Im from Argentina, i speak spanish, Maybe i cant understand every line in an interview like this, but i have to say, i love every M.I.A interview but mostly with Strombo, so fucking good, i remember when she came with her first record, and when most of artist stay on the hotel or go to same tourist points, Maya went to Really poor neightborhoods, comunities, called "villas", she IS a revolucionary, she talks topics no other artist talks, she even talked about Palestine, Julián Assange, Snowden. She IS truth. I love this kind of artists, like PJ Harvey, Patti Smith, Björk, Hanin Elias. Thank u for this.
MIA, I am your biggest fan and your lyrics inspire me. I am a blue-collar worker in Louisiana and your message love, tolerance, and QUESTIONING the status quo (thinking of "Borders") give me hope for places like where I live. Louisiana, USA, unfortunately, has had corrupt politicians for centuries and it is sad to see them continue to get away with their exploitation of their constituents as people in Louisiana have mostly given up hope but you never stop: You know what you're about and act to help the world with your talents and fame. You are a generous, caring, creative, and quite beautiful public servant to Earth in the form of a rapper/musician: The world would be much better if other talented musicians would use their platform to expose the BS as you do rather than to focus only on their popularity and "career(s)" as musicians. I am a musician and writer myself and emulate you in my approach to both. MUCH love and admiration, keep fighting, and you make a difference in average people's lives such as mine. Thank you -JC
Thank you for this interview. MIA helped shape the way I think as I was growing up. I saw everything she was put through and the fake narrative they created about her. Please watch her doc. It’s important.
Everything that Maya says makes so much sense if you're a GenX-er coming from a "third world" region, from the edges of so-called mainstream culture, where the true counterculture has nothing to do with Anglo-centric views of the world... the Other(ed) cultures. I get her completely... I also get her reluctance to jump back into making music and her jadedness about the industry and the whole system of how art and culture is being marketed and consumed. So many new fucking -isms to navigate. It's not a conducive space at all for making genuine honest artistic work. Truth and lies, truth and lies.
she is a talented & heroic female artist who has been through a lot, seen a lot of things I can't even bear to think of in a war torn environment and still endures. I feel for her and the difficulties in her career over a long span of time. sad to hear about her Mom been banned from coming the US? !!!! insane and beyond sickening. I don't think I could hold up so well emotionally if I had to go through what she has experienced. she is more original than most hip hop artists, has important & relevant things to say and it's time she be heard again! release new music on your website M.I.A. and skip the f'd up distribution system ! Me and all your other fans will be there to support you ****
thank you, one of the very best interviews I've seen on her, and almost every video I've seen on her is amazing!!!! one of the smartest, most honest human beings to exist.
This is a very important conversation. I love that she has always chose the path of truth and art first. Time to wake up. Thanks for the great interviews Strombo
when it comes to balancing transparency and being understanding but not conforming for or condemning participants of pop culture, and maintaining a certain level of quality work all at the same time, MosDef Dave Chappelle and M.I.A. are the three most impressive human beings in pop culture... . there are some other notable mentions but i think these 3 got it at the moment
It took me a while to really get into her outside of Paper Planes and a few of the other things she's mostly known for but I've grown to really appreciate her. Her debut records is one of my favorite albums of all time
wow! This is one of the best M.I.A. interviews I've seen! Thank you, George! And I just can't resign myself either to the fact she wants to stop making music :-((( Maybe she can get back to film making and include new great music in it? (There are lots of independant cinemas who would program her films and invite her to talk about them.) So we, her fans, will buy her sountracks and still bang on them! :-) As a DJ, I discovered her music when "Kala" came out. It was a joyfull spanking and from then I never had a party without (at least) playing one of her tracks. Whoelse in the music business combines killer beats, strong relevant contents and absolute coolness?
I'm a few years older than Mathangi and during this period of life the future is going to be defined by what we decide to sacrifice - the decisions and energy we put towards making something sacred.
Word. The comments about the current state of music being beholden to Spotify and Facebook , which she rightly points out that these are American Companies, hence American musical taste becomes the filter. She is also dead right about America music being white or black, with no other possible voice.
Shes so authentic and true. I can understand he frustrations with the industry and hypocrisy of the trending SJW messages and how everything's based on selective preference AND convenience!... I really wis her the best, and hope something changes for her in regards with getting more tangible results and manifestations from her work and artistry. I'm very appreciative of the exposure she gave tamil culture in a global platform being of tamil descent myself!
MIA Dont Go Away I Love U the World Love U We Need More MIAs in this World I Still Listen to Your Music And Can't Wait to Hear What Ever New U Come out Wit Love Me Sum MIA Always Keeping it Gangsta 💯💯💯 Best Interview Ever Thanks Strombo U the Man
17:31 The movie Wall-E is exactly what she is talking about! Just like in the movies we're gonna end up like the humans to where we're totally dependent on technology and completely disconnect with reality!!!
Quite the interview here from the British goddess of hiphop herself. And every single time I put on the AIM T-SHIRT? I feel like god himself. I thank her for that!✈️PIRATES ❤️💃🏽🔦🥇🥂✌️

She has such an amazing view on globalization that is completely different from the shallow garbage we hear from the average celeb. Love her
Totally agree. An intelligent, talented lady who doesn't suffer fools. Love that
She is definitely more deep and intelligent than any other average celeb.
Not to mention..she's freaking gorgeous...😍😍😍
Every interview of hers for the past 15 years is just fantastic
Just finished watching her Oxford talk now here I am. Really needed this MIA overload tonight thanks

Agreed with everything you said...however I don't consider her a hip-hop artist...she has created her own genre for some time...😊
thank you, one of the very best interviews I've seen on her, and almost every video I've seen on her is amazing!!!! one of the smartest, most honest human beings to exist.
Watching AFTER watching the doc. Her granny's advice at the end,.. Keep singing... She will be back, somehow, and I will be ready to embrace it!
This is a very important conversation. I love that she has always chose the path of truth and art first. Time to wake up. Thanks for the great interviews Strombo
