    Of course, this is one of the greatest matches ever played in squash. On top of his skills, athleticism, and game knowledge, Farag is also one of the few players who consistently applaud the opponents for their good points, and open the glass door for opponents. I truly respect that, a great role model for junior players

      On the other hand I've never seen Elias applaud his opponent. Its one of the reasons I'm not a fan of his, talented though he is.

    It is unbelievable that Elias is playing the squash of his life but it has only actually made Farag to step up a notch and lift his game to a completely higher level. Bravo to both of them and can't wait for the next tournament.

    I swear Farag has some of the coldest starts on the world tour. I´ve been noticing for the past year or longer, that in his highlights against top opponents, he is down 4 or 5 points at the beginning very often.

    • @user-ns9bz5yg1u
      @user-ns9bz5yg1u 5 місяців тому +3

      I've discussed with many friends about Farag and have come to the same conclusion - Farag is very skinny, and isn't warmed up at the start of the game - which led to him usually being down 4-6 points at the start. But amazingly, farag still does not warm up even after beating his opponent and is hardly seen panting and sweating - simply a super talent.

    Applaud Farag has the guts and bravery to speak out about the mid-east issue at the award ceremony. As you can see, it's a hot potato topic, nobody in the US media or organizations like Squash Engine wants to touch it. However, any public figure can use his/her influence to speak out for humanity, it's their duty and responsibility. I applaud him for doing that.

      @@farisjc1 I think it would have been better if his comments were more neutral and not in favor of one side. (eg quoting claimed death tolls for example without attributing it to the body that is making the claim) So I'm not sure that quite a substantial partisan speech about his personal views on a current war, is quite the right thing to be doing at the venue of a squash competition winners presentation (unless he is a leading expert on the matter - and it transpires he is not - his field of expertise is squash)

    • @chessdaddy0720
      @chessdaddy0720 5 місяців тому +2

      @@1000000trs Given that he only has that much of time, he couldn't go length on that, right? But do you think the 30k death toll is wrong? In the meantime, the news coverages of the mid-east war are indeed vastly different between the United States and the rest of the world. As of matter of fact, on the vote of the UN resolution, the United States was on the very very small minority side of the votes with a couple of Pacific island countries (you know these countries). If the news outlets in the US can't provide neutral coverage, who is to blame? No wonder independent UA-camrs are gaining popularity while traditional news companies are losing viewers.

    Emotional control is something everyone can do and no one can do.
    Farag and Elias did not differ in technique, but in endurance and emotional control.
    Elias had too much desire not to lose rather than to win.
    I hope he grows into a great athlete who can use his unmatched talent.

    I’ve been watching squash for 40 years, and I think this is the best retrieving I’ve seen. Maybe Jansher is his equal. 8-3 second game, totally fooled, going the wrong way, and still gets it. Had to watch that several times. Incredible.

    • @Oldwilsful

      Jansher was the best retriever ever.

    • @ewallt
      @ewallt 5 місяців тому +1

      @@Oldwilsful I’ve seen a lot of his playing, and would agree, especially in his younger years he literally walked around the court, just amazing stuff, but Farag is the first that makes me think of someone approaching that level, if not exceeding, because one must take into account that the attacks are far more severe, for both reasons of equipment and a higher standard (and lower tin for part of the time). I’ll also mention that Jahangir was an absolutely phenomenal retriever, and I think that aspect of his game is under appreciated because he was such a good striker of the ball. One other thing that applies to both Jansher and Farag is their retrieval ability is tied to how well they read the game. I’d include Ashour here, when healthy, would get everything because he knew where the ball was going practically before the striker did.

    Saw it live in Grand Central. Observations:
    1. That first game was just one long grueling rally after another, few attempted winners from either player. Even with Elias pulling ahead 6-0 you could see it was taking a lot out of him (after his draining semifinal) - perhaps he should have played more aggressively to keep the points short.
    2. Farag's ability to retrieve what would be winners against other players, and efficiently enough not to fatigue, must be incredibly demoralizing to play against.
    3. While Elias was probably at a physical disadvantage, being larger and having had a tough semifinal (wish they had a rest day!) - he remains somewhat immature. You get the sense that in addition to the arguments with the ref (who did a decent job) it probably affected his strategy and shot selection. His mental game is still the part that needs the most work. That said, we never expected him to survive the 4th so he did show some grit!

    Increddible match and congrats for Ali! Enjoyed watching it!
    To be honest: i'm a big fan of Diego. But he really has to come up with another game plan if he wants to beat Ali on a regular basis. For me it's clear: if the game ends up playing long, hard rallies, Ali is gonna win them all day long just based on physique and stamina alone; without neglecting that he's a fantastic shot maker as well.
    I would like to see Diego putting his ability to inject pace and bite in the ball a bit more. Maybe experiment with some more unorthodox and riskier shots; he's got nothing to loose... idk. 🤷‍♂️
