Hi. I have recently bought my first Mantis Shrimp here in the U.K. I’m confused... your ‘clean up crew’, to a novice like me, looks like Bruce’s exact preferred dining menu? Has he started smashing his way through those yet? And also, fish wise, what have you been recommended would be suitable candidates not to get put on the menu too? Cheers
The cleanup crew has now mostly been eaten although that was always expected, there are still a couple of hermits and the spiny astreas have not been touched yet. Fishwise Bruce has never shown much interest, but I have kept to active fish that can look after themselves (and cheap just in case). Thanks for the interest!
Bruce will tend to throw any left overs out of his cave and stay on hand to remove this (although he will eat the whole thing on occasion). As for the piping this is never removed and I leave it to Bruce to keep his home clean.
It's not essential but it gives added water volume which helps keep things stable and let's me keep equipment (heater, skimmer etc) out of the display.
Love your videos in the next few weeks I’m setting up my own peacock mantis shrimp tank and your videos have been great. Keep them coming 👍. Also was your pvc 2inch diameter in your new setup?
I try to vary it as much as possible as he sems to get bored if I feed him the same thing too often but his staples are either a cockle in shell (so he has to use his smashers) or a silverside and I tend to feed him every other day. I have also given him crabs, ghost shrimp and various cleanup crew from time to time as a treat.
@@KungFuShrimp thanks again for your reply. But in terms of actual quantity, of whatever he’s eating... let’s use the mass of a pea as a unit... how much would he consume in let’s say a week?
That'd be difficult to say specifically as his appetite varies quite a bit as well. When he's hungry he will comsume the whole food item (cockle or fish) but when he isn't may only partially comsume it or even refuse food altogether for several offerings. In terms of the size of food items you can see the size of cockle in this vid ua-cam.com/video/alobwaE_1oQ/v-deo.html or the size of the fish in this one ua-cam.com/video/Z7FbnSCUbs0/v-deo.html I hope that helps.
@@KungFuShrimp they are great vids, thanks for the links. I’ll definitely be buying the cockles in their shells, that’s a 100% certainty. Looking forward to seeing your next videos.

Bruh help a man out how did you get one in the uk
Where does Bruce leave fish remains? Do you have to remove the plastic tunnels for periodic cleaning?
Bruce will tend to throw any left overs out of his cave and stay on hand to remove this (although he will eat the whole thing on occasion). As for the piping this is never removed and I leave it to Bruce to keep his home clean.

Yes it is 2 inch PVC. Good luck with your new mantis buddy!
Hi, what size PVC did you use? Thank you!
Hi his lair is 2" PVC. Thanks for the comment.
Bruce is a beautiful boy
He certainly is! Thanks for watching.
Does he ever go through to the top tube ?
Awesome videos. Subscribed
Would a mantis shrimp eat conchs? I'm thinking about get one and conchs breed really quick so would conchs be a good food source for a mantis shrimp?
I've never fed Bruce a conch but I think he would eat them, whether they would breed fast enough I don't know.
Do you ever do water changes if so how often
Thanks for the interest! Currently I'm doing a 15% water change (25 Litres) every 2 weeks although this is not set in stone.
how often do you wash the pipe insides?
In short I don't, I leave Bruce to keep the inside of his house clean. Thanks for the interest 😊
Can you detail your feeding regime for Bruce please?
I try to vary it as much as possible as he sems to get bored if I feed him the same thing too often but his staples are either a cockle in shell (so he has to use his smashers) or a silverside and I tend to feed him every other day. Update: have bought the cockles 😆
🤔😏😒That little blue fish is like the nosey neighbor every neighborhood has! They keep popping up & very annoying. ☹️😂
He is certainly a brave boy. Check out my Feeding time vid to see him sneaking in and stealing food from right under Bruce's nose!
@@KungFuShrimp - 👍I’m definitely gonna check that out. 😂
