I remember going to a high school grad at my dad's school (where he taught) when I was 5-years-old. The students tried to lift me off the ground with all the helium balloons! It was so much fun....something I'll always remember. 🎈What a fun learning adventure!
KP STOLENMEMERY a rare element that is starting to disappear because of the amounts we are using it and it literally being blown out of the earth since it’s very light weight
Unfortunately, these 8' cloudbuster balloons by Pioneer have been discontinued! Thank you for making this video, and now it will serve as a wonderful memory!
Really? Hydrogen is twice the lightness when compared to helium, but when compared to oxygen, it is not much lighter than helium. You will need almost the same amount of balloons as you would need if you used helium. Think, if the atmosphere and the air we are in is helium, hydrogen gas would be half as light as helium, but when compared to the air that surrounds us, hydrogen is not much lighter than helium. I hope this clears the myth that Hydrogen can lift twice as much as helium in the air around us.
"Previously, terrestrial helium was thought to be a non-renewable resource because once released into the atmosphere, it readily escapes into space. However, recent studies suggest that helium is produced deep in the earth by radioactive decay, and that large untapped reserves may exist under the Rocky Mountains in North America and in natural gas reserves"
Huy Ly Well yah a lot of medical equipment use helium. And its going to run out, and theirs nothing we can do about it. However they did recently find a HUGE natural cache of helium... I cant remember where. Texas I think. Completely ended the helium shortage at least for now. But listen. I work for Walmart. And every Black Friday we fill hundreds of balloons for the displays. When BF is over, we burst ALL of them. Perfectly good balloons. Why? Because the balloons were custom made for Walmart and because of some copyright agreement, we have to destroy them. THATS waist.
Unless if they were popped with a flame or there was discharge of static electricity I doubt that would happen. The bond between the hydrogen atoms is too strong to be broken at room temperature and also like all flammable gases it needs to be concentrated enough in a given area to combust. Once the balloon pops the hydrogen would would just disperse in the air. As for the Hindenburg it was basically huge balloon like bladders within a bigger balloon like skin with easily enough hydrogen that a spark could've ignited the whole lot if the inner balloons were leaking
IT WOULD SEEM THAT IF THEY PAID TO GET IT, AND THEY DID, WHATS IT TO YOU. IM GONNA DO THE SAME THING SOON WITH THE NEIGHBORS CAT. WHATS IT TO YOU HATER?
The helium escapes out the balloons because the material is porous. Have you ever gotten a rubber balloon and the next day it was on the ground? that's why
Even though I'd said it before already on another post, I hope you people know that it's rather easy to make quite an amount of artificial helium in labs (and by extension, factories), since it's the second most simple atomic structure in existence, after hydrogen. In essence, no helium has really been wasted, since it costs only a bit to make anyways.
RedMatter No, it's only easy to make Helium in labs if they can separate it from natural gas from underground reserves. The helium is trapped there from nuclear decay over billions of years. And with the world's natural gas reserves dwindling we're not finding more Helium anytime soon. Also you can't just "make" elements in a lab, the only way to "make" a lot of helium is by fusing Hydrogen, which we haven't been able to do yet on a commercial scale. Because Helium doesn't form compounds since its an inert gas it doesn't react with anything so we can't extract it from anything either. Any Helium that is released in the air float up as you would expect to the top of the atmosphere where the solar wind picks it up and carries it to space. The closest source of Helium is the Moon where Helium flying off the Sun (an actual Helium producing "factory", since it fuses Hydrogen) is captured in the Moon's crust.
Make artificial helium, what does that even mean. To make HELIUM( in emphasis because I don't want it to be confused with "artificial helium" whatever the fuck that is) you would need fusion and the only way we can do that is nuclear detonation
these people are fucking dumbasses, saying they're wasting helium, come on people, they'll eventually pop it,why the hell would they let it stay up forever?
So, for someone like me (a sixty-and-some pound 5ft tall thirteen year old), the amount of balls they used would be more than enough to lift someone off the ground and remain airborne... Maybe even if just for a couple seconds longer.
I read that it indeed is an awful waste of a non renewable resource wheras Hydrogen not only is not such a gas but is also 25% MORE buoyant! Forget that it might be dangerous, where can I get hydrogen?
agreed. there is actually a helium SHORTAGE.. there was a while, where you couldn't buy helium at all. stores wouldn't sell filled party balloons except in small quantities, IF they had a tank. Stores are still on waiting lists for tank refills in some places. With that said, Hydrogen, is still extremely flammable, and could potentially be dangerous, when strapping that much of it to a human. But... that makes for great TV...
But they are using helium gas, and this isn't dangerous at all. Hydrogen, really is, because it is so explosive. Nowadays all of balloons are filled with helium. I have no idea where you can get hydrogen.
yeah hydrogen is definitely more explosive, especially if he is smoking... but you can get it at the same place you get welding gasses and carbon dioxide bottle refills and helium bottles. i.e. there are places that sell all of that stuff. You know though, you have to have a permit to operate a manned helium balloon thing. no pilot's license required, but you need permission and some training so you don't endanger others in airplanes etc
1:09 clearly this part was filmed on isle of grain, due to that chimney... Its was demolished probably in 2012-2015? (Grain power chimney) or 2014-2016 (kingston power chimney) Also im not referring to the date when its built and demolished, but i just think it was from these.

Cute line

yes thats what they said
and that my friends , is how you spend 5000$ dollars on helium
coulda made hydrogen out of water. Works even better and I doubt he'd be lighting cigarettes mid-flight

Yeah. Hydrogen is more abundant and lighter than helium. We really need to switch helium and hydrogen

Why not go outside when the weather gets better? And attach the man to the ground with a 3km long rope, time to go see the birds weeee :D
i can also hang a rope to my jet ski
What if one popped

3km of rope weighs an awful lot.

They didn't take into account the weight of the balloons themselves. That's why it took 18 instead of 14.

I wanna try till the balloons really lift me up there :)
Mr Beast should've watched this...
This sucks, in less than 100 years from now ,helium balloons with a foot of diameter would be worth like 50 bucks because our planet is losing it.
Yeah, but by that time we can get to Mars and harvest helium from there.
Conversion mate, the helium will come around again and I don’t see a problem with the shortage
Wasted so much Helium :(
Maybe they should use Hydrogen... (just don't smoke near it)
That'll just about halve the number of balloons they'd need.
Really? Hydrogen is twice the lightness when compared to helium, but when compared to oxygen, it is not much lighter than helium. You will need almost the same amount of balloons as you would need if you used helium. Xform Nan I hope you thought over what you just said because I mean its a provable fact that hydrogen lifts more than helium its the lightest element
Soon we will be getting helium from Mars, so, that won't be a problem.

Libbers wont accept that though because we have to keep up this notion that we're killing the planet by having fun. :-/

man the helium just goes back into the atmosphere, it's not like it miraculously disappears
Helium goes to outer space and leaves the athmosphere every time you release it in the air!
It doesn't, it depends on solar winds. Most likely it'll get diluted in the atmosphere...
Honestly i might consider making my dream come true this way.
