Parisian was a store between competitors of Rich's, Jcpenney, Sears and Pizitz/McRaes Birmingham had locations in Vestavia, Eastwood mall, Five Points West, Riverchase Galleria (the one with the black and white architectural building in the background) Western Hills mall, and Brook Highland
I worked through college at store 34 (West Town Mall) in Knoxville. It was a wonderful place to work. I made the store announcements, and I can still remember ending every announcement with ‘exclusively at Parisian…where you’re always somebody special!’
When I go to a Belk location today I can’t help but long for the Parisian. You never had to hunt and employee down, they made sure that the stores were not cluttered or jammed packed. I looked forward to Parisian Bargain Days like it was a holiday.
@@EricCProductions76 My grandmother was a department manager at Parisian. They required employees to dress professionally and up to date. Some Belk employees look like they are coming to work from a sporting event.
Parisian was a step up from Macys. I was sad to see their stores be turned to Belk. I believe their first store was at Phipps Plaza in 1992, not at Town Center in Atlanta.
Very interesting. It was a very well run chain prior to being acquired by Proffits/Saks. I think a few details were incorrect as they did expand to Atlanta until 1992 at Town Center at Cobb. Their first out of state stores were in Pensacola and later the Hooker store in Cincinnati at the mall they developed and then Sarasota. Michigan came after Hooker sold them to back to The Hess family.
The Hess family ran Parisian extremely well. Although when it was its own unique company. Things changed afterwards even though I believe Donald Hess was involved still.
They were all of Georgia at Macon Mall, Mall at Stonecrest, Gwinnett Place Mall, Northpoint, Town Center Cobb and Phipps Plaza. Belk pretty much destroyed them.
