I was acutally doing something similar today but with a a router and for some reason I cant really fatom I kept on getting "Reply from desitination host unreachable"..
but I get to understand from your explanation that windows block icmp packet and will love to know how to resolve this... thanks

I have a off grid CCTV system that I would like to broadcast the cameras signal over (I believe) a Local Area Network.
Right now all 4 cameras connect to a DVR and can be viewed at the monitor in the control room. I am wondering if I could somehow broadcast that same signal to a router that a cell/phone laptop across the building could pickup?
Absolutely. If I were you Id look into installing some Ubiquity Access Points to extend your wireless signal. Also look into Ubiquity Nanostation wireless bridges.
@@ltnlabs Thankyou for the fast response, I was just on Ubiquity's website the other day for a different reason (Point to Point) I am trying to broadcast the internet access from the main building to new outbuilding (where the CCTV system is) so the customer would not have to open another account with his internet service.
I find this technology so interesting, I do not deal with this enough to retain the information so I am grateful for your teaching style and your willingness to share information.
@@markrankin3297 you are on the right track. Ive used Ubiquity’s products for that exact thing. Its surprising how much distance the signal is broadcasted using their Nanostations. No problem at all! I love teaching and sharing knowledge.
@@ltnlabs Follow up, I plugged the network cat5 wire into the DVR's network outlet, then plugged the other end into a wireless router. I was able to log into the wireless router with my cell phone but that was as far as I could get. I am in the dark as to what to do next. Keep in mind there is no internet access at this location for the time being. Any suggestions?

Thank you. Yes there is! You can create a Wireless LAN using a home router or wireless access point. You are probably connected to a wireless LAN now.

@@mannaiazza2502 First check and see if your home router has VPN capabilities. You can do this by going to command prompt on a Windows computer and typing the command "ipconfig". The IP address you are looking for is the "Default Gateway". Youll type that Default Gateway address in a browser and login to the router. You can then look for VPN. Sir, In my office we share program in the local network using Internet Explorer at port 2000. Will I be able use this program if I change my ISP to T-mobile 5G. Right now we are using ATT DSL.

Yes you should be able to but be mindful that the ip addresses of the devices in the office may change.

Thank you very much for this video but i need assistance, i have been using wireless network, but now i want to build a LAN with 70 computers both Desktop and Laptops, so what and what do i need, i already have a router and range extender
It will depend on the space you are working in. Id recommend purchasing at least 2 48 port switches and a spool of CAT 7 cable. Does the building already have structured cabling in place? Feel free to join the discord and we can talk about this in more depth.
No structured cable, we were using wireless but now want wired
Am trying to connect 4 Pcs to similar switch using that method but I've failed. All four are on Windows
Make sure each of them has an IP address in the same network but don't duplicate IP addresses. Also keep in mind that the Windows Defender firewall blocks ICMP by default :).
Can we connect two systems directly together with the ethernet cable without switches or routers?
Yes, but that is not a best practice.
Yes but a special type of ethernet cable called crossover cable is needed. The physical wires inside the cable is connected in a different manner which allows hosts to network directly.
@irfanuddin2498 With Auto-MDIX these days, two(2) MDI devices interconnected wouldn't require a CrossOver cable anymore.
Hi! Question: how do these devices actually communicate with each other once connected to the switch? In this scenario, you know the IP address of the computer.
But what if this is in a larger organization?… for example: how would “Bob” know how to send data to “John” without knowing his IP or MAC?
Great question. Thats where DNS comes in to resolve hostnames to IP addresses. You would also have routers in place to route traffic between different subnetworks. I discuss these later in the course

Yes you can! Keep in mind if those devices are running Windows you’ll need to add an exception to the firewall allowing icmp in or temporarily disable the firewall.

What is the importance of setting up a LAN when you can just buy a modem and connect wirelessly to your computer and also wirelessly connect to your printer and other devices ?
In medium size to large companies its important to understand the ins and outs of the network to support, administer and actively secure it. I believe its a useful learning experience to start at home.

You can use a wireless network or get a larger switch. They make 48 port switches. You may also want to call a contractor to get cabling run if this is in a business setting.
But i prefer using cross cable if it just 2 pc
Understood but most organizations will use a switch to physically connect all the devices on their networks 😁

Your videos are SUPERB! I like how you think of everything, even small details such as setting the notebook to go to sleep so that you can point out that detail about the switch light turning off, or some machines not having Ethernet ports but needing the USB to Ethernet adapter... the list goes on! You also have a lot of practice explaining things as simply as possible. At least I assume it's practice, but you could also have a natural talent for that. I've found your videos by searching for this specific topic, and I can see it also has a lot of hits. If I were you, I'd check out some of the most viewed videos on other tech channels and do my own video on them. A lot of people search for a solution to a very specific problem, and there are some videos which do a very good job of explaining the solution, which is why they have so many views. I'm sure you could do a much better job than most (or probably even ALL) of them, and the people who stumble onto your channel by looking at those videos would start browsing your other content. Just a thought though. I'd love to see your channel thrive! :)
