ABOUT ME:
- I'm Cambodian and Chinese.
- I was born in November of 1983 (so I'll be 37 this year) and raised in Houston, although my heart lays in between Houston and Hawaii.
- "OG KPOP STAN": I've always used the term "OG" (supposedly "original gangster") to define being old-school, and I became an avid Korean music aka Kpop listener/lover since 1998. Kpop was my coping mechanism from the bullying I experienced in my younger years and it's just stuck by me ever since. Also! Just to be clear: me calling myself an "OG kpop stan" doesn't mean that anyone who's listened to kpop later than me is inferior. A kpop lifestyle is a kpop lifestyle regardless of time.😄
- I was a hiphop dancer for about 7 years. I did the whole crew thing, auditioning thing, competition thing, choreography thing, dance instructor thing, so I have some experience in that field and I hope to be able to share some perspective from my experiences for y'all to see the extra things that I appreciate about a video when I point them out.
-My videos can have quite a lot of cuts in editing and/or my eyes will unnaturally blink rapidly sometimes. This is because of my neurological disease that came with my lupus nephritis (posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome). My thinking abilities and speaking abilities struggle to align at times.
- Yes, that's Jack Sparrow's ring that I always wear in my videos. I've been a Pirates of the Caribbean fan ever since I rode the ride for the first time ever in Disneyland when I was a kid.🤓

Lol I was a little too busy being impressed by Aespa and giving Aespa my undivided attention to notice anything else, like the queen BoA who I’ve followed since she was 13 with her ID; Peace B debut. Don’t worry, I know BoA very well.😅 But my eyes aren’t going to catch EVERYTHING at first glimpse, that’s a side effect of being human.😛

Yeah. No. That drop for the chorus HURT the first time I saw it. XD
I memorized the choreo and i was determined to get the timing and form of the drop right, so yah i had to push away the pain. It was pretty hard at first but after like a few tries i knew how to do it without hurting that much.
The person in the red dress at the end is BoA as she has an upcoming album soon
Vocal wise, they were trained by Boa, Snsd’s Tae Yeon, and Red Velvet’s Wendy.

Aespa has 4 members and 4 AI versions of themselves. They communicate with the irl members through a VR app SM developing rn called SYNK which will be available for the general public too. You can see the capitalised words, kinda like an Ad for this. That was BoA at the end, SM is doing this new SMCU thing where all of their releases will be in a connected universe and teased in other artists videos.

Just like EXO, aespa's debut sets up the whole group concept and storyline. LOL, yeah what a debut, but I wouldn't expect anything less from SM. Remember how epic EXO's and SuperM's debuts were? 😉
If you remember, in SuperM's "One (Monster & Infinity)", in the last scene of the MV we see Taemin with that LG phone and on the phone there is a symbol that appears. At the time, when that MV was released, we had no idea what that meant. However, soon after that, we discovered that the symbol you see on Taemin's phone -- ae -- is actually the logo/symbol for aespa. It now looks as though the end scene in "One (Monster & Infinity)" was meant to be a teaser for aespa's debut. Aespa is a four member girl group whose concept revolves around the fact that their name means "Avatar experience" and each of the girls has an Avatar character, so they also are superhero-like beings. Which makes me pretty confident that SM is working on pulling aespa into SuperM/EXO's storyline and making them part of the whole group concept, just like all of its third gen. and now maybe even 4th gen groups. We will have to wait to see whether aespa joins forces with SuperM or if they end up (joining Red Velvet?) becoming part of the Red Force.
And just like EXO, the members of aespa all have their own powers and symbols that represent them:
💓Karina (Yoo JiMin) is the leader of the group, she is a main dancer and lead rapper: her symbol is a heart and her spirit animal is a whale. She is Korean.
🌕Giselle (Uchinaga Aeri) is the main rapper and a vocalist: her symbol is the moon and her spirit animal is a unicorn. She is Japanese.
⭐Winter (Kim MinJeong) is a lead dancer, lead vocalist and the visual of the group: her symbol is a star and her spirit animal is a Siberian Husky dog. She is Korean
🦋NingNing (Níng Yìzhuo) is the maknae and the main vocalist: her symbol is a butterfly and her spirit animal is a tiger. She is Chinese.
Fun fact: Yoo JiMin (Karina) was also a backup dancer in Taemin's "Want" MV and she even performed as a backup dancer for live performances of "Want."
So, if you pay attention to the lyrics in "Black Mamba" you will see that it is telling aespa's story. The Black Mamba they refer to in the song is a dark force that stops them from connecting to their avatars. As the lyrics say, they "synk out," etc. and you see all the glitches happening. The aspea members are trying to overcome the Black Mamba and connect with their avatars again. You really have to pay attention to the lyrics to understand the story they are telling.
The way I see it is there are two dimensions: aespa in the real world and their avatars (Kwangya) world. Aespa are connected to their avatars and everything the aespa members do in real life gives power to their avatars. However, because of the Black Mamba's temptation, aespa and their avatars cannot connect through the SYNK app anymore, so their avatars become lost. You see Ningning as she is searching through the Kwangya world on her computer trying to find their avatars. Ningning and the other members are wandering through the avatar Kwangya realm. But there seems to be some sort of crossover between realms as well. For example, in the train scene, aespa in the real world is also being overcome by the Black Mamba. Their world seems to be in ruins or being destroyed. In the last scene, the avatars seem to be drawn into aespa's real world and I think this is really the start of aespa's whole story. This is where they establish the fact that aspea, from now on, probably, will be spending a majority of their storyline fighting the Black Mamba alongside their avatars. And somehow along the way, SM will probably start to connect the story with all its other groups' storylines.
We will just have to wait to see how SM connects the dots and draws the storylines together. But I have a feeling that, eventually, aespa's story will connect to SuperM's story, and along the way also EXO, NCT and Red Velvet's storyline, and maybe even Taemin's solo work and even maybe SHINee. Just another one of SM's epic concepts and mysteries that we will have to wait and see, where it takes us.

I really enjoy aespa's debut, and your reaction :) ! i like the song so much more than i thought i would. it's just so exciting. i think the only thing that kinda worries about the group is that they are SO young. During an age of such massive development (like that transition of youth to young-adulthood), i'm worried that they'll be pushed to the brink. kpop in general encourages their performers to maintain such extremely slender looks, they must look "perfect" as they move through their daily lives.... And to be so young and backed by a huge entertainment company? it's immense pressure. i pray that the girls' health will be properly supported-- both of their physical and mental health. Karina (who is the one that caught your eye the most during your reaction!) seems very charming, and i also cant help but find her a little similar to CLC's Yujin. Sweet but very fierce vibes.
They are literally one of those groups that have much older members compared to 99.99% of other kpop girls groups. Oldest was born in 2000 and youngest was born in 2002. Compared to other groups where youngest is already 2004/05 liners.
Strong vocals, because they are from SM. SM known to be the vocal experts, they trained their Artist very hard.
Visuals? No questions. All SM Artist are gorgeous.
Karina their center is the dancing machine of the group, she can sing and rap too.
Gissele is the rapper, ningning is the lead vocalist and winter the ACE of the group. Can sing and dance.
Ningning is Main vocal and Winter is Lead. I think Giselle could be lead too. She has nice tone and technique but I'm still waiting for hearing her rapping. I think I will die.
