  • In this video I show you how I have set about making my own ‘leaky hose’ using LDPE pipe (Low Density Polyethylene pipe) I bought manufacture leaky hose but it was most unsatisfactory. I think that it was made from ground up car tyres but the amount of leakage along the length of pipe was very variable leaving some bits of the flower beds bone dry whist saturating other parts. With my home-made leaky hose, I get a uniform distribution of water. With any low flow-low low-pressure system I have found it to be very critical that all the hose is horizontal at the same level, it not water will simply gravitate the lower levels. I have multiple hoses fed from a timer and I have a valve to regulate the flow of each bed. The beds can be at different heights if you use the valve on each bed to adjust the flow. Obviously increasing or decreasing the flow to one bed will affect others that are fed by the same supply and you must balance out each valve to get the required result but I’d say that you will not be disappointed with the final result. As I say in the video, I have found it advantages to feed both ends of the perforated hose. If you don’t feed both ends you will see a noticeable difference in outlet along the hose. Kind Regards . . . Andy

Hi thank you for looking in. We bought the leaky hose with great expectations of it working well but this homemade system is so much better. I really hope that folks take notice of this video as it'll save them a lot of hassle.
      All the best . . . Andy

Basically you make a low cost drip irrigation system, and the cheap hose is doing well.

Try placing the holes towards the bottom, perhaps. That might make it perform better in less than perfectly flat areas.

Hey Andy, very interesting and the grounds look great. Great information also. Do you make house calls?

Hi Rick, sorry no house calls unless you pay all expenses and a very good hourly rate in advance, TAX's paid .
As you may have noticed I have got into jewellery making (you spell it differently on your side of the pond) and there are some fantastic tools available to the jewellers that I have never seen before. I've just bought a jewellers flexy drive drill, the motor hangs up in the air, and you have a little hand piece to hold the drills or burrs or polishing mops etc. It's a joy to use and would be wonderful for PCB work or any fine drilling hobby work. The drill/flexy drive unit is not cheap $$££$$!!! but I whish I had got one 50 years ago.
Keep on having fun and stay on the right side of the turf.
73's . . . Andy (I just realised I now have 73 turns on the coil!! oh many where does the time go??)

@@AndyDaviesByTheSea Hey Andy, I wonder if you can get a loan for lawn care??
Yes I have seen your videos about jewellery making, I found them very interesting. What a great way to exercise your creativity and imagination. At the end of a project you something nice to show for it, and you get to buy new tools, and it’s fun.
I’m work on a video on my Atwater Kent 10 bread board 1923 TRF radio. Yes it is 100 years old. I plan on going through the circuit and explain the signal flow and audio detection. I’m working on the schematic now.
Tomorrow I’m taking care of my friend’s dogs. Dave and Star are going out for a few hours so that Dave can get a linear amplifier. He has been in Amateur Radio many years. I may make a video on this also.
I have traveled around the Sun 77 times.
      Best regards Rick.

Hi Rick I don’t know how we ever had time to go to work. I know making the UA-cam videos takes so much time. Ok on the radio, it’s nice to keep the old things running, I hope they can do the same for me. Some new cans and a quick rubdown with the Basso, and maybe a new memory module would save my legs. All the very best to you mu friend . . .Regards . . . Andy @@AllAmericanFiveRadio

@@AndyDaviesByTheSea Andy, correct “I don’t know how we ever had time to go to work”. Friday was fun taking care of the puppies, Star and Dave got back to late to do a video. Saturday I got a call from a friend asking to meet at the flea market. This friend has seven doctorates, one from Oxford, DR Richard Cox. We also had a nice lunch, and Richard was very amused by my 1935 Orson Welles Ring Tone, “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?… The Shadow knows!”. Now its Sunday back and to the video.
      Regards Rick.
