  • When you come to visit Berlin as a tourist (and even in Germany), you don't really have to stress about how to travel from one place to another. The city's public transportation system is second to none and extremely affordable. This video is a guide to show you the most important things you need to know regarding the use of all modes of public transport throughout the city. You'll be a local after watching this! Well, hopefully.

    Don’t know why I watched this, because I live in Berlin for twenty years now and I am German. The UA-cam way I guess. But for those who come to visit this city, this video is really useful, correct and on point. Really love to see someone who puts that much effort in this and thereby helps people! Greetings from Berlin!

    Thank you. This was helpful. One note I would like to add for tourists is, if you have a validated German rail card, Interrail or Eurail train pass for the duration of your visit to Berlin, the S-Bahn, RE, RB, ICE, EC and EC trains are all covered by the passes. The U-bahn trains, buses, trams and ferries are NOT covered by rail passes. In fact the train rule applies to all of German cities with S-Bahn services.

However I wasn't aware that I should show my ticket to the bus driver since at least from my experience nobody does that with double-deckers. Hi. Great video and very informative. I have a question about the berlin welcome card, do I validate only the first time I start using the public transport or do I have to validate it every time I use a bus or a train? Also, do you recommend buying the berlin welcome card online or when I get to Berlin? Thanks in advance.

    • @ExpatCaptures
      @ExpatCaptures  Рік тому

      Hi there Constantina! Thanks for stopping by! If you prefer to buy it online and the website has all the information you need, then by all means do that. If you prefer to speak to a person, then simply go to one of the bigger stations in Berlin (like Hauptbahnhof, Alexanderplatz, Ostkreuz) and ask the office desk about the card. They'll help you just fine. You shouldn't have to validate it every time, but just ask the people to make sure. I've personally never actually bought one before as I've been a local resident anyway.

    Thank you for the video and keep it going!!. I have a question. I will be arriving at the Willy Brandt from Singapore at 7.40am. I have a flight out to Amsterdam early next day. Since the hotel check in opposite the airport is only much later in the afternoon, i was thinking of going for a train ride and walk a little. This is my first overseas trip anyway. I am open for suggestions as long as i am back at the airport hotel by 4pm. Is there a scenic route train ride? I am a little confused about the AB C zone you had mentioned in your video. Since the airport is in Zone C, i am pretty sure that i will need to get the Zone C when i am returning to the airport. But do i need to get the Zone C when i am departing the airport? Thank you for your advice and sorry for my lengthy post.

      Yes you need to get a zone C departing and arriving. The train is not really scenic, but that should be ok because Berlin is great!

    Great video, thank you, only thing I’m not 100% sure of is if you have to validate your 24 hour ticket every journey or just prior to the first one? Maybe you could clarify, cheers

    • @ExpatCaptures
      @ExpatCaptures  Рік тому +1

      No problem! Just the first one. It's a 24 hour ticket, so when you validate it, it will be valid for 24 hours. Validation doesn't really have to do with hopping on and off transport. Instead, it's to show when exactly a particular ticket type/duration takes effect.

      Easiest is if you just download one of the mobile apps. If you buy tickets there, no need for validation!

    Thanks for the video! For some reason I had a lot of trouble on the S bahn. Those route placards seem to be hit or miss, and had a lot of trouble figuring out where it was actually going….even with Google maps (which ceases to work underground). Rode 3 wrong trains (apparently).

    • @ExpatCaptures

      Yeh if it's not the Ring Bahn, then just look at the end station and see if the end station is reflected on Google Maps.

    This was really helpful! Headed to Berlin soon and this definitely helped with navigation anxiety. Is there another way to get to AB without having to use IC from the airport? I'm mapping my route from the airport and it keeps saying I should us IC to transfer to S-Bahn. Any insight is much appreciated!

      My pleasure! If the train number on Google Maps starts with RE or RB, you can use a normal ticket for them. You can also take the S-Bahn to get to AB or the city centre.

    This has been very helpful. thank you. I went to berlin last year and had so much anxiety using public transportation. I'm pretty sure I forgot to validate. This time I think I know what to do. We are going to try to go to Potsdam from the city center. Any tips on the best way to do that using public transport? Is there a special ticket that will get us there and back in one day? keeping in mind we will be in Berlin using public transport for about 5 days total.

    Thank you for this video, it was very helpful, and it even made me chuckle a few times. I do have a question - BVG offers an extension card for zone C for a 24h ticket, that's 3,70 euro, but can I get a normal extension card that's 1,80 euro if i only need one trip (airport) with my 24 h ticket in AB zone?

    • @ExpatCaptures
      @ExpatCaptures  Рік тому

      Thank you! And yes correct, if you plan to only travel within zone AB+C one time and then only travel within A and B afterwards, then there's no need for you to get a 24-hour Zone C extension ticket. If you plan to travel frequently to and from Zone C within 24 hours, only then does it make sense to get the 24 hour one. Hope that helps :)

  • @balsingh5482

    Thanks for the video. I have 2 qestions: How does one validate a ticket bought on the App. And, once one buys a ticket (say for zones AB) how many rides/days is it valid for? Many thanks

    • @ExpatCaptures
      @ExpatCaptures  2 роки тому +1

      The ticket is validated in the app as soon as you buy it. Regarding your second question, it depends on the type of it ticket you bought. If you bought a daily ticket, then a day. A monthly ticket = a month. If you're talking about a single one-way ticket, then it should last 2 hours including any necessary transfers.

      Good luck mate! From the central bus station, there is one U-Bahn station (U2) and one S-Bahn station nearby, so you should be able to get where you want from there :)

    Hi, thank you for this very useful video.
    I wanted to ask a question, maybe I didn't understand correctly: if I buy a ticket for the S-Bahn and I then have to travel on the U-Bahn for the same ride, is the ticket a single ticket or are they two separate tickets? I mean: from the airport I have to take the S-Bahn to go to zone A, also transiting on the U-Bahn: is it a single ticket or two separate tickets? Sorry for this question, I'm Italian and it's the first time I'm going to Berlin and I'm from a small place where there is no public transport, so I'm a bit scared of public transport in a metropolis.
    Thank you :)

    • @ExpatCaptures
      @ExpatCaptures  Рік тому +1

      Hi there! No problem. Yes, it's a single ticket, as long as you are travelling on one journey to one destination and the U-Bahn to S-Bahn transfer is part of the journey, than one ticket is fine.
      On the other hand, if for example you go to the city but then use the same single ticket before it's expiration to return back, you legally need to buy two tickets, as this would be two separate journeys.

    Hi, thank you for the video, I have antisocial reasons too to ask this: do you recommend that buy an ABC zone ticket online in this month? I'll travel until September
    Also, if I do that, I must have to go to some place to get the physical ticket or card? The Berlin welcome card, is actually a card? Haha
    Thanks

      @ExpatCaptures  Рік тому

      Hey! If you don't live in a Zone C area, I recommend you only get an AB ticket. I think until end of August/Sept, you can get a monthly ticket for 9EUR as part of a special offer thats going on. You should be able to get that in a machine (I think).
