There’s no foam, not in the zone. But as far as the resole goes. As long as you don’t wear the shoes passed the welt. The cork wood insole should remain in tact for the new outer sole. I believe red wing charges more if you want the corkwood sole replaced.
To answer your question, I do indeed find it interesting. I know how to clean and condition my boots, but you're hilarious so I watch your videos, haha.

I think you did a great job on the video and the editing! And if you were to make more Red wing focused videos, no matter the duration, I would watch the videos all the way through! I personally feel your 875s turned out great! The sticky or tacky feeling your referring to is also prevalent with the Red wing leather conditioner paste, I actually quite enjoy it. Regarding the Re-sole/Break-in question you posed, the boots' service request form is very specific! I'm on my second pair of 875s, having sent out the first pair for only a resole, I couldn't believe how MUCH BETTER my 875's felt/wore!🔥🔥🔥 The old/perfectly broken in foot beds combined with the new outer-soles is a PERFECT COMBINATION! I’ll tell you exactly what happened. They were a light tan color brand new. Then the RW associate put their boor oil on it while I was checking out. When they were handed back they were significantly darker and had that red hue to them. After that, I’ve used the Red Wing products seen in the video. Even if you do nothing, they’ll eventually patina to this color. I hope they work out for you! Thanks for watching.
Good video, I have a pair of 877's I use "goo-begone" and then wipe them down with a damp cloth ,let them dry and apply mink oil . The mink oil does darken them but it doesn't bother me much.
No problem. It was my first time using the Red Wing products. In the end I’ll definitely buy step 1 again, will probably use either the Red Wing conditioner or use my other conditioners I have on hand, and will probably not do the third set after this bottle runs out. I didn’t see a huge difference or benefit with it.

Step 3 is completely unnecessary IMO. When using the conditioner the beeswax & mink oil is all the protection you need. The spray will just sit on top of the beeswax not doing much expect putting a film on the conditioner. Get a cheap toothbrush for the welt stitches too. Good job man.
I’d have to agree with you on that. I’ve never tried it before, so I figured I’d give it a shot. But honestly once this bottle is done, I don’t see myself getting it again. I did like the cleaner and conditioner though.

Good question! It’s great stuff and will definitely keep the boots in good shape. Honestly I’ve always ended up going back to using a horse hair brush and Bick4 conditioner. Mainly because it doesn’t darken leather and is a light natural conditioner. However if you’re looking to add some more waterproof the Obenaufs would be your better choice, or something like Chamberlain #3 (works great. Will Darken). I’ve found Bick4 will work for my daily uses. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

I have some time to consider it as I literally just got mine yesterday (my feet and ankles can attest to how new they are), so I have a little while to go before their first treatment. I’m not too concerned about the color as I think they will look good either way. Looking more for longevity and protection. Seeing how I’m about out of the obenaufs, I may try the Bick4.
Great boots and love them but find them alot heavier and clumpier than the 8138s and not as comfortable. Also can live in them all day as super comfy but walking 4+ miles in them is not comfortable and find them very hard on the soles of the feet. No need to re break after resole as the inner cork has already bedded to your footprint
Ok. To answer your question no you do not need to re break in your boots after getting them resoled. I just take my boot to redwing store and let them clean and oil.
Hi, Magoo. I bought my 875 about a year, I wore it like 8-9 times a month(never touch the water) and it brush it after I wore it. It looks pretty clean to me. My question is when should I oil it?
Great question! Your doing all the right things for daily care it sounds like. For conditioning/oil I would say every 6 months can be a good rule. At the amount you wear them and keep them dry, I’d probably just consider eyeballing it and condition whenever you think the leather looks dull, dusty, and dry. Otherwise, I wouldn’t go past a year regardless just to keep on top of it. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I wouldn't recommend putting boot oil on 875s. Red Wing recommends just cleaning, conditioning (leather conditioner), and finally use a spray-on boot protector. I only use boot oil on 917s.
Good question: a lot of people will say it’s not needed when new. However my boots were made years before I bought them. So I did an clean and condition. If you are wearing daily a full condition may be needed about every 4-6 months. If you are using a horse brush, wiping off dirt, and using a horse hair brush occasionally you probably can condition every 6 months. I’m OCD and tend to do it about every 3 months. You really aren’t going to hurt anything by conditioning them sooner then needed. But not doing it often enough can cause issues in the long run.
Magoo thanks for the reply. I enjoy maintaining things and am excited experiment with different products. I have the oro-legacy leather and want to see how much darker it gets naturally before using the conditioner. I’ll end up using it too often lol
I was also told they oil them. However, even if they did clean them I wouldn’t use it. Simply because the 2 locations near me have people working there that clearly don’t even understand the products they are selling. Which is a shame.
No offense but the boots didn’t even look like they needed a cleaning. I didn’t clean mine till 3 years later. I used saddle soap, let dry for 2 days and then used conditioner.

Magoo I used the dr marten conditioner, it doesn’t darken to much and it’s really good on the leather. And it’s not as expensive as the redwing products. Good video over all.
I love people who are spaying chemicals next to an open candle flame. I guess the huge layer of beeswax oily stuff must be enough to protect the moc toes for ages. I think you are living in a harsh and rural environment where the best protection is needed to survive.
I see no purpose of doing all this work and not finished it up by also cleaning the soles. If you just want to protect them then just oil them and be done with it. Infact you don't even have to do the work or spend anymore $. Just drop them off at Red wing store and they do it for free.
There's some personality in this video, i see some would liked better for you to just clean them and be quiet. Not me, this was a fun video - so many ''asmr'' cleaing videos out there and worst case turn off the sound on this video.
I’m not interested in the aesthetics of the soles, which would be the only reason to clean them since they are rubber and will eventually end replaced anyway. I clean the leather not for looks, but to keep it from wearing out prematurely. But, if you are trying to get a white sole, you’ll want to use something other then this. I’ve seen some people use toothpaste interestingly enough.

Soap and a toothbrush. Also as with white sneakers white toothpaste works wonders but must be pure white with no colour lines in it

I agree 100%. I’ve used that on all my leather for about 10 years. After trying Red Wings version, I’ll definitely go back to using Bick4.
The resole won’t effect the upper of the boot it may be a tad bit newer or stiffer feeling but not much
If you decide to get the red wing resole they will feel sliding into a glove there's no breaking period because you've already

They don't clean them they only oil them. Two different stores have told me this in my area.

You need to wipe excess moisture after cleaning. Also use less of that conditioner.
