Opened in 1902, the U-Bahn serves 173 stations spread across ten lines, with a total track length of 151.7 kilometres (94.3 mi), about 80% of which is underground. Trains run every two to five minutes during peak hours, every five minutes for the rest of the day and every ten minutes in the evening. Over the course of a year, U-Bahn trains travel 132 million km (82.0 million mi), and carry over 400 million passengers. In 2015, 534.5 million passengers rode the U-Bahn. Είχαμε και εμείς στην Αθήνα τον ίδιο τύπο τρένου (0΄και 22΄΄ του video, LEW, κατασκευής Ανατολικής Γερμανίας, 1983), τα λεγόμενα "9ης παραλαβής". Η παραγγελία περιλάμβανε 8 συρμούς των έξι οχημάτων 6 * 8 = 48 + 2 οχήματα αναπληρωματικά = 50. Εξ αρχής δεν τα συμπάθησαν και γρήγορα μπήκαν στην εφεδρεία! Το 2004 και παρότι είχαν σχετικά λίγες ώρες λειτουργίας, εντελώς αδικαιολόγητα αποσύρθηκαν για σκραπ! Είχαν αμάξωμα αλουμινίου και θα μπορούσαν να ανακατασκευαστούν και να προσφέρουν πολύτιμες υπηρεσίες, κυρίως στη γραμμή αεροδρομίου στην οποία οι στάσεις είναι πιο αραιές και η καταπόνηση μικρότερη. Η αδικαιολόγητη καταστροφή αυτών οχημάτων αποτέλεσε ένα "έγκλημα" χωρίς τιμωρία...
