    Sometimes when I read fantasy novels, I think to myself "this is unrealistic and outright stupid! What moron would possibly think this is a good idea!?!" then I look back to events in our own history like the Fourth Crusade, where Crusaders, attempting to reclaim the Holy Land from the Saracens somehow manage to sack the City of Constantinople and throw their only eastern ally into a state of destitution that they would never recover from...

      The Komenenos weren't exactly allies of the western kingdoms though. Do some more research and you'll find out that the Sack was actually a direct result of shitty Byzantine power plays. Not saying the 4th Crusade was in any way a good move, but there's a decent amount of necessary historical context behind it to understand that it was more so than just "WOW BIG DUMB VENETIANS"

      @ReonMagnum 2 роки тому +54

      @@DoctorLifeMD Both the Byzantines and the Crusaders were at fault. The Massacre of the Latins in Constantinople deeply soured the relations of East and West, and was used as justification in the Fourth Crusade to sack the city (and also after being tricked by the new emperor who had no money).
      However due to the actions of the Crusaders, the Christian wall that was they Byzantine Empire was greatly weakened and eventually led to the Ottoman Turks to capture Constantinople. Europe was dangerously close to being conquered by Islamic forces, and only at Vienna in 1683 were they finally beaten.
      tldr: The Fourth Crusade was still a f***ing mistake.

    Sailing towards Brindisi from Constantinople, early May 1204.
    It wasn't supposed to happen this way. It was a crusade, for God's sake! Jerusalem was the goal, but it wasn't. The Venetians, thrice be damned, in exchange for funding for the campaign convinced us to make a detour. "After all, the Basileus promised to pay us what was due", they said.
    And we marched on to THE CITY, Pearl among Cities. A little more than a month and two major attacks delayed the siege. We no longer held out hope that the Basileus, cowardly scoundrel, would pay us. So the city paid. In gold and blood.
    He was nobody special. Just a third son of a minor nobleman in Burgundy. He would not receive any inheritance, nor was he destined for the clergy.. The promise of glory and redemption of the Crusade was simply irresistible. He dreamed of contemplate the Holy Land and liberating Jerusalem of the Muslim hand. To re-establish legitimate Christian authority over the Holy City. It was not to end like this: First Zara, a city sacked on behalf of the Venetians, and then Constantinople. The motto Deus Vult used for this. It would be laughable if it were not so tragic.
    Remembering the burning city, the soldier of the cross looked up at the evening sky and asked himself:
    -Still feel like a hero, Gisbourne?
    An attempt at a snippet inspired by the video. I hope you like it.

      In fact, it was largely because of this that the Crusades failed miserably in a general context, greed and pride. And to think that Godfrey of Bouillon refused to be called King and wear a golden crown in 1099...

      I think YT deleted my other comment because I can't see it anymore but yes, absolutely. It serves no good purpose nor does it grant any benefit whatsoever. Everyone who views it is an addict or will become addicted, it's like cocaine (which has similar effects on the brain) and it is nearly impossible to quit once addicted. It perverts the mind and turns people into pedos, gomorrites (because the play button stasi doesn't like the other word), animal screwers, adulterers and other such things due to how it corrupts your neuron wiring and the pleasure chemical seeking process which gets fried and requires more and more taboo and exotic material to achieve gratification over time. Most of the sexual crimes we're dealing with in society stem not only from the acceptance of p0rn but fornication, cohabitation, and vulgarity in general. All these things can be gotten rid of if those in power have the will to do so, but they don't so we must
      A. Spread this will, especially to those in power and
      B. Take power.
      It is anti-human to claim that p0rn should be accepted as all of the consequences of its acceptance I listed (and didn't list) are antithetical to human prosperity and human society.
      Everyone wants to normalize heathen behavior and be hedonists then complain when they reap the consequences of doing so.
