Anya's comments about being blunt with people and not liking working around other artists really resonated with me. I'm introverted and prefer to work alone but I do have problems with being motivated so I belong to an art club and go regularly and we just do our own thing. Sometimes we're rowdy and sometimes nobody speaks. This was a really good podcast and Anya is lovely and honest about herself and her working processes. You have a great deal of empathy Andrew and having you do these podcasts makes me realise even successful artists are still struggling. Knowing this makes me realise I'm quite normal so thank you.
When I first started watching this after a few minutes, I really thought this interview was going to be a waste of my time. Boy was I wrong. This really says it all. I was expecting someone to tell me all about how to get out and market your product but did not get that at all. Well truth is , Ive already heard all of those things and it would only have been a reminder. Instead I got, “ I’m really not an extrovert and don’t like to have a lot of people around me when I’m working. I like to focus”. Oh my gosh that is me!!!. I’m not an unfriendly person and I love when I go someplace to sell my work getting to talk to people.... about all sorts of things. But I’m also the kind of person who doesn’t want to go to the party....... until I get there and then Ihave a good time. I hear how you need to go around to galleries and show them your work. ‘That is hard for me. Just not that kind of person. However the successes Ive had have come from getting my work out there and seen in different ways and the quality was good enough for a certain set of people who like the kind of art I do and want to purchase it. I find myself very busy now. I also like her, “well I can just do that myself “ attitude because again I often feel that same way but have always thought I should do it differently and now I realize I don’t. I also really agree about getting someone else to do the business part freeing me up to paint but am not there yet financially, so I will continue to push through on that part. Ive seen that many male artists are lucky in that as they have a wife!!! However women artists like myself don’t seem to get that so help so much in their lives. At any rate, just wanted to say that was a really good interview, it was a bit unorthodox and for me, freeing at the same time. I learned a lot. Thank you. And now I will go watch again, you starting a painting which is going to inspire me to stop staring at this canvas and get that painting blocked in today. Thanks Andrew, I look at your videos all the time. I am looking forward to purchasing one of your full videos as soon as I can be sure I can load it onto my iPad Pro.
I loved this interview and can relate to BOTH of your insights around the creative process! Thank you for making these fabulous interview videos, Andrew!
Great sharing there with Anya ..You are on a roll with these podcasts..You are human like us all Andrew but feel like your way to hard on yourself. block all negative and listen to all us positive fans that love your work and the help you have taught so many.Thinking listening to that we all on same path ups and downs but never stop learning..
God Bless you Andrew for these podcasts! Cesar Santos, Dr. Demartini, and now this one....FANTASTIC! Comes at a time when I really need it too. Again, thank you!
This series is superb..not only about business of making a living in art..but about determination and grit..and lessons for navigating life in general..it’s a context oft forgotten. We learn about Flemish painters and patrons..but forget the same stress of making a living applies today
There are just so many unnamed fears when I think about marketing....but listening to this podcast made me realize that I have got to go beyond it. Thanks again sir for this much needed podcast.
Thankyou so much Andrew and Anya! Such a great theme of individual processes! We all have our own ways. I used to feel - as a natural history artist -I'd been born in the wrong century, but the internet has changed everything ( : and the material you produce just confirms that. ( : thanks for the constant inspiration!
Another great podcast Andrew! How settling to hear people echoing feelings that go on inside my own head :) Without the presence of family around me I could be totally selfish and just paint all the time - life gets in the way! Thank you for taking that time out of your own painting schedule to provide us with insights from others. You are an inspiration - thank you!
Great episode, I learnt alot. I would have like to hear how Anya went from sleeping at different houses when she came back from London, to being able to get a studio space. And how much she pays for her studio space. Also how she went from starting to post pics on Instagram in 2012 to having 47K followers. I feel like there's some major steps that weren't talked about. Like perhaps advertising on Facebook/Instagram? These are the nuts and bolts stuff that emerging artists want to know. And I know not everyone likes to fully expose themselves on how they got their followers ect (and I understand every artists journey is different) but it would be so helpful to hear.
Andrew I really so enjoy your You tube videos.....I am a language teacher (and hobby painter) and I think you are an amazing teacher. You understand the struggles of your audience and their art, and you have great connection and empathy with them. I
This was a terrific podcast -- I can't thank you enough for sharing so openly about each of your journeys. It was especially interesting to hear how comments made in your formative years have remained with you all through your lives. In my life, the discouraging comments came from my parents, who had both studied art. The drive you both display for fueling the creative urge is wonderful. For me, as soon as I begin to pursue the marketing aspect, my creative urge flies out the window. Opposites sides of the brain perhaps. Anyway, Thanks again. I really loved this.
Refreshing to see you chose a successful West Australian artists as your guest. The insular & clicky mindset in WA is a challenge for anyone wanting to pursue an artistic career here. To hear it can be done is always inspiring.
Great podcast Andrew, I know Anya has similar views to yourself about galleries. I’ve just joined a new start up one myself called theSinclairGallery ran by Esther Murphy, who is a huge fan of yours, and I think Esther just loves art so much, mostly representational art, and just wants to have that as a big part of her life. So I’m looking forward to seeing where this chapter leads. I’m still trying to figure out what I really want to paint and hearing you both talk about having that intrinsic desire to always want to do art 24/7 is awesome, I’m starting to get there with my enthusiasm, but a lot of my energy is zapped while trying to still learn the processes. Hopefully I’ll be flying when that becomes unconscious competence. With Tons of practice 😩🤣. Great stuff as always. Keep up the awesome work.😁
Thanks Andrew and Anya....Andrew could you do a video on how to narrow down multiple art interests to one art....like oils, pastels, watercolour, clay sculpture etc
I love how open minded you are Andrew towards different styles and just people in general. This podcast gave me a lot, thank you so much for doing it!! (love your moustache)
Anya is just amazing, thank you so much for this podcast. So much good advice, and so much good feelings about not just being a person doing their thing but being isolated as you say and how it will just happen as long as you work hard. Thank you so much 💕
Thank you, Andrew and Anya. This is just what I have been looking for and answered all my questions. I am in the process of "finding myself" and peeling back the onion layers to discover how I work and what makes me tick. I'm saving this video to keep for future reference. You guys are amazing!! Thank you again from Bundaberg Qld Australia.
I really enjoyed this! You two couldn’t be more different in your finished art .. I love being able to take away lessons from you both. Thank you! Hello from Idaho🙋♀️
Another awesome insight into an artists life. Loving the podcasts! I’ve been So inspired from following everyone’s channel to finally get something out there on my own, so thank you Andrew.🙏👍
Hi Andrew! I have never commented on anyone's video before but I just want to let you know that I have become such a big fan of yours so quickly! You have inspired me big time. You have helped me realized just recently that I have always wanted to be an artist ever since I was little and now i feel compelled to chase after my childhood dream ☺ Thank you!
Excellent interview - it was relaxed and engaging to listen to. I like the personality of Anya Brock. I like how Andrew was asking questions that would be helpful for us artists who are going through the learning process. Thank you, Andrew for this video.
Excellent interview Andrew. I hadn't come across Anya previously, it was very interesting to hear what you both had to say. Thank you for your work on this.
yeah i made it to the final second of this video... and the only thing i have to say is may god bless you for all these amazing things you do to help beginner artists like me to have the courage to go all the way in art.
Andrew if you want to paint like Anya you have to be willing to let go of your control issues. I occasion I Deliberately paint with watercolors because I have very little control, it’s a great practice and letting go
SIR IM FROM PHILIPPINES , IM ONE OF YOUR VIVID FAN , I ALWAYS TAKE YOUR ADVICES AND TECHNIQUES I HOPE SOMEDAY I WILL BE A BETTER ARTIST . I DROPPED MY COLLEGE BECAUSE I CANNOT SUPPORT MY FINANCIAL NEEDS THATS WHY I FOCUSED ON MY TALENT . I HOPE I CAN SEE YOU SOMEDAY 😊
Thank you for another informative podcast. I hear you both talking about your insecurities, and i understand them, but can someone advise me on how to cope with the Imposter Syndrome I have? I believe I can paint but I have no formal art education. How do I feel like an artist without feeling like an uneducated imposter???
I have a formal art education, i realised soon after that it was totally unnecessary in terms of making art. All you need is the desire to create, a good idea and the skill to pull it off. Just go for it, you don't need a qualification to create art, it's your God given human right!
Anya has almost turned her artwork into a iconic brand ...her artwork also fits the present globalists narrative ... so it's very trendy to young professionals especially with the titles ... also looks good in an IKEA soundings . Great business women! ...but not my particular taste of Art :)

Loved it all, but the very best was Anya's parting wisdom. Exactly what I needed to hear. Gratitude...

1:02:10 - Mindfulness and ego. Great and inspiring discussion! Really needed to hear that.
This is Great!!! No one ever taught this to us in college or high school. This is the missing piece for so many artists.Thank you for sharing!
I so enjoyed this! What an open and interesting character, Anya is - great sense of humour too. Learned a lot - inspiring - enjoyable. Thank you x x
Andrew, your you tube channel is my absolute favorite. I get so inspired when I watch your videos. Thank you for creating them!
Thanks Kristina!
Totally hear what she is saying around Galleries but how does that impact your arts value in-terms of resale value for investment buyers?
There are just so many unnamed fears when I think about marketing....but listening to this podcast made me realize that I have got to go beyond it. Thanks again sir for this much needed podcast.

Best episode yet! Very interesting conversation. I love Anya's bold, no bs attitude. It's quite inspiring actually!
Very inspiring. Thank you for helping fellow artists with this interview.
Wonderful interview...thank you both soooo much...

This podcast has been very inspiring and answered questions that I can identify with. Thank you. I also looked at Anya's work, it is beautiful.

Andrew thank you for another very interesting and inspiring Podcast.
Excellent interview - it was relaxed and engaging to listen to. I like the personality of Anya Brock. I like how Andrew was asking questions that would be helpful for us artists who are going through the learning process. Thank you, Andrew for this video.
hey andrew what do you do with your dirty brushes after you are done with an an plein air study
As an artist, I have NO ability to market myself. That alone is a talent and it's not mine. My respect to any artist who can do that.
Excellent interview Andrew. I hadn't come across Anya previously, it was very interesting to hear what you both had to say. Thank you for your work on this.
Thank you both for putting into words a lot of my feelings, thanks
Art is a lightning rod for my insanity!
Je comprend pas bien l anglais mais j' ai appris beaucoup de choses de vos vidéos, merci beaucoup
yeah i made it to the final second of this video... and the only thing i have to say is may god bless you for all these amazing things you do to help beginner artists like me to have the courage to go all the way in art.

Awesome show! I can relate to so much of what you both said ... artists are definitely in a league of their own
Like the colours she uses. Thanks
Great podcast!
Really inspired me, thanks 😍
You amazing 100% artist, I love you paintings. #shoutout from South Africa#
Subbed to your channel! This style is great!
That stache though!
Very nice
It's interesting how I recognize some of those traits and quirks she talks about I have too that are traits of aspergers
Anya has almost turned her artwork into a iconic brand ...her artwork also fits the present globalists narrative ... so it's very trendy to young professionals especially with the titles ... also looks good in an IKEA soundings . Great business women! ...but not my particular taste of Art :)
I had to stop listening to this interview due to Anya constantly interrupting Andrew with "Uh -herm." So unprofessional.
I didn't get much out of this interview. Wish she would have talked more about her philosophy of art or painting.
Okay, there will be others that will be to your liking I'm sure. Stay tuned!
