Is it possible to listen to this song and not sing it at the top of your lungs? So much emotion and authenticity in every version of this. I remember seeing Boysetsfire headline a show in Boston with Rise Against as one of the opening acts. Early 2000s. It was one of the best shows I've ever been to. Coincidentally I now work in the knife trade.
I keep coming back to this video every few weeks. This song just resonates with me. I've known it for years, but at a certain point in my life it really started meaning something to me. It's like the song has been waiting for me all these years.
+1984rockabilly How exactly is one of the most influential Melodic Hardcore-Bands of all time ever "underrated"? Their Debut, AFTER THE EULOGY and THE MISERY INDEX are landmarks and songs like Empire, My Life In The Knife Trade, Closure or Requiem are major hits. So: how is this band "underrated"? :D
+1984rockabilly The reality is they are underated. For years now. Those who know and love them might not want to say that, I understand that. If you love them, they could never be underated.
+1984rockabilly actually its good the way it is (i guess) they do what they want and love. no fucked up label telling them what to do. or dependency on pleased fans. they are what they are. and i love em for that, since i heard them the first time at the deconstruction tour in herne.
Can't recall how many times this song made me cry. I hope it makes me cry till the day my lungs refuse to breathe air. I love your music. Years of leaning on your knowledge has shaped an intelligent man. You're to thank, Nathan Gray. \m/
Much love to all the people who feel this song. I can only hope that you have over come whatever hardships, struggle's, pain, or guilt that come in the ability to relate to a song as deep as this! ❤ Keep moving forward!
This is so damn good. I played their CDs out in the early 2000s but never got to see them live and never thought to look for a live performance. Until now. Impressed is an understatement
gave to my boys (9 and 7yr old) old usb stick with my old mp3s and this song was there. i said 'listen to this song until you like it'. parenting done right :)
BSF, and this song especially, mean more to me than I could ever put into words. When i first heard them I was going through a period of change in my life, I'm not going to tell a boring and bullshit story about how I stopped drinking etc, because thats simply not true, but they helped me to articulate some feelings I had that I wasnt able to put into words when it came to false friends and bad actors in my chosen family. I hope I get to see them live again.
Been a fan of this song for over a decade and the appreciation has only been strengthened with this great live performance. However I must say my favorite version is still one based on the original song that was posted 8 years ago . Definitely give that a watch if you enjoyed this video, both are great in their own ways.
thats sooo funny, but also so sadly true -- I love this performance and the power within, someadays I really need to watch u and scream with it!! Thanx for giving it to us .. feels great to listen. :)
Listening to this brought a bit of a tear to my eye , not because the song is particularly sad or anything but because boysetsfire sends me back to highschool where I remember getting after the eulogy in the year 2000 I was a freshman and playing that over and over again then in 2003 tomorrow come today came out and these guys were amazing . The sad part comes in thinking about when kids grow up now and go back and listen to the things they did in highschool it's gonna be rubbish like lady gaga and one direction .
Boysetsfire is so fucking amazing band! Why are they so underrated? Were they more popular years ago and people forget about them these days or what? Each of their albums has note 4/5 or higher on allmusic(dot)com. And they're from USA and more known in Germany...? One of the best band, which plays post-hardcore/emo for me.
It´s kins funny....his greyening beard makes him look so old...but his voice is still this voice of the young man who wrote the song.... time didn´t change that..... ..and so the hair on my arms gathered for standing ovations ..
Fuuuck, I miss BSF... Nathan, I hope you're living your best life, and are happy with the Iron Roses, but goddamn, times like these call for another BSF album

Indeed I feel the same, there is a lesson here , and I'm sure many find comfort in this song ;)
Me too. What a song.
Fuck. I'm old now, and these days are just all-but-forgotten memories. Goddamn you, time.
Love how the mother and daughter walk over towards the end and start dancing.
Underrated band and singer. This song and voice touched my heart. Lovely memories to this ^^

they deserve to get more attention internationally

1984rockabilly , I agree. however. for me it became a self fulfilling prophecy. still touches my heart though.
More intense, maybe more honest than the studio version. Great memories, this doesn't get old, ever!
I love in the end at 4:45 how the mother is dancing with her child to the song :D
I keep coming back to this video as a true jewel of music. Such passion and talent - I'm really grateful for these guys.
Great performance. This voice is simply unmistakable. One of my favorite songs of all time.
Nathan holds these vocals down so insanely well.
I think I could listen to him sing this Acapella and be fine.
Beautiful. BSF are some of best songwriters in the genre. Combining different styles in punk/hardcore with a great melodic edge and impacting vocals.
You said it well here......and still is not enough words to describe this band huh. Love these guys!

This is one of my favourite tracks on After the eulogy. Takes me back to being 17 years old! Great performance here Nathan Gray!
love this song , absolutely stunning live performance , Nathans vocals are beautiful
Much love to all the people who feel this song. I can only hope that you have over come whatever hardships, struggle's, pain, or guilt that come in the ability to relate to a song as deep as this! ❤ Keep moving forward!
I am watching this in 2020 and its still inspires me to do my own (humble) acoustic sessions. been listeneing to this exact tune for 7 years now
Great version of this tune, brings back lots of great memories of high school days!
All the worst enemies are somehow always friends that used to be.
This is so damn good. I played their CDs out in the early 2000s but never got to see them live and never thought to look for a live performance. Until now. Impressed is an understatement
i feel always so "alive" when i hear they songs.. so much, power, love, pain, emotions.. ❤ i listen that song 100 times :)

Did you explain what the song means?
You'll see it ten or twenty years later, if your parenting was well done 😏
Amazing rendition of an all time classic.
Simply beautiful. Such passion and delivery. You can feel every beating they've took!
still one of my all time favorite songs. I played it so much back in the day that my mom ended up knowing the chorus =D
This still gives me chills. Love Nathan's solo stuff.
Thank you so much for this song. For many years it has blown me away ❤️

still watching in 2020. love it. so underrated.
Saw them live in 2002 and will never forget that concert
The first proper post hardcore band IMO, they took 90's emo and made it way more furious, paved the way for poison the well etc.
amazing BSF, Nathan..great song
Wow.
I used to think the album version of this song gave me chills. Can't believe the quality of this recording.

Does someone know what song they play in the beginning?
Sounds funny :D
amo essa música.
i love it
Anyone able to tell me what that little diddy they were playing at the beginning is called?
this machine kills fascists.
I want that sticker.
Sad that I could only put it up on my laptop haha. In case of emergency it would be used alike, though!
Remembering Woody Guthrie
Amazing: I'v seen them before splitting twice. 2005/2006 It's scary they become so old, but hey wait so am I....
what song are they playing in the first 10 seconds? seems funny
boysetsfire
Fuuuck, I miss BSF... Nathan, I hope you're living your best life, and are happy with the Iron Roses, but goddamn, times like these call for another BSF album
