@Julian Mitchell i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process now. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Good job NICE RATCHET! - I would recommend to everyone that you leave the fill plug open while the engine is on. Fluid will return back out the fill when it’s shut off, so you should screw the fill plug on when the engine is at temp and the gears gone through. Also- I recommend removing the fill plug first. If you can’t get this off, then having a pan without fluid is a different kind of problem. When you remove he fill plug first, you will have fluid drain out - this is the fluid that would otherwise be in the system if the car were running mentioned in my first comment above.
You did a great job. But the bummer is the T-27 Torx pan screws. Strip one and it's a bad day. Heat did not work, and as a do it your selfer having a lift is not happening. One cannot hit an impact with a hammer swing under on the back. Maybe point this out.
Good video thanks my question is after you get to 40 Celsius do you leave your car running or shut it off and then check fluid or do you leave car running and check the fluid while it's running thank you
Hi Kyle Grunert this was my car and we ended up adding around 4.5 qts basically fill it until it drips out screw the plug in. Run it through the gears check fluid level and add until dropping out again once up to temp.
TIMOTHY MBURU I put 6 quarts in mine and am getting P0730... Most say low fluid, is it really 9? I left it in reverse when I filled it cause I read it holds the most fluid (extra qt)
My friend used permatex gasket sealer between the pan and the gasket, even when I specifically told him not to, and it’s causing it to slowly leak out due to the fact that now it’s not sealed properly with a completely smooth and even surface.. 😳 now I must re-do it entirely....
I have a 2014 TDI SEL Passat. It has foughly 45k on it. I'm about to change the transmission fluid and do the engine and cabin air filters. The dealership wanted to charge my old lady $650 for that! No Sir!
I can appreciate your video , however, you have done this procedure somewhat incorrectly !! First of all !! Everyone who may do this needs to make sure they specifically make sure that both of the drain and fill plugs are loosened first , this is most important because if they fill plug can not be loosened then you have created a massive issue to where you will not be able to fill the fluid back up inside the trans pan !! Always and I mean ALWAYS CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOUR FILL PLUG LOOSENS FIRST!! Not the drain plug , drain plug don’t matter if the fill plug can’t be removed to fill it up !
You're very descriptive etc etc but all your videos have codes names numbers digits all this stuff of what types of transmissions. The general person does not know all that information. You should state year make models that your service applies to
I'm having transmission trouble atm. 02 passat, I had symptoms of what felt like low trans fluid, 3rd gear always shifted quickly. Today my wife took the car to work ok, went to leave and 1st gear is feels like the ebrake is on.If anyone knows what's going on, please reply I'm dying over here lol
@@newagepreipo2870 no. I had to back off from it because of moving and my incoming 1st child lol. The car is flawless in terms of driving other than this. My experience: The car was having the radiator replaced n I bought it after it was fixed. Bought the car in Philadelphia (1.5hr drive) and was able to drive it home twice from Philadelphia, loved the car. Drove it for about 3 weeks. Noticed the quick 3rd gear shift but it still drove fine. When the issue occurred I was told by someone it could be a blocked screen or filter after the radiator was take out. Maybe low fluid? Maybe the 3rd gear issue put me into limp mode (excessive clutch slippage code). Or maybe the trans fluid is low. Otherwise idk If I can get someone to fix it I'm willing to pay, but it seems everyone is going straight to replace the trans $2,000-$4,000.
@@newagepreipo2870 my Passat did the same thing. And a week or 2 later it went limp. It's crazy how your experience is similar. I'm going to try getting mine worked on this month (June) will post if I find the culprit
In your video you didn't even show the car or state the car that you were working on you just described the transmission no video of the car itself other than underneath
i have noticed man people dont wear gloves while working on their vehicles.. Is that a thing? Do they get a better feel for things that way? Cause I always wear gloves even for minor repairs. And never felt it restrict anything.
It's an American thing, I'm not sure why. I'm from America, but I dont agree with the dirty mechanic mentality that seems to garner respect, I'd rather wear some disposable latex gloves then get transmission fluid on my hands and needlessly dirty up a rag to wipe my hand.
Also another wrong method , when running through the gears after changing any transmission fluid you should always leave it in each gear for 10 seconds at least or even more !! This is bad practice to just go through gears so fast !! Leave it in reverse for 10 seconds , drive 10 seconds and so forth , you are not allowing the fluid to circulate enough
The problem with this procedure is that you have only changed the amount of fluid in the pan, which may be as little as 20 - 25% of the total. The torque converter etc will still contain old dirty fluid. The reason for this (and why there is no dip stick for the auto) is that the manufacturer wants you to dispose of the car once it has done over 100,000km or so and buy a new one. There is a way to change all of the oil and it is disappointing that most "professionals" including this one do not employ it.
There is roughly 6 liters in the pan/filter and 2-3 in the converter. If you want to make sure to get most of the fluid out, you can do this pan drop procedure, and replace approximately 65% of the fluid and a few weeks later change the oil one more time WITHOUT dropping the pan... This way you will have almost 90% new fluid overall. My math may be wrong though :)
If you want it done properly, take it to a dealer or trans shop and have the fluid flushed. That way, all the old fluid, even in the converter, is removed. On higher mileage vehicles, a trans flush is highly discouraged. However, a pan drop, or drain and fill is acceptable on vehicles without shifting issues. As far as VW, wanting buyers to get a new car every 100k, that may be true from a sales perspective, but considering the millions of VW's on the road with over 200k, that's not likely.
Never done this and I was amazed at how detailed and clear your instructions were! Thank you for taking the time to teach us this procedure!
very poor example as it even checked the temp of the metal pan, not the actual sensor value lol
This video is a lifesaver I have been racking my brain over this project and having this as a guide will help me.

It's a gasket and is usually included when you purchase the replacement filter.

its a big torque bit in the pan. stick your finger in the hole and feel around. if you dont feel any ATF, you need to add some
