I am not surprised of Ibaka being a multilinguist because every African, born and raised up in Africa, is either a bilinguist or multilinguist because of very easy interaction among the many tribes, and the colonially imposed languages such as French, English, Portuguese and Spanish that became the national languages of the respective colonial states. Serge Jonas Ibaka Ngobila is from Congo-Brazaville. speaks 4 languages; Lingala, , French, English and Spanish. He is very intelligent. His late mother is from Congo-Kinshasa(today’s D.R.C). Both his mother and his father were basketball players. His father played in the Republic of the Congo and with the Congolese national team, and his mother played for the Democratic Republic of the Congo. After his father was imprisoned, Ibaka moved to France at the age of 17 and joined a second-division basketball team before moving to Spain, where he taught himself Spanish. I speak Luo Alur, Acholi, Lingala, Swahili, English and Swedish, but also have a basic understanding of Norwegian and Danish. I learnt Swedish from the age of 26. This is the beauty and virtue of Africa because we can communicate with the whole world. You're right Ben Sj, Spanish IS the language of Spain, the spanish from some other countries are a little bit different, especially the way they pronounce the words.
