Nice, tasty and timely little video that reminds me of Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer for some reason. Great song by Mike Nesmith, I love the element of simultaneous doubt and enjoyment, like being perched on the edge of a swimming pool, unsure whether to dive in or not, but just loving the anticipation of it. Of course I won't fly down to Rio - the World Cup's much better on the telly! x
I had a thought when wondering why Neil Innes covered this particular song . The realised that Mike Nesmith was in The Monkees and they were kind of inspired by The Beatles as were The Rutles . Neil did a lot of Solo work away from The Bonzo Dog Doodah Band and Mike made this song as a solo project . What a wonderful tribute from this multi talented artist .🦆
Prior to this, I think the closest connection between the Monkees and the Rutles was "The Box", starring Michael Palin and Terry Jones and directed by Micky Dolenz. You can find it on UA-cam...
@@KenLieck Thank you I shall have to watch it .
Thanks once again for sharing your thoughts with us Neal. I love the way you view the world through your music. Ah.....No relation to the other Mike N. :(
nice Neil, I shared this link on Mike Nesmiths son, Christians' facebook page. Mike is cool, I like his stuff. Yours too, you wrote all the Rutles songs, theyre funny and your lyrics is too, but the Rutles music the Beatles couldve just as easily written, your music for me is the same standard. Just showing my appreciation. I never suck up arses. Youre in a dichotomy lol
Same standard as the Beatles? Not bad then. Innes is good for you!!
Hugh Terry yeah I think Neils music with the Rutles was very reminiscent of the Beatles, I liked it, Ive got a Rutles cd in the car :)
Hugh Terry I like Mike Nesmiths music a lot too
Yes, very underrated and almost unplayed on UK radio - as is Neil Innes, of course. Ever since the Monkees Mike N's kept a low profile, to say the least. Shame!
lazyis hardwork Little known fact: Mike Nesmith once owned the original home video rights to All You Need Is Cash. From one Pre-fabber to another!
