Have you noticed any benefits from the switch now that it’s mature? Bedding? Daylight movement? Increased deer carrying capacity?

When bought farm 25 years ago, no pheasants. Started planting various prairie grasses in extra wide waterways. Now everybody want to hunt my land. Leave old fences up for habitat.

We have some fields that next year wud b 3rd year switch, can I burn 3rd spring? Did you need fire breaks when burning in April?

Yes burning would really help it! You will need good fire breaks and be very careful/learn how to do it. It is unreal how fast and hot these tall grasses burn. Flames will be 3x the height of the grasses and you can feel the heat 100 ft away

Start your burn downwind and burn towards the wind. This makes the fire burn slower because it's burning against the wind which burns more weeds instead of just burning the top vegetation. Burning against the wind is also safer and helps control the fire.
