Thank you so much for all your videos! Bonus points for not sugar-coating anything too. I've used your advice to make my first steps into mountaineering from always summer hiking.
Love the vids, they are very informative!! We're planning to do Mount Columbia next year and weighing my options on mountaineering boots. Wondering if you could give your take (vid) on recommendations as well as what you've used in the past for mountaineering boots.
Thank you! I've used these boots while climbing Elbrus and Mt Hood: ua-cam.com/video/Xf7kkSFBsMw/v-deo.html They're more than warm enough and work quite well for wide feet if you have them. If you need double boots, it's hard to go wrong. (They were overkill for Mt Hood btw). I'm waiting on a discount buy the La Sportiva Nepal Evos for mountains like Raineer, Hood, etc: amzn.to/2MsAIJf I have Millet Everest GTX and have used them on Denali: mtntools.com/cat/alpineice/boots/milleteverestboots.htm They're one of the 2 ultimate boots (the other is Olympus Mons), they're crazy warm but they're super heavy and only necessary for extreme mountains. I'm waiting for these to go on sale: mtntools.com/cat/alpineice/boots/lasportivanepalevogtxboots.htm For mountains like Mt. Hood, Mt Rainer, and the like. Thanks for the video idea - Watch for a combo video soon!
I have, use, & like my Kahtoola tall 11" LevaGaiters which weigh only 5.15oz & have 3 major designs features not found on any other gaiters. They don't have the insulation qualities/thickness that your OR gaiters have, however, I'm not out in the extremes that you are going to. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada
I just bought a pair of the OR crocs, moving on from a pair of Sea to Summit Quagmire eVent gaiters which have been not bad. They are wetting out very quickly now though. One thing that bugged me about this OR gaiter was the plastic fastener, for $110 AUD they should really be using a more user friendly, aluminium fastener like the STS model has.
There's an issue with the buckles on the most recent iteration of these gaiters. The new breakable buckles are visibly darker than previous versions. It's a known issue & apparently will be resolved in 2022, but who knows how many gaiters with the lower grade steel are sold or being sold. Good luck everyone with the gaiters & any warranty issues.
Fantastic video I want the crocodile gaiters I like a tight fit I'm size 9 in the UK. I have slim legs what size do you think I should go for... I'm thinking medium... Thank you kindly
@@twowheels833 Hi yes put then in the washing machine inside a old pillow case used grangers 2 in 1 wash and reproofer in my opinion the best thing for outdoor gear.... Gore-tex friendly.... Plus Saves time....
Who knew good gaiters are so expensive, but divide that by how many hikes they last and it seems worth it. I’ll eat pb&j sandwiches and ramen for a week so I can afford these.
I don't think I mentioned the Nez Perce tribe in this video? I looked on the official Nez Perce site - yes, they were partly in Wallowa Co, OR, however their original lands were primarily in Idaho: www.critfc.org/member_tribes_overview/nez-perce-tribe/
I purchased these a few months ago... Worked well with my hiking boots.. However when I bought new boots.. They didn't fit so are now useless... Outdoor research customer service didn't offer any help at all... Be careful.... Basically they want you to buy another pair of gaiters... Which is just ridiculous

Wonderful! Stay safe out there.
Same here awesome advice.
Thank you Sir for the information. I helped me a lot!Regards
Glad it helped
Great video. Are these any good as snake gaiters? Thank you.
Probably not thick enough.
Thanks Aaron! I appreciate this review!
You're welcome!

Wow, thanks for the info!
Any reason why you went with the XL gaiters instead of the Expedition version? Also, OR will replace your gaiters for free because of that fraying.
I used the XL gaiters because we converted them to our custom insulated gaiters. Plus the Large don't fit my Millet Everest and Baruntse boots.
@@ALinsdau So the normal Croc XL fit but the "Expedition Crocodile" don't? ... Are you sure about that?

If your boots are small, the medium would be okay. I'd rather go with large - you can always pinch them down.
@@ALinsdau thank you for your help very much appreciated... I like a snug fit.
Thanks again...
Hi I've bought a pair today got them covered in mud and sand grit etc etc how go you clean them???? What's the best method....
Hose them off and use a nylon brush, then sun dry.

Do gaiters protect you while crossing a creek that’s deep enough your boot is submerged? Just wondering if I’d still need to take off my boots
To clarify- do these gaiters keep you DRY in creek crossings
No, the gaiters don't create waterproof seal. Those would come off with everything else. You'd need hip waders for complete waterproofing.
@@ALinsdau Thanks. I suspected they did not. I ended up getting the Rocky Mountain High Gaiters. Appreciate the video and feedback.
Have you tried the T and K gaiters yet? My friend? You should if you haven’t! And……,.Made in USA!
Nice thanks for the lead.
Are these too hot for summer?
No. They’re good for thorny brush.
Are they still making them the way they did 20years ago, so they will last me 20years?
From what I can see, they're the same. The only fail I've had is tearing off the side strap tabs and breaking a rivet.
Who knew good gaiters are so expensive, but divide that by how many hikes they last and it seems worth it. I’ll eat pb&j sandwiches and ramen for a week so I can afford these.
Mine are many years old and still going.
If you are going to inform people about something you should not lie! The nez perce lived in Wallowa county Oregon.

They come in different sizes for sure. I have several pairs for different boots. If I use the XL ones with my small boots, they'd be way oversized.
That's why I buy from REI great return policy
