Excellent as usual, Thomas. The two things that stick out and bother me are the elimination of the eight pre programmable buttons in the center, and the unnecessary and cheap looking arrows with the X5 logo on the dashboard in front of the passenger seat. Do those look cheap to you?
The fact that the other models do in fact look sometimes even worse than much cheaper cars (and even less reliable than some) and people still buy BMW, is just indicative of how much power a brand holds. And how much people just want to flex.
Mercedes is the worst design ever nowadays, not like previous design or mercedes. Even other brands already much better than mercedes. Same can be said for reliability that other brands also better than mercedes

Thomas, great review as usual. Many nice improvements but as personal choice, overall I prefer my 2021 X5 , the deal breakers are missing air conditioning physical buttons and more importantly the gear shifter lever (sorry I really dislike the new nub design). The BMW X5 was one of the highest repair cars in the world. They’re endless money pits as they age. I’m not fan with a German cars but X5 still beautiful looking. Just realize it in Europe it’s way more cheaper than the US and around the world. X5 redesigned still beautiful the interior and way more features than before. But still BMWs the worst nightmare cars and that’s why I can’t afford it anymore. Even the Lexus is a joke and more expensive
Well they didn't change it dramatically from the old design, so it still generally looks good. I think the older one looked nicer (more up market) though for some reason

Artificial leather (no matter how they call it: Sensafin, Sensatec) is really crap. In terms of emission... it's rather for marketing purposes (if quality is not there, let there be eco-narration) and probably only partial view. Probably there is no difference (or not accountable) in emission considering entire production chain... only marketing story why they introduce cheaper material and charge the same. Wonder why BMW discontinued offering alcantara+fabric upholstery: no maintenance required and so far very best quality (looks the same after several years, no need to repair in lifecycle). Is this really about environment? I do not think so. Btw in Poland alcantara+fabric was the most popular upholstery in 5 series.
also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment. You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. They can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even from plant-based materials (like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum). Or the Polestar 3 e.g. is using pine oil. And even if you still create a leatherette seat the classic way with petroleum base without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is very little in comparison to how much oil is used for other car parts or how much oil is burned for fuel or heating. Thomas is the guy! Like all the new and facelifted Bmws, looks good outside (disconsidering the M3 and the new 2 series), but much worse inside; those screens are so much harder to use and also make the dash look cheap and uninspired (remember people: stick two screens is much cheaper than design and develop buttons and dashpads). I definetely won't trade my pre-facelift version for this one, I'll have to look elsewhere, to other brands, BMW designers pushed me away :(
But new things and new better especially other continental brands. But based on this design, if comparing with GLE facelift, X5 facelift looks better than GLE facelift
RUINED by iDrive 8. iDrive 8 is an abomination. WILL NOT buy another BMW until they sort this out. The 8 shortcuts are gone. Climate control buttons are gone. Heated seats and ventilated seats are now have to be turned on / off in software. No one can dispute that having to navigate a software menu to do simple tasks is safer than a switch you can locate and turn on, without looking, by memory. The fact the common sense has been lost around this is totally mind boggling. And please don't give me the voice commands solution. The voice commands are slow and half baked, at best.
I love the way that BMW publishes their figures for the XDrive40i.. they keep getting more power on paper and keep claiming slower 0-60s. In reality the 2019-2023 versions were putting 330+hp to the wheels with most people getting real world 0-60 runs in the 4.9 range. If the new one really has 15% more power at the crank, this thing will be lightning fast.
The front looks AMAZING on the M-Sport package...i love the gray...i love the new i-Drive infotainment screen...BMW is truly the best , and it drives like a sedan...im currently driving a 2022 X5 with the B58...i wish the would have had the M40i like the X3's did on launch...👍👍👍

They should definitely have kept the AC buttons and not added it into the screen, you just want them there, many reasons why i prefer BMW because they kept some necessary buttons, but now, i don't know... 😕
Thomas, if i was working with you when buying my x5 I’d have ended up buying every extra available 😂. Great detail and information! Annoying that some functions are no longer buttons.
It is strange that Nardo doesnt appear in the Configurator, maybe special order. The data sheet defo said Nardo Grey 6 k option Individual. Brooklyn Grey has a more blue'ish note to it, but the colors are similar. I am re-checking with BMW though.

@@autogefuehl I think these paint versions of what I'd refer to as "gloss primer grey" are getting overdone by auto manufacturers....what was once a unique and attractive color, now a color seemingly everyone offers. Reminds me that now "ancient" gold trim option...once that trickled down to the lowliest Toyota model...from its Mercedes origins many years ago.
I have bmw 4 series 2022 with sensatec and bmw x5 2022 with Merino natural leather . No way you cand pretend it is rhe same quality and durability .15.000 km for the 4 series and the leather from the wheel chair already looks used ( by my 55kg wife ) , and the x5 chair looks new after 25.000 km used by me 100 kg . So buttom line : sensatec is better for anithing else but quality and durability
The Sensafin on the X5 is a different material, interested to see the development on real cars. I have also seen a lot of examples where the leatherette looked new and the animal skin looked old. Always depends on quality grade

Those plastic buttons on a steering wheel look quite cheap. They might be ok for budget bmw 3 but for x5 M sport I would love to see something more solid.
I'm not into this car trend of bolting on instrument cluster and infotainment system screens like a slab of rock after the interior has been built. It works for Tesla. But it comes off as cheap elsewhere. Integrating screens into the dash is more elegant. It's like If you bolted on Mt Rushmore onto a mountain, as opposed to carving it into a mountain. See the difference? Just more classy and beautiful and doesnt come across like an afterthought, like if the design team ran out of money and rushed adding the screens on dead last.
Great colour:-) Small wheels :-( Good spec :-) Good camera work 👍 these seats are more wear resistant than leather. Clear Sunroof is so much better than a thousand marks all over the clear glass for LEDs to shine onto from the sides. Funny how all reviews say the glass has leds in it, when it doesn't. Not a strange spec at all. . Your customer has a great looking car. Guess the roads they are driving on will not be good for 22 inch rims.
That one is not fake exhaust as long as it is visible. It looks better this way, being integrated into the rear bumper. Therefore no fake exhaust case for the FE Police, this time.
My dream is to pick this car up in around 2.5 years from BMW Welt in München. Dream car for many many years now. Leaving this comment here to see if I made it.

I picked up my E92 at The Welt in 2010, and it was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, BMW North America discontinued the European Delivery Program for US customers in 2020. A bummer for sure.

Love the new pulsating turn signals. I like the iDrive 8 screen size and implementation; although, the page with the long list of apps is overwhelming and I would think unsafe to use while driving. I would still prefer climate controls outside of the screen. The new styling is quite nice.
I drive x7 (model 2020) and Use the cruisecontrol often. On the left of the steering wheel you can adjust the distance of the adaptive CC with Two small buttons , in the new x7 and this x5 the buttons for controling the distance are gone on the steeringwheel But you have to Go to the menu of the car to adjust it in the touchscreen. Stupid decision to put it there, dangerous also because you no longer have you’re eyes on the road anymore. I think I drive my x7 for An additional 10 years. I really don’t like te dashboard of the new bmw’s. My x7 drives like a dream.😊

The X5, IMHO is the most practical SUV I've driven- size, boot space, driving dynamics, tech, audio, reliable engines - a fabulous package. I like this facelift and I'm glad that BMW have retained some tactile elements- particularly on the steering wheel. I'm looking at replacing my current X5 with the newer one- tossing up between the M40i and the M60i. I'm quite keen to know a bit more about the M40i and I'm sure you will be comparing the models at some stage- perhaps in Q2, 2023 I suppose, all qoing well. Whoa! The design is mad! An absolute head-turner. I could never own a car with such a design, because to me it's just silly, but it's definitely bold and unique and you can never mistake this for a different brand. It's funny how Mercedes and BMW go in totally different directions design-wise. Love the heated cup holders though 😮 One thing that remains constant in the ever changing car designs is Thomas' perfect review in a perfect outfit and presentation with all the important information about a car. I am glad they kept the I-drive controller. This shape is very susceptible to stone chips. I prefer these headlights to that of the X7. I hope the seatbelt height is adjustable this time.
My wife’s new X7 takes getting used to for voice everything like heated seats. I want some buttons back. The steering wheel heater button could have staid on wheel. Will new X5 have off road package??? Nice job.
Nice LCI, maybe for such a high class SUV its day-time running lights should be on bigger area, some longer strips, because X3 has better looking fuller shape and its lower class, so bigger class should have better bigger... you know. I don't very much like the black part of the dash with the ambient light and x5 in it it seema a bit on the cheap side tbh, but I understand they have to take that step because ita only LCI and not new model. And same story x7 has the same and its upper class so.. x1 x3 x5 x7 should be differentiated by bigger better design elements. Do you agree? P.S. taillights are BOMBASTIC ans just love the 4k, full screen and full length

Has BMW just forgotten how to make a nice looking front end? That looks so horrible compared to the pre-LCI, especially with the M Sport pack. The rear lights as well, the old ones weren't particularly great looking but at least they were clean with a matching design of the LEDs inside, these lights now look like cheap aftermarket add-ons. Such a shame. I'm also not keen on the new digital dashboard, completely lost the more premium feel of the previous model just to claim their single glass panel is larger than the others. But hey, as usual, great overview Thomas.
The new instrument screen looks very good but can’t say that about the front below the grill. Should have left it alone. Looks like just added some additional angles that are too much. I own a 2021 which I love but was looking forward to the power upgrade on the 2024 but now I doubt I’ll buy one.
I like it, they are just beautiful! On a down note, the front camera is not looking very nice exposed in the middle of the front grille, and the "hey bmw" is a mouthful, to say the least. However, the car is very beautiful!!

Just bought the X5 m60i and 1000% agree HATE the dials missing and the hidden switch for gears, hope nobody ever needs to reverse fast.

BMW designs been very controversial lately, but I think that they nailed X5 and X6 lci models. Very happy about the change.

Depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat is the first misuse case, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you demand it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and harms the environment, you make them more profitable. Alternatively, you could support industries with your wallet which try to improve the sustainability of materials. Also, if you turn the argument around to "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize that it doesn't make sense (and is ethically doubtful) to discuss the priority use of individual body parts of mammals. Mind experiment: You are getting slain down or even murdered on the street; would it matter to you if it was for your smartphone or for your purse?
We cannot change what we have bought in the past, but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

I think this is the most successful update BMW have released for a very long while. It shows that new BMWs can be handsome.

Thomas is the guy! Like all the new and facelifted Bmws, looks good outside (disconsidering the M3 and the new 2 series), but much worse inside; those screens are so much harder to use and also make the dash look cheap and uninspired (remember people: stick two screens is much cheaper than design and develop buttons and dashpads). I definetely won't trade my pre-facelift version for this one, I'll have to look elsewhere, to other brands, BMW designers pushed me away :(

Exterior is definitely amazing and new colors are beautiful but inside I like to have an actual shifter and I don’t like air controls on the screen 🙁

RUINED by iDrive 8. iDrive 8 is an abomination. WILL NOT buy another BMW until they sort this out. The 8 shortcuts are gone. Climate control buttons are gone. Heated seats and ventilated seats are now have to be turned on / off in software. No one can dispute that having to navigate a software menu to do simple tasks is safer than a switch you can locate and turn on, without looking, by memory. The fact the common sense has been lost around this is totally mind boggling. And please don't give me the voice commands solution. The voice commands are slow and half baked, at best.
The X5 will always have a special spot in my heart! :)
I love the way that BMW publishes their figures for the XDrive40i.. they keep getting more power on paper and keep claiming slower 0-60s. In reality the 2019-2023 versions were putting 330+hp to the wheels with most people getting real world 0-60 runs in the 4.9 range. If the new one really has 15% more power at the crank, this thing will be lightning fast.
The front looks AMAZING on the M-Sport package...i love the gray...i love the new i-Drive infotainment screen...BMW is truly the best , and it drives like a sedan...im currently driving a 2022 X5 with the B58...i wish the would have had the M40i like the X3's did on launch...👍👍👍

They should definitely have kept the AC buttons and not added it into the screen, you just want them there, many reasons why i prefer BMW because they kept some necessary buttons, but now, i don't know... 😕

Yes...I agree...curved display and iDrive 8 were features that caused us to buy pre-facelift (coming 2025) x3 M40i.

It is strange that Nardo doesnt appear in the Configurator, maybe special order. The data sheet defo said Nardo Grey 6 k option Individual. Brooklyn Grey has a more blue'ish note to it, but the colors are similar. I am re-checking with BMW though.

@@autogefuehl I think these paint versions of what I'd refer to as "gloss primer grey" are getting overdone by auto manufacturers....what was once a unique and attractive color, now a color seemingly everyone offers. Reminds me that now "ancient" gold trim option...once that trickled down to the lowliest Toyota model...from its Mercedes origins many years ago.
I have bmw 4 series 2022 with sensatec and bmw x5 2022 with Merino natural leather . No way you cand pretend it is rhe same quality and durability .15.000 km for the 4 series and the leather from the wheel chair already looks used ( by my 55kg wife ) , and the x5 chair looks new after 25.000 km used by me 100 kg . So buttom line : sensatec is better for anithing else but quality and durability
The Sensafin on the X5 is a different material, interested to see the development on real cars. I have also seen a lot of examples where the leatherette looked new and the animal skin looked old. Always depends on quality grade

Those plastic buttons on a steering wheel look quite cheap. They might be ok for budget bmw 3 but for x5 M sport I would love to see something more solid.
It looks brilliant. Very strong sharp features for the facelift. Crisp and clear graphics. A good choice not to enlarge the grill. I love it ❤

Headlight design is weird. Overall nice though
I'm not into this car trend of bolting on instrument cluster and infotainment system screens like a slab of rock after the interior has been built. It works for Tesla. But it comes off as cheap elsewhere. Integrating screens into the dash is more elegant. It's like If you bolted on Mt Rushmore onto a mountain, as opposed to carving it into a mountain. See the difference? Just more classy and beautiful and doesnt come across like an afterthought, like if the design team ran out of money and rushed adding the screens on dead last.
These headlights look too basic. Last one looked better IMHO

these seats are more wear resistant than leather.
Clear Sunroof is so much better than a thousand marks all over the clear glass for LEDs to shine onto from the sides.

I picked up my E92 at The Welt in 2010, and it was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, BMW North America discontinued the European Delivery Program for US customers in 2020. A bummer for sure.

Love the new pulsating turn signals. I like the iDrive 8 screen size and implementation; although, the page with the long list of apps is overwhelming and I would think unsafe to use while driving. I would still prefer climate controls outside of the screen.

The BMW X5 and especially the X5M is one of the most beautifully designed models of all time.
I drive x7 (model 2020) and Use the cruisecontrol often. On the left of the steering wheel you can adjust the distance of the adaptive CC with Two small buttons , in the new x7 and this x5 the buttons for controling the distance are gone on the steeringwheel But you have to Go to the menu of the car to adjust it in the touchscreen. Stupid decision to put it there, dangerous also because you no longer have you’re eyes on the road anymore. I think I drive my x7 for An additional 10 years. I really don’t like te dashboard of the new bmw’s. My x7 drives like a dream.😊

The X5, IMHO is the most practical SUV I've driven- size, boot space, driving dynamics, tech, audio, reliable engines - a fabulous package. I like this facelift and I'm glad that BMW have retained some tactile elements- particularly on the steering wheel. I'm looking at replacing my current X5 with the newer one- tossing up between the M40i and the M60i. I'm quite keen to know a bit more about the M40i and I'm sure you will be comparing the models at some stage- perhaps in Q2, 2023 I suppose, all qoing well. Deep within me, I know I have a grin on my face when I hear the V8. 😂. Thanks again Thomas. Hope you are well !

Whoa! The design is mad! An absolute head-turner. I could never own a car with such a design, because to me it's just silly, but it's definitely bold and unique and you can never mistake this for a different brand. It's funny how Mercedes and BMW go in totally different directions design-wise. Love the heated cup holders though 😮

I am glad they kept the I-drive controller. This shape is very susceptible to stone chips. I prefer these headlights to that of the X7. I hope the seatbelt height is adjustable this time.

Nice LCI, maybe for such a high class SUV its day-time running lights should be on bigger area, some longer strips, because X3 has better looking fuller shape and its lower class, so bigger class should have better bigger... you know. I don't very much like the black part of the dash with the ambient light and x5 in it it seema a bit on the cheap side tbh, but I understand they have to take that step because ita only LCI and not new model. And same story x7 has the same and its upper class so.. x1 x3 x5 x7 should be differentiated by bigger better design elements. Do you agree?
P.S. taillights are BOMBASTIC ans just love the 4k, full screen and full length

Has BMW just forgotten how to make a nice looking front end? That looks so horrible compared to the pre-LCI, especially with the M Sport pack. The rear lights as well, the old ones weren't particularly great looking but at least they were clean with a matching design of the LEDs inside, these lights now look like cheap aftermarket add-ons. Such a shame. I'm also not keen on the new digital dashboard, completely lost the more premium feel of the previous model just to claim their single glass panel is larger than the others.

We love our 2020 BMW X5. Will are planning to upgrade next year Into the new model……
The new instrument screen looks very good but can’t say that about the front below the grill. Should have left it alone. Looks like just added some additional angles that are too much. I own a 2021 which I love but was looking forward to the power upgrade on the 2024 but now I doubt I’ll buy one.
