump up dj back in the day I would only play a couple of jump up tunes now. It’s definitely not the same.

I have found over the past few years that neurofunk/neuropunk d&b is pretty dark and dirty jump up like the old days worth looking into if you’re an old school jumper upper

Great to see you get to High Contrast. Fyi it's 1 guy who's is the producer, the singer is Diane Charlamagne probably most well known for featuring the garage track by MJ Cole - Be Sincere. Soo there is a vocal sample in this track but also original lyrics. The main 'If we ever get out of here' is original I think, the high pitched but that extends and says something like 'dont make a sound' that's a sample.
As a younger man we’d be on a couple cheeky pills up all night with High Contrast…..as a middle aged man now…give me a sunny afternoon, bbq, bottle of rum and some High Contrast. Absolute timeless tunes from a master at work.

I was 260 lbs and even though my knees where shot this soundtrack kept me running through the pain and this track was always reserved for my last mile. The adrenaline and nostalgia it produces still gives me drive to carry on running.
This takes me back. I used to rinse liquid d'n'b throughout uni -- great for studying. If you like this, you have a massive catalog to explore from Hospital Records alone. Great production values and super catchy melodies.

after over 20 years of listening to dnb Liquid is my current favourite. Pretty much all i listen to now. High contrast has done some awesome remixes if you want to go down that rabbit hole.
I always find that DnB (along with Trance, Deep House and various other electro dance music) is perfect for snowboarding to. The patterns always help me to navigate my runs without getting distracted with huge lyrical content that you'd find in other musical genres. So, in that sense, what you mentioned about it being perfect work out/homework music is very true. The brain moves in sync with such patterns. Has anybody thrown up Andy C - Bodyrock yet as an important tune to get to? That one was a game changer, all of a sudden people were saying 'what, you mean you can slow DnB beats right down to that tempo on a track??'.
IMO Hybrid Minds have been the best and most consistent in releasing liquid DNB tracks, check out anything by them, im personally a big fan of Hybrid Minds - Fingerprints Ft. Grace Grundy, love you guys checking out DNB though, such a great genre. Also for more High Contrast I always loved High Contrast - Kiss kiss bang bang.

Recommendation for one of the greatest D&B tracks ever made: Renegade Snares by Omni Trio. The ORIGINAL mix. Most know the commercially more popular Foul Play remix, but in my opinion the shape and movement of the snares of the original was unsurpassed at the time, and the melodies throughout are fucking beautiful.

Old skool jump up was great cos it was so diverse. Nowadays it’s really bass orientated. Liquid has always been more eclectic. Check out Noisia. They cover everything on their albums.
You have DJs that cut dubs but also some of the biggest producers are simply producers and mad with the buttons. Some also DJ or perform at events/raves.
Sometimes it's samples, some other times they're also vocalists (or hire someone to sing) and there are even a few Drum n Bass actual bands (the most famous is Pendulum and i recommend it).

I mean i listen to more older stuff 10+ years but the new stuff aint bad its just more modern maybe even minimal? Again not that its bad, its just different times, regardless dnb for life! It can suit nearly any mood. Love that yall are incorporating more of it into your channel though thank you so much seriously. Also not sure if anyone else feels this way, but i always thought a beautiful thing about drum and bass is usually everyone hears something different on first listen, or latches onto something specific that they are enjoying. It could be the hook the background rhythms a certain vocal hook, the bass or even just the drum beat because of the certain samples that are used.
