The appropriate contact point is dependent on the position of the left hand. The higher one plays on the string, the closer the bow must migrate towards the bridge.
Thanks, this really helped me get a better sound on the C string. The other strings are easy to get a nice tone. But I was have trouble with the C string. It was helpful about starting further from the bridge and then bringing the bow closer to the bridge. I'm new to the viola. Violin is my main instrument. Playing viola more than 5 minutes is causing pain in my fingertips pads, ..guessing because I have neuropathy. But today I realized it's that the viola strings vibrate much bigger than the violin strings and this big vibration is what is bothering the nerves. I got softer strings, thinking that would fix it but it's the super vibration that is hurting. So, it looks like I'll only be able to play viola briefly and infrequently.
Are you still using Warchal strings 🤔Curious, what strings are you using for this video? I’m always on the hunt for a new viola strings, and I really enjoy your video reviews!
Hi, what can I say...I wish you could be my teacher but I live too far, actually in Italy...anyway I look your videos and try to learn the best I can. Thank you very much!
I played along with you, in my fashion. I really enjoyed sinking into the sweet spots of the strings. Nice slow, thoughtful scale therapy!

It would be fantastic if you would release a video on the crescent bow stroke.
You make a plethora of points in this technical expose on bow technique.
Grand merci!
Il n’ya pas de quoi

Really enjoy your lessons! Thanks
Glad you like them!
String tension increases as the bow moves closer to the bridge, requiring a flattening of the hair to improve traction.
That is right!

Contact point closer to the fingerboard plus bow speed and fast vibrato -those are the sertings for high quality powerful sound projection.

The optimal sound point is a moving target.
If you weren't the real deal I wouldn't have clicked the silly title bait 😄
That is funny! So glad you enjoyed the video!
