Absolutely amazing. As a traditional recurve and English long bow archer, living in west, I had to learn about my ancestors shooting techniques from you. Thank you.

interesting. i've been using a self-developed draw for quite a while and have never seen it in use anywhere else until now. i'm basically doing number 2 but the pinky is behind the string out of the way. i also have a higher wrist which makes the wrist-forearm angle more flat. this put the 2 fingers across the string at an angle instead of perpendicular but this doesn't seem to hurt arrow flight.
i came to doing this from experimentation when i first started archery using fletchless arrows with very shallow self knocks that don't grip the string. i get a really straight launch like this even shooting what amounts to a pointy stick. i tired it of the thumb too, and the arrows just went hard right.

1:38 With that third method since your thumb isn't occupied you should try using it to hold extra arrows. I know that that version, according to Saracen Archery, the thumb doesn't effect the draw. However yes there's the alternate version I've read about where you've got the thumb on the string underneath two fingers with the forefinger over the arrow. So yeah nice job showing variety.

On the original image there is something visible just below the index finger. It seems to me it's the thumb. So, probably the 2nd version.

I infer the 2nd or 3rd method is truth because the back of hand has the rope, its like a finger tab for middle & ring fingers, and 2nd way is better for non-nock arrow.

They call the first one, khosrawani. Or zah keshe khosrawani. Because it was the method of king khosrow the first or khosrow anoushiravan, so it comes frome his name. You can see this method on the Sassanid plates.

Late to the party, but I'm going with #2, since that seems to match the picture. You can see the thumb in the picture.

The thumb version intrigues me most. Is that a Grózer Hungarian Bow of the Middle Ages?

I have just about give up on the thumb and Slavic draw. No matter what I do the arrow goes wide right. Luckily I have no problem shooting the Mediterranean draw on short bows. I just got in 3 Tiny Turkish Bows from Arif Budiman. They are only 33 inches string length. Somehow he has hit on a formula that allows these little bows to draw 28 inches. They do stack some past 26 inches but, 26 is my draw.

I looked at that bow at Armin's channel. It's really tiny and the angle is very sharp. If you don't have a problem with a Mediterranean draw with that short bow, I'd focus on it now and enjoy shooting. I use about eight ways to draw the bow. From 30m mostly only a Mediterranean draw. I haven't tested other methods much at greater distances. I'll try. I shoot instinctively on the right side, I don't aim along the arrow. I only focus on the target. Enjoy the shooting, my friend.

@@archeryboras5921 Well, Tex my Arabic is.....a bit rusty. I appreciate you sending this link though. In my mind Mediterranean is just more accurate. So, if you can get a smooth release that way. What would be the downside?..Maybe slower loading?

Hi! I'm a French historian working on Roman/Persian warfare. I find your video very interesting and I would like to share with you some documents on ancient Persian archery. I think it will help you determine which "lock" is the good one. Give me your email address and I will send you everything. Cheers, MP

Archery Boras . I already shoot the 3 one which is the Slavic style but I also tried 1 & 2 I like those as well except for number 1 the string really slaps the middle finger. Take care my friend and God bless. 👍🏼🏹🇺🇸

Thanks for the feedback. The middle finger? I used a 35 lbs bow and arrows with plastic feathers. I didn't notice any problems with the release. The flight of the arrow in the video is not perfect. I'll try with other arrows, or I'll try to work on shooting techniques. Take care my friend. ua-cam.com/video/oOjxk8-kmOA/v-deo.html
