I had misheard and I kept thinking 'wow, Maya Rudolph doesn't sound at ALL like she normally does.' And then... ooooooh. Also, if you see Maya Hawke in interviews... she pretty much embodies Anxiety.
OMG, the way her inner voice told her "I'm not good enough" is something every single one of us can relate to! There was not a dry eye in the theater during that part!
29:50 This scene made me cry because it is a beautifully simple representation of such a complex idea: building an identity for yourself that is not true to who and what you are. Some part of you will know and will reject it, and the way forward is to embrace everything, love yourself in all your complexity, the good and bad moments, and realize you're a person, and that makes you good enough.
I was an absolute puddle of tears in the theatre the moment Joy hugged her sense of self. All those feelings yelling at each other and to calm them down, a hug works wonders.
Having struggled with anxiety my entire life, I was literally brought to tears with how they depicted an anxiety attack. Seeing the kind of acknowledgement was so uplifting and powerful.
Something I really have to give massive props for with this film is that they didn't make Val a surprise villain. I remember when I saw that scene with them looking at the file folder in the office, I thought for sure Val and her group were going to convince Riley to steal it and get her into trouble. I am so glad they didn't go down that route.
I saw this movie in theaters with my mom and she was crying the end of the film and I just feel like the movie change my feelings so much! I didn’t realize it at first but now that I think about it months later I see the bigger picture.
There are many things I have seen and learned in this one (even if I am not taking psychology in College): 1. The line where Joy said "Maybe this is what happens when you grow up, you feel less joy." It's a painful realization but it is true. When we were born, we're still not ready to face the factors and challenges of life. But by the age of 13 or what Riley's age is, we're facing the factors and challenges of life, and we get less happy because of it. Life may be filled of challenges and trials, but we can still find happiness and joy at the end. As we grow up, we will experience new more complex and more sophisticated emotions and feelings. 2. Stop worrying or being anxious so much because the "what ifs" or "doubts" are just endless possibilities of what's going to happen because you never know what's going to happen or predict the future. So I'd say breath calmly and think positive. 3. Not everyone gets to fit in on everything. Not everyone can be in everything because we all have our best to fit in on this or that like did not pass on the auditions of dancing or singing or, in this case, not ready for hockey. If the coach thinks you're not ready even after all the hardwork and dedication you put through, then don't push yourself over your own limit. You have proved yourself in front of the coach that you are capable of fitting in. There's always next time because it is just a motivation of you to improve yourself. 4. Old friendships cannot be replaced. There are a lot of people in the places you are going to like universities or organization to the public because friendships are everywhere and not in a single place. You get to meet new people like Val and create friendships from her and the group, but old friendships cannot be replaced because you get to see them again someday and, once you do, you'll tell stories of what happened on this or that and your old friends can do the same to you. 5. True friends will forgive you unexpectedly when you don't think they will forgive you right away. You know what they say about Family is not always by blood but by bond. The way Bree made the first move and Grace to forgive Riley by doing their handshake as a way they forgive her despite her being a jerk to them shows Riley's friends are not normal friends but Riley's sisters. True friendships lasts forever when they forgive you unexpectedly when you don't think they will forgive you right away. We all have our faults but we need to embrace it. Faults are all what makes of us us to let the others know who or what you are. So we need to embrace it. Once again, Inside Out is not a movie but it is a crucial education of the importance of mental health to our well-being Edit: I just subscribed and turned on notifications 😁 love from the Philippines ❤️
If you haven't seen it yet; Cinema Therapy does an excellent breakdown of the psychology behind Inside Out 2 (as well as 1, and other movies) from the perspectives of therapists, and the breakdowns seem like something you'd find particularly interesting.
29:30 I can confirm that this film did indeed depict anxiety attacks accurately, especially with Riley using what she can hear, see and feel to keep herself grounded. That's one of the best things to do when having an attack, to focus om what's actually happening in the moment rather than what your anxiety is making you think. I had to do it earlier this week and this film's anxiety attack scene hits so hard for me
It was so much fun, I had a stomach ache from laughing at some parts. Watching Riley's journey through life is amazing. I hope there will be more to come. And anxiety sucks. I wanted to tear her hair out.
The last thing we hear Riley's Sense of Self (or 'Soul Flower', as I think of it) say never fails to hit me hard in the gut: "I just need help sometimes." Because none of us are good enough on our own without friends to support us.
Changing friends around that age can be rough. I remember I had a best friend for years through middle school and into high school. Then over one summer, the things we once had in common kinda changed and he wanted to hang with a new crowd and not with me anymore. I remember being so sad and basically spent a year of high school alone until I found a new group of friends, one of whom I’m still friends with 30 years later and was my best man at my wedding. Still, I do sometimes find myself thinking back to those times with that best friend, when we were kids….
They first changed the opening castle animation at the end of 2022 with Strange World, and it was featured in other Disney and Pixar movies like Elemental and Wish. All three of those movies are ones you haven't reacted to yet, and all with the exception of Elemental were box office bombs and critical failures. So it makes sense that you wouldn't have noticed the change in the opening.
I doubted whether Pixar could live up to the potential of the first film but I think they did such a good job at giving Riley some proper character development in this film. In the original, she largely played a passive role, whereas here, she dealt with conflicts and struggles, and we got a proper glimpse at how she processes her emotions and navigates complex situations like her friends going to a different school. I enjoyed Inside Out 2 more than the first film because of that.
I didn't know that hat was what anxiety felt like until I saw this movie. Sometimes during finals, even in my sleep I was trying to do unfinished math problems, I would wake up to realize that I was stressing over nothing as the problem didn't even make sense.
I really love anxiety as a character, imo there wasn't too many moments giving an idea that she has evil intentions, it was so often visible that she does all of this for the sake of protecting Riley and preparing her for new life situations, and at the end she was really cute in her relaxed form lol
"It's nice to think that your emotions are protecting you and are always on your side." If that's not a prophetic piece of irony to comment at the start of this film, I don't know what is.
The only thing that I don’t like about inside out probably being the best movie of the year (And dune too), is that Pixar is now only gonna do sequels from here till 2035 😅

I suffer from anxiety, ocd and ptsd. This movie hit me hard several times. I wish I could yank 'anxiety' away from my control board but she's too damn strong.
As much as i loved (and cried) watching Inside Out 2 in the cinema, i would have liked to see more of the parents but also see the emotional control rooms of The Firehawk girls during the credits like we did for the extras in the first film's end credits.
A strong contender for Animated Feature Oscar, although it faces strong competition from just-released THE WILD ROBOT (having just seen it, I can tell you that you need to keep a box of tissues in handy).
@@josearroyo8008 I have never seen an English-language animated film hit the emotional beats as effectively as THE WILD ROBOT does in a long time IMO. We’ve got a great year for animated movies. Inside Out 2, wild robot, transformers one, Moana 2, Piece by Piece, and Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim
I'm sure Lance's weak "power move" is based on Jigglypuff's Roll-out move from the Super Smash Bros. games (Melee owards) which is not useful when you just press B but you have to press and hold B to build up power. I'm sure that when Riley played the Super Smash Bros-like game she choose Lance because of how handsome he is but didn't knew how to use his moves and therefore didn't use him anymore after she lost that game because how "lame" she thought he was. Probably if she knew that you had to press and hold the B button, then she'd execute Lance's roll move much better and therefore the mind-Lance's move would have been more powerful because he is based on RIley's memories of him rather than for how he actually is in the game.
Arguing back and forth with ChatGPT, I feel like an Inside Out 3 movie is imminent with all these Nostalgia references. After 9 years, Pixar decided to age Riley only two years since the original. They're clearly making room for an Inside Out 3, which is gonna be set between age 14 and 18 for Riley. The typical challenges with age and self identity are going to appear, I predict. HOWEVER, me and ChatGPT were unable to agree if the third movie will include romance. Its a logical step, but it threatens to alienate the core audience of these movies, preteens and children.
I'm expecting IO3 to be set when Riley is 16 and seriously discovering romantic feelings (new emotion: Libido) and an IO4, if the franchise lasts, being when she's 18 and an adventure in college freshman year, maybe talking about performance-enhancing drugs and relationships for a newly-minted adult. Oh, and Nostalgia will be a big force in IO4, looking back on the relative simplicity of childhood.
Are you going to do anymore marvel movies? I've been watching the others and noticed it stopped after Dr Strange 2. Will you be doing Thor love and Thunder?
Inside Out 2 was one of those sequels that I honestly wasn't looking forward to because of how much respect I had for the original. The first one hit such a personal chord with me that I legitimately didn't believe that a sequel could actually do it justice but not only did it surpass my expectation by an unbelievable margin but I actually ended the movie conflicted about which one was better. The original instantly became my favourite Pixar movie and one of my all time top movies in general and yet the sequel that I pre-emptively considered to be unnecessary wound up actually rivalling it.
Please🙏 react to Andhadhun (Blind tune or Blind melody) it's an Hindi language Indian movie ,you going to love it and don't read synopsis of this movie for the surprise

I struggle sometimes with trying to quiet my mind when I'm trying to sleep as well. What helps me with that is listening to an audiobook while I'm trying to fall asleep. It forces my brain to focus on that instead of my internal thoughts.
Hit the nail right on the head with anxiety making you feel "seen". I just learned a few months ago that there is a name for that. It's scopophobia. Learned it from Super Eyepatch Wolf's video about Social Anxiety Horror, which is definitely worth a watch if you got an hour and a half to kill.
I love that in the first movie, Joy says, "Sadness, Riley NEEDS you", and here Sadness says, "Joy, Riley WANTS you". We need sadness, but we want joy.
I think I've seen you make this comment in several reactions... and I love it each time.
Maya Hawke brought Anxiety to life with her fast talking and ranting from pure Anxiety

That one ripped through me. I wanted to hug her so hard.
One of my teens has a LOT of anxiety. And it's so hard. :/

anger is the closest thing to love you'll find in yourself, you dont get angry if you dont care. anger is born of strong emotions towards something.

I'm not I
I struggle sometimes with trying to quiet my mind when I'm trying to sleep as well. What helps me with that is listening to an audiobook while I'm trying to fall asleep. It forces my brain to focus on that instead of my internal thoughts.
33:27 So, are you supposed to trust your child and be there when they want to tell you their problems or not?
Hit the nail right on the head with anxiety making you feel "seen". I just learned a few months ago that there is a name for that. It's scopophobia. Learned it from Super Eyepatch Wolf's video about Social Anxiety Horror, which is definitely worth a watch if you got an hour and a half to kill.
