100% what I've found with my A1, got it originally as a hybrid solution, but the video capabilities are so good, its become my main video camera too. Would love to see this sensor on an FX9/6 mk ii

Sony A1 is considered the number one camera, all in one! While there is no equal among competitors, this is a fact!
love my A1 100% but I wouldn't trade in my FX6 for another A1 i love how they work together and can also stand on there own in different situations with no problems. Nice video

Does 8k have clear image zoom? I want to use E-mount anamorphic lenses but I know it's going to have that vignette.
8k mode does not have clear image zoom or active stabilization
Great video and insight. When A1 will have 8k raw output via HDMI, will be hard to beat.

Hey austin, it’s interesting to hear you going from mirrorless body to cinema and back to mirrorless. Could you expand the discussion about that in a video and cover topics about thoughts prior going into a cinema body and then returning to a non cinema body?

isn't the sony a1 not ideal for video compared to the fx9 because it has digital sharpness?
thats one thing ive noticed that separates the sony a7siii to the fx6, is that digital sharpness in the mirrorless cams
I agree that I prefer having as raw of a readout as possible from the sensor. Cine EI s-log 3 on the FX9 was so, so nice to work with. The a1, although my experience is brief, I believe can achieve a similar look to the FX9. I haven't fully achieved the secret formula in Picture profile settings, but PP8 looks great to my eyes currently.

Is it true the a1 is able to record video while it is clearing the buffer from taking photos?? I know my Sony a7iii has to wait until buffer is clear to start recording video.
Do you use an I/O box like AJA IO 4k or Blackmagic Ultrastudio 4k, or I/O card?
Your fx9 didn’t last long.. it’s still a better ergonomic for shooting handheld commercial look.
You can’t reshoot video, especially a wedding. There may not be commonly available 8k monitors now, but one day there is. Same as the case with 4K which is commonplace now.
Is there a high ISO that the A1 performs better at like other Sony FX cameras? The low ISO clips look great, but I am seeing a lot a noise above ISO 5000, so I am hoping there is a high ISO where it produces cleaner video like other Sony cameras.
You got skillz. Looks great. Question for you. Have you used PP11 and if so what is the acceptable ISO limit in your opinion? I’m still trying to figure that out.
P.S. You said native gain was at ISO 4000 and 800. I assume you meant for s log3 only. For s cinetone it’s 640, right? I’m pretty sure it’s 2-1/3 stops above base ISO for the A1.
So…
100 and 500 for no picture profile.
125 and 640 for s cinetone.
800 and 4000 for s log3.
Correct?

just came across the video! Thanks for such great information. As a sony shooter and looking to purchase the A1 my concern is the quality of the 4k footage - full frame. I get the oversampled super 35 4k is gorgeous but would you say the FF 4k is good enough to stand on it's own. Curious as to how it'll match against my fx3 and fx6. Would I be better off just shooting it in super35 than FF at 4k? Thanks so much!
It's much better with detail and dynamic range than the fx3/fx6. I used to own the a7siii and sold it for the a1, the quality is a super noticeable jump.
Any issues with overheating in 8k?
maybe this is my cinema camera bias bleeding thru, but I can't help but feel that (for the money) the FX6 is still at the top in terms of video king for Sony because of the video specific features and ergonomics. The A1 is beast but in my mind it will always be a hybrid camera and not a video camera
I agree. I wouldn’t even consider the Sony a1 on a project. 8k video is nice and all but to me 10 bit and higher is king. Sony has always focused on resolution and frame rates which is why I don’t shoot on them anymore. I much rather a large dynamic range maybe some slow motion.
@@CalumDavies I shoot with an FX6 and typically record to an Atomos in Prores. Can't imagine trying to rig a mirrorless body along with ND and diffusion filters for a documentary shoot let alone trying to deal with external audio preamps lol
@@makosports Can't use a top handle if you want to use the digital hot shoe to connect the xlr module
@@CalumDavies I mean, the bottom line for me is that the a1 is going to make our production company more money than the FX9. Are there sacrifices? Sure, absolutely. But I do strongly believe that the a1 is more useful than the fx3, fx6, and a7siii photo features aside even.
I do love me some shutter angle, DCI, dead on 24, XLR, SDI, Vari ND, etc but I think for my business those are ancillary, narrow use cases.
