When I spent 3 months in Catania, I actually fell the first night in my flat, don't know how. I gave myself a black eye. I went to the Pescheria to buy food and the first thing the veggie guy said to me is, "What happened, your husband didn't do that did he?" I told him I didn't have a husband and that I fell in a freak accident. He was visibly relieved. This from a total stranger who was concerned for my safety and NO, HE WAS NOT HITTING ON ME!

A bit of an eye-opener this one. I thought the Dutch were the only ones interested in talking about the weather. We rather specialize in boring each other on the multiple conditions of rain. Well, we used to, climate change has made the conversations somewhat dryer and more heated. So ... Italians don't talk about la dolce vita all the time ... I wouldn't have guessed without this clip ....

    • @andresduques2013

    - Miss, given the situation I find myself forced to an unconventional approach: since, no matter how hard I try, at this moment I can't think of a decent topic to start our conversation, she couldn't suggest it to me, so as to save both of us a minute of awkward silence?

  • @titteryenot4524

@7:15 Our two lovely presenters subscribe to the Matching Hypothesis theory of attraction. That is, we tend to look for partners whom we consider our equal in terms of attractiveness if we were to be rated objectively by others. I have noticed, only anecdotally, but it’s common enough to mention it, that nearly almost always the whole theory rests on the nose. For some reason, humans seek, as a rule, in a romantic other one with a similar nose to ours, whether one consciously knows (pun intended) or not. Ideally, people seem to seek, essentially, the male/female (assuming heterosexuality) version of oneself physically, or as close as, when seeking romantic partners. Of course, there are always exceptions to this; these usually prevail when strong other factors obtain to outpower, to coin a word, the basic law of attraction. Easy example, for UK-based people, of this would be: “But what first, Debbie, attracted you to the millionaire Paul Daniels?”; Debbie being a pert young thing and Paul resembling an old, wizened, bas*tard offspring of E.T. The nose has it, usually, when it comes to the Matching Hypothesis .

Come stanno i ragazzi?". Se invece mi trovo su un ascensore casuale, magari in un grande magazzino o in hotel, opterei per un "Buongiorno" seguito da silenzio. Per evitare imbarazzi è meglio prendere l'ascensore successivo :-)

Keep watching to videos, not just reading. My total immersion Hebrew teacher told us to "listen to the music" of the language. That, is inflection, tempo, rhythm as well as pronunciation. When you watch videos, and these are some of the best on UA-cam, watch their mouths and then imitate the movement. It will help with pronunciation and the rest. It has nothing to do with age. I'm almost 76 and have excellent hearing for sound but I have a word discrimination problem. Sometimes I have to have someone spell a word yet, I'm becoming conversational in two languages, Italian and Hebrew because I don't live in the US. I was thinking about a situation I was in back in 2020 in Germany and suddenly the proper German I could have used, but didn't think of came to mind. I surprised myself remembering that much German from when I lived there 52 years ago.
