For a player of his stature, he speaks with such diplomacy & humility with regards to the club, players & himself. He is confident enough not to need to raise his own self worth during the interview. It just makes him a much bigger person. His interviews gives us more reason to admire him, his thinking behind his replies not unlike his game analysis during Barcelona's matches. Pretty funny that it's the biggest player in the world being so open about everything. He just gives his honest opinion without a filter. Something a lot of players lack because of their media training. Can't believe I watched this guy grow up to become the greatest.

The main problem here is that Messi's ability is so alien that more often than not it inspires awe, or fear. Emotions that aliens evoke. Whenever Messi has been in a functional team, where the people around him treat him not as a god, but as a supremely talented member of a team whose sublime skills have to be complemented by those around him, his team has been near unbeatable. This was the case when Pep was around, when all around him were supremely driven and hungry people , who just happened to find themselves in the very fortunate situation of having Leo Messi on their side, and were fully committed to making the best use of their good fortune. This was also the case in the few brief years of the MSN era. No wonder he misses Neymar. The contrast with the atmosphere now couldn't be starker. It's as if the teams he plays for now, be it argentina or barca play in awe of him. As if he is an omnipotent god, and they owe it to him to win the champions league or the copa america. But of course, when God takes the field on your side, your task is not positional awareness, it is to be in awe. To watch the living God do divine things. This sort of divine awe also seems to be afflicting the interviewers of this video. The tone of the interview almost makes it feel as if the city of Barcelona sent it's emissaries to coax some clarity about what the future holds to the town seer. Meanwhile, the "seer" states pretty repeatedly that he is no seer, just an average guy who knows he can, and wants to, play football well, and win, but also states that one does not have to be a "seer" to see that the way we are going, we ain't winning anything this season. For the other half, the likes of Bartomeu and his board, rich, spoilt, hungry for power, and yet totally incompetent in the exercising of it, Messi inspires fear. They know that their mistakes are magnified precisely because Messi plays for them. When year after year, the Barca defense collapses when facing high pace teams on high pressure European nights, the board kept buying player after player whose preferred playing positions overlapped with Messi! Because when you don't understand football, you do not see that Griezmann is not Coutinho is not Neymar. You lost Neymar. But even a team with just Messi and Suarez can win a Champions League, if you have a defense capable of withstanding a press. These people know that they could get away with their dim-witted mismanagement, enjoying all the perks of power without any real accountability, if only Messi didn't play for them, and it wasn't so damn obvious every year how a team with Messi was being robbed every year by poor decision making. These people fear him. Given all this toxicity, it is no wonder that he craves to be someplace where he can be Human again, and just focus on playing. It is immensely sad to see him go, but frankly, true lovers of football will tune in to watch Messi no matter where he is playing, as long as he plays.
Very interesting take actually. Maybe he needs a team where players discharge their duties effectively without laying all the fucking burden on one man who's a demigod. As a barca fan I can just hope that players who were being submissive in his presence finally step up to the challenges ahead
