I was fascinated by his voice on site without seeing his face at all. I was caught when he sang the first word. I could definitely say that his voice playing Javart is the best EVER. You guys must enjoy the musical in Queen's Theatre. His singing and performance is thousand times better than youtube playing. Nothing can ever compare to LIVE!!! You will never regret. Really worth it!!!
WOAH I found this on accident but I love it! One of the best! Favorites: Norm Lewis, Philip Quast, Tam Mutu, and Hadley Fraser. Not the biggest fan of Roger Alam. that could get me some hate.
Lucky!!! I went today and he was simply spectacular. I know have to admit I love Javert as much as Enjoras. A little sad he didn't come to the stage door, wanted to meet him so bad :(
Oh my god I thought no-one could overtake Norm Lewis as my favorite Javert, Tam Mutu has definitely done that. What a breathtaking performance. I will see this show next month if it kills me!! I must see Tam's Javert live. INCREDIBLE!
Okay well wow. At the end of the day you can disagree with me all you want but I still love this version so nothing you've said has changed my opinion. Having said that, maybe if I knew a bit more about singing and ranges and pitch etc I would probably agree but as it stands I do love this.
Mr. Quast of course gives a first-rate performance and many people find him to be their favorite Javert. He doesn't have the richest singing voice of them all but his timbre and color seem very well suited to Javert's character. Juan Rodo, the Argentinian bass also gives a terrific rendition of this piece albeit in Spanish.
Stephanie, well now you are asking.... such a long time ago, I think it was either late 1992 or early 1993. I just happened to be working in Manchester and stated at Copthorne and discovered Les Mis was on, managed to get a front dress circle ticket and I was so lucky... Philip Quast was Javert, Meredith Braun was Epomine - I think, she was one of my all time favourite as eponine, and if my failing memory serves me right Jeff Leyton was Valjean...
@Riecey Joy: I wish I had your job!!!! I've seen Tam as Javert twice and even though I haven't seen the other Javerts live (only on UA-cam), I still think that Tam's the best as he transmits more emotion in the parts where he speaks emphatically as opposed to singing. As I read somewhere - and agree wholeheartedly - Tam makes you care about Javert when you normally wouldn't.
I was there two months ago. His voice is so tender but strong. Scroll the page of Queen Theatre, Choose the seat, and Click on the button BUY, RIGHT NOW!!!
Oh, and to hear some really first-rate versions of this songs, check out Brian Stokes Mitchell, Juan Rodo (Spanish version in Argentina but not great video quality), and Earl Carpenter.
Tam gives us an angry wild and hateful Javert here. He's good, very good I like it when the 'Javers' don't always just imitate the "Best of The Best Javert: 🩷Philip Quast 🩷" or copy his Javert. Very nice, very different... And also a beautiful man, definitely plays in the top league too....
He is good I grant you that, but there is only one true Javert and that is Philip Quast. I did see the show a week or so ago and the understudy James Gant playing Javert was excellent.
There IS only ONE Javert, having had the privilege to see him twice in London and once in Manchester and that is Philip Quast, he is the master of Javert, almost effortlessly hits every note, every emotion and when needed utter contempt - he IS brilliant
Can't disagree with you more. The vocal technique and production is juvenile with the tone dry and pushed in the lower register while throaty and strident in the upper register. Besides getting pitchy with poor intonation, Mr. Mutu resorts to shouted words to cover for vocal deficiencies. This performance not only falls well short of Norm Lewis, I can in no way regard it as even being first tier.

Love the powerful quality that Tam Mutu brings to the role. Has to be one of the best Javerts the west end has ever seen!
yes I agree. Although I must say I thought Earl Carpenter also made a fantastic Javert. All in all excellent West End talent!
Saw this last week. Tam Mutu blew my mind, unbelievable performer
I've seen him as Javert 3 times and each time he has completely blown me away
1:43 sounds like an angry Italian man sneezing
I just spat out all of my water.
ROFL!!!
+Connor Sheridan Hahaha xD
So just sneezing?
Saw him last night. Freaking amazing. The crowd could hardly contain their applause while he was singing. Completely breathtaking.
Saw it at Queens in February. First time I had seen it and had purposely avoided the film at that point, Tam was incredible, stars blew me away
How amazing he is and how long he holds that last note. Gets me every time. x

I work at the Queens and he is genuinely, the nicest guy ever :) LOVE him!
As much as I adore Philip Quast, Tam Mutu is the only Javert to move move me to tears.

Apparently he was in the one I saw in 2013 and I only just found out today from the programme I have of Les Miserables
Second time I've seen this man and he's amazing best Javert ever!!
orchestra is on point
What a ham. Also "and so it-a must-a BE!" Was very Mario like

My favorite song in a musical. Ever.
He's my favourite Javert :)

I'll hear Juan Rodo. Thanks for the tip. =)
woah. I love this Javert
I do like your "at the end of the day" reference.
After seeing him twice he's the best Javert ever!!
Awesome wow
Definitely up there with Hadley Fraser.
His voice is good and fits for Javert, but his acting is so weird. He keeps putting emphasis on weird words and completely overacts in these moments
Please, hear Philip Quast and tell me after that. Many singers have based their interpretation in the Mr. Quast performance. =D

This comes off like a parody, can’t explain it...
Here's a shovel. Go dig yourself a hole, lie in it, and think about what you've just said.

HAHA omg that wasn't even on purpose hahaha!
Full show for trade?

When was Quast in Manchester?
My order is norm, tam, hadley
I will try to dig put the program to confirm all I say is correct.
Unlike earl carpenter does Tam have a ponytail for his wig

How on earth did you get all of these videos? You do know you're not supposed to film in there, right?
lol
Best? That’s a stretch
