The Parting Glass - Remington Steele

- Mainly a tribute to the character of Daniel Chalmers on Remington Steele, wonderfully played by Efrem Zimbalist Jr., this video is really divided into three parts (and 3 different versions of this classic Irish tune). The first part is Steele remembering Daniel, the second is the "big reveal" in Season 5 about Steele's father, and the third is mostly from Laura's POV. The last part was also a small attempt on my part to "fix" some of the things that were terribly wrong w/Season 5 by using one of the few good things Season 5 gave us.
I also have to say that this video was inspired after I watched the Season premier of "The Walking Dead" - yes, I know what you're thinking: "How does a show about a zombie apocalypse lead to this Remington Steele video?" Well, I enjoy the character arcs on that show, and a couple of the characters sang "The Parting Glass" in the season premier. Then I got to thinking about how PB sung the song in Evelyn and started coming together from there.
I know it's a bit on the longish side (as is this disclaimer), but I hope you enjoy it anyway! I just really wanted to tell a story through these 3 very different versions of the song.

Just had to watch this again with the news of Efrem's death (May 2, 2014). Such a great video! A wonderful tribute to Daniel, and now, bittersweet because of Efrem's passing.
Yea, I was sorry to hear about that (I've been out of the loop a bit). Efrem deserves so much more, but i hope when people see this vid now it serves as a small tribute to him and his fine work on Remington Steele as "Daniel Chalmers", which I think he said was one of his favorite roles to play (thanks in no small part that he was acting with his daughter :) ).

Glad you enjoyed it. The saving grace of season 5, IMHO, was the big reveal that Daniel was Steele's father. I always loved Daniel and was happy that Steele finally found his father, although it was a bit too late. When I heard the song I knew it would have to be about Daniel, but through the eyes of Remington and Laura. While I was worried about the length of it, I think the 3 different versions of the song worked out well in the end. Thank you for the feedback, as always-Keeps me motivated :)

Thanks! I found some clips of Efrem from the TV show "The FBI" and from the movie "The Chapman Report" that seemed to work well. I always love doing flashbacks - seems to give everything more meaning visually. You've done a nice job on your vids as well - thanks again for the feedback!

What can I say... I love the music... (especially Pierce..lol)...I love how you portrayed Daniel and brought in some of Efrem's movies to create memories... I love how Laura reflects back and how the dialog blended in with the music... Very well done!!!!! Thank you for creating such wonderful videos for us all to enjoy.

WOW... just ... WOW!!! This is AMAZING - Love, Love, Love it!! The three parts flowed so well together!! And your really told a story with this!! I loved how you used some old footage of Efrem to enhance the story!! I loved the choice of dialog you decided to use!! Beautiful vid!!! One of my new favorites!!
This was well done. Now I want to go back to watch the season again. FWIW: Pierce did try to create a Steele reunion movie through his production company, but no one would back it.
Sad to see this vid is no longer available. I saw it once and really liked it only to find it missing the next time I went looking for it.

I always wondered how Stephanie felt about working with her father.
At the end in the four season the couple.. is broken in the set...is horrible...they never look each other in the eyes...and Pierce Brosnan's face looks like a stone. Stephanie, very good proffesional handles the ice of the scenes of both...
Zimbalist admidts she had a problem that Brosnan was becoming the big star out of the show
I heard that they hated the later scripts. I agree that the last two seasons are hard to watch when they seemed to have so much fun in S1 and S2
Leadership had changed at NBC. The executive champion of Steele had been replaced, the production budgets cut and several writers were replaced. Steele was moved out of its bonus time slot to make room for other material that proved more popular with audiences (NBC shot to #1 that year). Then the last second renewal by NBC after it was supposed to be cancelled screwed up both their careers. One permanently, one temporarily. For awhile there was no love lost for all involved. But Pierce did reach out to Steph years later and they have since put things behind them. Pierce tried to create a reunion movie for the two of them post Bond. At this point in their lives, it would be difficult to pull off to any fans satisfaction.
