Jean Shepperd reports the packed throng in Times Square who have come to celebrate the welcoming of the new year of 1973. The ball atop the Allied Chemical Tower descends and Guy Lombardo counts down the last seconds of 1972, and when ball touched the roof the tower, Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians performs the one and only New Year’s hit, Auld Lang Syne.
Note: 1973 Ball Drop footage from the NBC (Now ABC staple) New Year’s Eve program, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve (During this time it was titled “Three Dog Night’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve”).
