Stage 01B Valcarlos to Roncesvalles

This is the alternative route to get to Roncesvalles. It runs from Valcarlos to Roncesvalles. You don't get the vistas of the Napoleon route but then you don't have to climb as high either. The last part to get to ridge is very steep and almost as tough as the climb on the Napoleon. But the forests are delightful. This is a 2020 re-edit of the stage taken in 2015 to better reflect the entire route.

These are great videos...is this route easier than the Napolean route?

It doesn't go as high but it is steeper for a little bit. Here are my opinions on the difficulty of the various options:
1) 10 - SJPDP to Roncesvalles in one day
2) 9 - SJPDP to Roncesvalles via Valcarlos in one day (you don't go up as high but it is still steep)
2) 8 - SJPDP to Roncesvalles in two days (with a taxi to and from Orisson to break it up)
3) 7 - SJPDP to Roncesvalles via Valcarlos in two days (stopping in Valcarlos) - scenery is not as spectacular
