Actually, how big are the pigment particles, how big are the holes between the mask fibers, how big is the virus? I think you actually need an N95 or better to truly be effective in either situation. Maybe spraying something a bit sticky on the outside of a regular mask could help capture particulates but I'm not actually a medical professional. Definately should use protection if possible when using those pigments.
