I'm directing it to people who are constantly saying the game is "dead", "dying', and that it has become bad.
It's still a great game but if you only played a week before the atrocious 1896 update then you're really in no position to defend it against criticism. The game has been plagued with ridiculous issues for years that, if corrected, only creates 3x more issues. There's been a noticeable shift in the vibe of the game in the past year and many veteran players don't like it, including myself. I still love the game and have almost 2500 hours into it, but I'm seeing it morph from a niche cowboy shooter to a faster paced, COD-esque shooter.
Been playing for 2 weeks, I love the game! Audio, visuals, and map is awesome. My only complaint for console is aim assist is a little strong. Only game I’ve enjoyed playing at night (in game) because the ambiance and lighting is so good.

Speaking of ambiance, it's the best in the genre. 1300+ hours and counting, as a mdium 40+ player,. love it, can be improved and crytek is not doing the best in term of fixing some bugs and the new UI is not so good surely, but lots of fun and stress there. Punitive but also super rewarding. Soundfield is incredible, this game MUST be played with headphones, sounds are huge indicators on ennemies. ;) All DLC and transactions are purely cosmetics, so no pay to win here, juste nice to have bonus skins if you're into it.

That being said, it is clear that Crytek made an absolute blunder with the 2.0 update, cutting so much content from the game and leaving players with a buggy mess of a game for months. It wasn't until this december that I could tab out of the game, to for example call someone on Discord, without having my cursor permanently fly around the screen and the only fix being shutting down the game completely and launching it again. The UI is still bad and buggy, as opposed to just being bad. As stated in the video the game runs great until you get a random major performance hit and you just have to deal with it. Before the 2.0 update this was an easy recommendation for me. If you hadn't tried the game you should. After the update I genuinely did not want to recommend the game to anyone it was that bad. With the launch of the 2.2 update I would say the game is back to being worth trying if can get on sale. I would not recommend someone who hasn't tried this game to buy it at its full 30$ pricetag.
3k hrs on PS - it's made all other PVP type games shallow for me, there's so much depth and variety, no two games play out the same and the risk/reward is addictive. Love the art style too. On the down side it's punishing AF and one tiny error can cascade towards getting sent back to the lobby. In a world of vanilla fast paced insta respawn blah it's a special game.
The game is still worth it because of the framework developed over the past 4 years, but unfortunately the 1896 update, IMO, retrograded the game. The UI is still atrocious, the optimization is terrible, there are still 2 maps that need to be released, the varying weather conditions are absent, the game is shifting to a faster paced playstyle which is not why the game was originally praised, and the incessant monetization attempts are noticeably more invasive when compared to how many bugs/issues the game is still plagued with to this day. I love the game. I was so excited for the 1896 update, but in the attempt for the game to jump a gap to proceed forward to better things, the devs managed to trip, stumble, and fall flat. Crytek are progressively crawling their way out of the hole but, man, hardcore fans were so excited for the game to be better and it simply feels like a step backwards. I still recommend it though.
All the old heads wanted this game to be a mil sim confederate yee haw clone. It never has or will be. I enjoy the changes and direction. Post Malone doesn’t ruin it for me I play it anytime I can with my friends it’s always a blast

In short, no it’s not worth it, their 1896 was advertised as a 2.0 update to bring new players and ended up being a 0.2 update… lack of quality control with both community and game itself, even if it has old western themed guns… the addition of drones “bettles” special ammo “custom ammo” cheaters and exploiters as well as only 250ping limit for server to server region…. Makes the game unfun for the long term, while many will say it’s worth it , those are the individuals that try to be toxic positive over hard truths and facts on a game that is just not good anymore from when it use to be back in 2020

Now, it is a casual spam fest in large fights and a waiting game at high mmr. I really am glad you all are enjoying it but you are all still very, very new and this game has some patterns. They will put out 8× as many skins as they will fix problems with their game. It is a great, fun, atmospheric game but it is bogged down by goofy design choices and terrible bugs (most of the worst gone, though). Overall, it is a very unique game but, for us OGs, they really have brought this game to a place no one wanted to go; so, as a result, you'll hear "players are quitting" and it is true! All I am trying to say is that they swapped fanbases. Instead of leaning closer to tarkov, we are moving closer to fornite/cod in terms of ridiculous or outright goofy stuff that, IN MY OPINION, make this great game unenjoyable as a high mmr player. It is this weird clash of hardcore shooter meets tonnes of casual ideas, now. Sad. New players, I hope y'all keep the game alive.

5k hours since beta. The game is not what it once was. It's now full of bugs, glitches, cheats, and leaseweb servers which are awful.
