As old fart, I've played Fallout 2 when it came up. Forgot and never picked up many events and places. But hyper intelligent mole rat quest was unforgettable.😂😢
One of my favorite things to do in the first Fallout is enlist Dogmeat and play with him until he dies. After which my character becomes bitter and hardened, gruff, and dismisses the rest of his companions.

Hey! I discovered a bug that I haven’t seen anybody else talk about yet. If you are at the castle fighting the crabs with Preston, when he brings out his flamethrower, if you just leave/ fast travel, he will come with you and keep the flamethrower with infinite fuel. Also he doesn’t count as a companion so you are able to also have another actual companion as well, letting you travel with 2 people at once. Sometimes he will switch back to his laser musket, but it will revert back to the flamethrower after he shoots it like once or twice in a battle.
Grognak is a reference to the author Robert E Howard's 'Conan the barbarian' def not a reference to the other two properties you mentioned. I'm a huge pulp/horror/sword and sorcery old school literature(think Poe, lovecraft, Howard, Derleth, William hope Hodgson etc) so I picked up on grognak instantly
My first character I made decided to go with a Deadpool reference and named him Wade Wilson. Was very suprised that Codsworth actually said Mr Wilson. Really gave my character a life of his own like I wanted since this was gonna be the Fallout version of Deadpool......who stole the speed force, a Flash suit, a rapid fire mini nuke launcher.....again speed force so THOUSANDS OF NUKES ON THE SCREEN AT THE SAME TIME MY XBOX WAS ON FIRE, and gained a fire shield....that one wasn't even a mod it just happened awhile I was nukeing Grodd. Also fought Legendary Godzilla.......turns out mini nukes aren't a great thing against a radioactive dinosaur. Mostly died because I ran into a car.
You can wear road leathers to get dogmeat because his previous owner wore them you know who also wore them..... the original mysterious stranger who is in all fallout games dogmeat and the mysterious stranger.....Coincidence! More then likely
So in the Fallout 2 spiral bound user guide journal section states the original Dogmeat died when it triggered a trap force door during the military base raid.
This is making me want 2 mods. #1 return Reavers to what they were. #2 An intelligent Deathclaw follower in a black robe. Not the one from 2 necessarily but one or a group who were experimented on by the Institute and learned from the one from 2 and went on beyond his death to continue trying to earn equality for Deathclaws. Would give new meaning to the bartender in Bunker Hill's joke about joining the Deathclaw preservation society.

The Dogs are all called Dogmeat because Dogs are source of meat. But not shown in Fallout
