  • "Für Elise" (For Elise) is the popular name of one of Ludwig van Beethoven's (1770-1827) most popular compositions.
the Bagatelle in A minor (WoO 59 and Bia 515) for solo piano, marked poco moto, dated 27 April 1810. The original autographed manuscript has been lost and the piece itself was not published until 1865.
It is not certain who "Elise" was. Some scholars have suggested she was Beethoven's fifth mistress, while others have suggested that the discoverer of the piece, Ludwig Nohl, may have transcribed the title incorrectly and the original work may have been named "Für Therese"

shame this song was discovered 40 years after beethovens death. i have a feeling this piece meant a great deal to him. most likely wanted to keep it to himself. "elise" whom this piece is dedicated is Therese Malfatti. beethoven actually proposed to her but was rejected. do you hear the bittersweetness in the song? truly put his emotions into this. bravo.

However true or untrue this may be, to announce it to the world, then proclaim you have a young age simply makes you sound snobbish. I guess what I'm saying is that nobody really cares how old you are, just sit back and enjoy the music.

So, funny story about this song. Beethoven wrote it because he had a crush on one of his beginner students, so he wrote the first half to be really easy, so she could play it. When he confessed to her and she turned him down, he wrote the second half of the song to be really hard, so she could never play it.

i get that people are disregarding newer music opposed to pieces like this, but you have to think that this kind of music during the Beethoven era *was* the popular music of the time. you have to think, in 100 years, people will think that our music was an art form and was as beautiful as we think music like this is. so, really, all music is art. so appreciate what you have and what society grants you with.

Lots of comments on here disparaging rap for some reason. If your going to make the point that music like this has a lot of character and soul to it, wheras other music (I.E commercialized, plastic music that is designed to be a consumable product and nothing more) doesnt hit the mark like this, that's great and i agree. But, there's lots of rap and hip hop out there that is REAL music. If you don't dig it that's cool, but air your grevancies specifically, don't lambast a whole genera because of a phenomenon that affects all other genras today.
    But yeah, beethoven is dope.

i personally think mumble rap, and all this new school stuff is terrible, because you cant understand what they are saying and its usually degrading content, not that old school stuff didnt have degrading content but the point im trying to make is that rap used to be excellent when the rappers actually wrote true lyrics that reflected their lives, struggles and achievements. unfortunately now its easier to just mumble about bitches and lean.

This brings tears to my eyes as it helps me remember all the cows I tried to look after who selflessly sacrificed their lives, giving their everything and then dying without being loved by anyone.
I play this every morning hours before sunrise when privately chanting the holy names of the Lord "Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare/ Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare".
It is the most moving and beautiful music I have ever heard.
It plays on my Seiko wind up melody alarm clock which I wind specifically for this meditation in the dark at that time.
Whoever authored this piece was directly inspired by God, there is no doubt.

from how interpreted it, i believe this piece shows the love, the hurt, and the healing of a relationship. this piece was written for elise, a girl whom rejected his proposal. you can hear his love for her in the beginning, the downfall at around 2 minutes, the chaos going through his mind, and the healing at the end where his music comes back a little bit more steady. i love it.

Beethoven is a very good piano player. He is deaf and he still can feel the piano and that's how he made Für Elise. The name is Für Elise because he made that song for his wife named Elise and it's for her so they did Für. Beethoven was born in December 17, 1770. He started play in piano in 1778 when he was seven. Beethoven had seven kids. He died on March 26, 1827. He died at the age of 56 in Schwarzspanierhaus, Vienna. His songs are very old and beautiful

It sounds to me his love for her, whoever she was, was delicate. And he was there for her climax, her splendid youth and vitality. And then, he was there for her descent into aged beauty. He saw it all. And his love endured. You can feel it in every note. This music is so beautiful. She was the same to him all the while he saw her differences. He loved her.

So he was in love with Elise and wanted to date her. So he said to meet in the hotel. She was already there but it was raining so he was waiting for "TAXI" and no one stopped to help. And then he decided to go by himself, but it was raining so heavy that someone's carriage was broken, so he helped that person. And finally ran to the hotel... And Elise was waiting for him. Finally she thought he was just joking about the date, when he walked into the right door and she walks out of the left one... (don't know if true, or it happened to him, Its our teacher who explained it to us. It's better to research and yeah, sorry for bad English...;)

Elise was the leader of a band of marauding gunslingers who would regularly raid small German towns. The villagers hired to Beethoven to defeat her, and he did so by composing this thoughtful piece of music, to be played whenever Elise's gang appeared on the horizon, so placating their mindless bloodlust.
