How should a smaller DB attack a big receiver in press coverage, especially on deep throws? Also, could you take a look at Cam Dantzler? Kid looked better on tape than at combine, but thought you’d be a lot better at the deep dive.
As a smaller DB a good way to attack a bigger receiver is to be a pest. Get into their bodies and fight pressure with pressure because alot of them struggle running good crisp routes. When you do this it throws off their timing and gets them out of sorts. Also I will do one on cam dantzler soon he is one of my favorite corners in the draft.
Much respect I would say work on your feet. Most tall corners like yourself struggle with footwork and getting in and out of your breaks. So that is going to be a major key.
Great video as always! But for QB's that are under center, aren't their drops going to be slightly different than in shotgun when the DB is reading them in off coverage? For example, a 3 step drop from under center is quick game, while a 5-7 step drop is intermediate/deep routes?
Yes you are correct I was taught in college to assume when a QB is in shotgun he has already taken a 3 step drop . Which is why most time during quick game in shot gun they won't even drop just turn and throw
I’m still a little confused on the whole opening up the gate and flipping your hips part, you seem a little overly picky about it. When are you supposed to turn and run? You can’t stay square with a guy forever
