  • The Yeoman Cropmaster 250 was an Australian agricultural aircraft developed from the CAC Wackett trainer of World War II. Almost 1/3 of the total production of 21 aircraft were eventually imported to New Zealand and they saw extensive service in the agricultural aviation industry in that country. This is the last remaining airworthy Cropmaster.

Viewers will be interested to know that the original Cropmaster still had the CA-6 Wackett's Scarab radial engine, wooden wing and tailplane etc. and they were known as the KS.1, KS.2 and the KS.3. The Dept. of Civil Aviation in Australia were concerned about the aircrafts wooden wing and tailplane/fin etc. standing up to the rigours of cropdusting etc. So Kingsford Smith Flying Service Pty Ltd formed a new company called Yeoman Aviation Pty Ltd and designed an all new aircraft basically using the KS.3s fuselage, but with a metal wing and tailplane and a modern horizontally-opposed engine of 250hp. The first five Yeoman YA-1 Cropmaster 250s still retained the original Wackett's fabric & wooden tailplane etc. but most were later converted to the full metal set up seen here which has a 'Cessna' look about it. Nice looking aircraft, great to see one still in the air.

I remember a red and white one many moons back, I think maybe at Dairy Flat that would have been about mid 70's...

Did he say it ran an I0-470? If so - those augmentors make it sound brilliant...
