    Just coming back here after a few years after being shown by a friend so I can appreciate how many tools this guy has. Think of this every time I look at my exhaust pipe expander.

    Glad to hear it works for you. I purchased one some time ago to expand exhaust pipes and it wasn't strong enough to do the job, as it needed to expand it twice the thickness for the other pipe to fit inside i.e. 3.2mm so I had to return it for a refund. This might work on aluminum or very thin steel pipe.

      I purchased one from amazon. Had a breaker bar and floor jack handle and still could not get any expansion but I got a bunch of metal shavings from the tool

    Bob Burnquist (Mr. Eric)I could have used a cut-off wheel then welded it up, or just bought everything new too. This worked ok. I happened to take this approach. I figured a lot of people didn't know about the pipe expander. Why a person needs a pipe expender is because a pipe gets boogered up, as I show here.

    Thanks for this video of how a pipe expander works. 30 sec of it was very useful. BTW are you related to Peter Griffin? Also, how many tools do you have, exactly?

    Thanks. Couple things. 1) Often on better mufflers the welded on tubing is thicker than the exhaust pipe tubing so it's easier to leave the muffler non-expanded and expand the pipe instead. 2) Usually the preferred way to mate these is the pipe closer to the engine is not expanded and the downstream pipe is expanded. This can result in a little less leakage if it doesn't seal perfectly. Also it is generally easier to leave the old pipe with corrosion the same diameter and expand new, unrusted pipe because it's less likely to fall apart during expansion. Okay, maybe that was 3-4 things. ;)

    Question.... I'm sure I'll catch heat on it but, it is a legitimate question non the less...
    First I noticed the pipe that was within the muffler that was held on to by the vicegrips.... That pipe was beat to hell and back. The muffler was looking a little beaten. Which brings me to my question.
    You had mentioned several times that you've got tools. I mean, you've got tools for days. Is what I'm let to believe. Back to the question. Out of ALL your tools. Instead of choosing a tool fit for the job, i.e. hack-saw, cutting wheel... sawzall... ect.. why only cut it so far then finish it off with a BFH and screwdriver?
    I mean, with that pipe all sorts of gnarly like that... even putting u-bolt I'm more then sure your gonna have an exhaust leak on that end...
    Know even saying that aloud... why not after beating it all to shit, take a hacksaw and give it a clean cut? You know, exhaust being off and all... put it up on the ole work bench... give her a straight edge... ... :/
    I also just thought... while true I do own several pipe expanders and hydraulic bender and a bunch of other tools... if someone... I'm not saying you. Just some random person were to over take a task such as your.... why not just take the easy and quicker route... cut the pipe... head to your local auto store and pick you up a coupling, couple u-bolts and keep it clean, straight and easy... and not take the chance of an exhaust leak....? I'm not at all trying to come off as a dick... just asking... And I guess really.... anyone doing their exhaust... you really dont want to bolt this stuff together... You wanna weld your joints.
    I mean. I don't know.... Thats why I'm watching your video. To learn. So yea. Just asking cause maybe I'll learn something new.

    great video great tool, In the mid 1980,s I modified a Quadra Jet carburetor and put It on a Ford 460 Engine and was getting 25 miles to a gallon and In the late 1980's I was trying got generate My own Electricity and found when I connected a car muffler to a 8 Horse power Generator the muffler got very hot, so I was thinking If It was a catalytic converter I could use the heat for a stream Engine or run It through a radiator and heat the house. My F-150 with a 351 HO and Edelbrock carburetor gets 8 miles to a gallon.

      A screw driver is for driving screws. Does that mean it can never be used for anything else ?? BS...

    • @ivorgraham1908
      @ivorgraham1908 9 років тому

      Correct, glad to see you are learning the purpose of what tools are made for. If you use a screw driver as a tire leaver and you break it, the manufacturer will not replace it.

    • @wigs1098
      @wigs1098 9 років тому +2

      +ivor graham I have this tool and it does expand the pipe so that you can fit it around another one, that is what it is sold for. There are other videos on youtube showing it being used for this purpose to allow two pieces of pipe to be fitted together. That is the main purpose of the tool, the fact that it makes a dented pipe round again is incidental to its main function and in any case in this video he states that he will be using it to allow another pipe to slide easily into the muffler. You can't straighten the pipe back to round without expanding the pipe using this tool because it stretches the metal as it expands it.
