      It's been brought up, it's beacuse the Wolf memorial is being based on a fanwank depiction of the batle of Wolf 359 that made up retcons and other excuses for apocryphal ships like the Akira (that was designed post-wolf 359) or the Parliament (which was only brand new in 2381, over 20 years after Wolf 359).

    The whole concept Starfleet screwing around with a fleet of broken ships being turned into a memorial is pure fantasy. Any ship that was remotely whole would be repaired and recommissioned but most likely every hulk would’ve been scrapped and the raw materials used in new construction. At most the Starfleet would used one ship as a memorial like the USA did at Pearl Harbor with the Arizona. Forget the fact that the Akira class wouldn’t have been built by that time. I like ship porn as much as the next trek fan but I do expect it to make some kind of sense.

    I was a newly minted Ensign onboard the USS Kyushu when we were routed to the rendezvous at Wolf. Before the battle, our captain announced over the coms we were about to engage the Borg. A truely frieghtening announcment for a 24 year old who had just started a carrer in Star Fleet. The time was about 6am ship time when the cube entered sensor range, there was a since of dread we would not last the day. Obviously zero sleep was had by myself or my fellow flight. I was assinged to the shuttle bay and in keeping with my primary responsibility of operating the flight deck and the shuttle bay doors, I had to make sure our routs to the escape pods were cleared and rehersed. When the battle began, it was complete chasos in the lower decks, we all performed to the best of our training and abilities ensuring the shuttles were secured and safe. When we were boarded, the borg did not use any access hatches, they just appeared in front of us on all decks, roming around and assimilating all who tried to confront them. It was a slaughter, my friends, leutenant, even the girl I had taken to a holodeck date a week prior were lost. I used my issued type 3 phasor rifle only a few times before they adapted. And had to use the nearby jefferies tube to cross from the shuttle control room to the hallway access hatch. The lights were going on and off creating a darkened sight with steam explosions from whatever plasma conduit was in that subsection. The ship shook violenly as i moved slowly to the escape pod. Once there, several borg had positioned thselves at workstations nearby. I slid past them not even angry as they were mindlessly doing the destruction and creating death. I knew i was one of the last on the deck as most of the stationed crew were laying about becomming assimilated. I fired my Phasor at them fo releave their pain and allow my safe passage to the pod. The pod was easy enough to access as the doors were automatically opened and the controls set for a rendevous at a specific coordinates away from the battle. My pod shot away from the ship and I could see the destruction of the saucer section, glowing gold and red from the burning plasma fires. My pod was slightly damaged when some debris impacted the port thrusters. Limping along as the cube took up the entire window and space behind it. After several hours in the pod, which i believed was my toomb, a Correllian barge located me and pulled me onto the ship providing aid and comfort to any survivors. I was transfered to Starfleet on a makeshift trading station frequented by the alien dredges of the sector. Once in friendly hands, I was provided care for my superficial woulnds, but the mental scaring has been difficult to overcome. To all my deceased servicemen, it was an honor serving with you.

    Interesting. I suppose there would be a monument to Wolf 359 considering the great loss of life. I wonder though if they would display so many damaged ships? The creator of this has taken a Pearl Harbor-like approach to the monument, but I wonder if Starfleet would have done something more celebratory of the future these losses allowed vs. focusing so much on death/destruction.

    • @DocTomoe812
      @DocTomoe812 7 місяців тому

      Considering how many survivors we encounter onscreen, I doubt a 'happy-go-lucky', the future is bright approach would have sat wrong with them. I would also expect there to be something reminiscent of the Vietnam War Memorial in that central station, naming all the losses.

      And even in your reference to Pearl Harbor, only two ships that were sunk there were not returned to service in some way. The Utah and the Arizona. I think that Doc is partially correct in that there would be a memorial at the main station, but I think there would also be a token ship as well. Since the "economics of the future" were never fully described in any of the many series to any great extent, I can't pick a class that would stand for all the losses.

    Uh, have issue with one ship design on display was designed specifically because of 359 so it couldn't have been there. Also it's interesting how all ships have all their parts and no displays of tangled messes that could barely be determined to be ships let alone what class they were. Convenient. Don't tell me they didn't save those wrecks since those ships died too.

    Fantastic work. I figure that Starfleet would eventually build something like this, generally matching back all the components into their old shapes. My only critique is the presence of the Akira-Class. I believe because it was mistakenly featured in STO at the battle simulation, there's confusion of one being there and Beta-Canon is running around in a head-spin about it. The Akira-Class was part of a new generation of post-Borg designs, like the Defiant.
    Happy to see a Probert in there!

    Interesting is that all the starships are Federations. What happen to their others classes and races? Also, the ships seem to have the skeletons beams mostly intacted. In a really bad fighting motion of the ships would be totally gone or be unrecognizable since they would be carrying weapons of very heavy imaginable😅 exploding field.

    • @Kreachie

      Tbh, it was only one of Two in service at the time, The Akira-Class was proposed and started construction during the Cardassian War as a convoy escort and patrol ship, Prior to the end of the war only Akira and that other ship, the Kaneda, were launched, at War’s end? The Akira project was shelved and the 3rd vessel that was under construction, the Tetsuo, was broken up in dock … that was until Kaneda partook in Wolf 359, after reviewing the Kaneda’s performance? Even though she did go down in the end? She outlasted most of her fleet members, and so They started construction on a new wave of Akira-Class vessels which were ready by 2370.
