ELIZABETH TAYLOR'S first of 4 OSCAR NOMINATIONS in a row. The only actress to receive this status. "Raintree County," "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof," "Suddenly Last Summer," and "Butterfield 8" for which she would win. To me, if "Gone With The Wind" were remade, she would have been a perfect Scarlet O'Hara. She is a rare beauty with a rare talent. RIP Dame Elizabeth 💜
I don't think you can really compare this movie to Gone with the Wind, which was one of those epic movies that depict important events in history, and this movie may take place in the same time of Gone with the Wind, but the story is much different and holds its own. But then again, the public seems to judge movies so easily without realizing how much went into it's making. Any film with Elizabeth in it never disappointed, but the public never seemed to be happy, but those opinions don't matter.
I love watching these old movies! Makes me want to live in those days. Elizabeth and Montgomery are perfect and even if this movie did not get high reviews, it is still a wonderfully exciting and entertaining movie. Isn't that what film is all about? Gosh I miss them!!
Soulmates of a deep kind - Liz and Monty. She kept him from choking to death in that crash. She climbed in the wreckage, the story goes, to save him. And supposedly told the crowd of ghoul photographers who showed up, "Take even one foto of this and none of you will ever work again.." As brave as she was stunningly beautiful, Ms. Taylor had it all....Good looks, intelligence, and absolutely indomitable courage...RIP dear lady..
Blu-Ray release? This film needs a 4K Blu-Ray release too. It's a 70mm film negative. That translates to native 12K resolution. They should do an 8K scan, since that's the best right now, then do a true native 4K transfer to UHD Blu-Ray. It would be incredibly detailed, with very fine grain. No need to use DNR! They should use Dolby Vision encoding for this film transfer as it's announced to be using 4:4:2 chroma subsampling.
I am here learning about race relations in the United States and I am trying to find where Elizabeth Taylor describes the worst of fates to befall whites as “havin’ a little Negra blood in ya’-just one little teeny drop and a person’s all Negra.” This thinking flows from what Marvin Harris has characterized as the principle of hypo-descent
as someone interested in creative writing, i find Lockridge to one of the most creative writers. i feel i really know the characters and how he deals with the great spiritual forces of life, love, death, God, temptation, desire and the consequences of manipulation and choice are challenging. all of it taking place in Raintree County a make believe Garden of Eden with its own Raintree and the giving into desire that makes all love stories interesting. have been reading the novel, slowly but surely as it is packed with symbolism, drama and meaning.
I don't think GWTW is regarded as fluff, to be fair. And the book certainly isn't. I enjoyed both very much and would say the book is the apotheosis (for good or bad) of the myth of the Old South in literature. Plus, the book's presentation of Scarlett O'Hara was daring for its day and genre. Raintree County, you're right, as a bookis regarded as anti-fluff. :)
I can’t help but think even crazy Elizabeth Taylor outshines Eva Marie Saint in all ways. EMS character comes off as bitchy throughout the movie in the beginning she wants nothing to do with Johnny and laughs at him for searching for the rain tree then when she’s not taking jabs at his marriage she suddenly gains interest.
@marekerhardt Sorry but Raintree County is a poor man's GWTW!!! It was not highly regarded, and although I love it because of Liz and Monty, it can't hold a candle to GWTW, which is one of the great movies of all time.
Please, Please PLEASE let me see a restored Bluray of Raintree before I pass on. The recent copy shown on TCM looked fine so if the full version will never be issued then I and many others would be satisfied with that version
+ The movie is good but the book was one of the best novels I've ever read. I think it is time to reread it. For some reason the movie is almost impossible to find.
It’s not one of the Liz and Monty’s best . And I think Eva M. Saint looks kinda trashy for the part. I hear the book is good but you are right it is over bloated
Brillantly Acted and Beautiful Cinematography , Its A Forgotten Classic , The Novel Was Well Written , GWTW Is a Complete differant Film , I Prefer Raintree County Simply b cuz the Acting .
The most beautiful woman in the WORLD rest in peace Elizabeth
I agree, I wish I had a wife like Elizabeth!
I just bought this movie for 45 cents at the Thirft store. 😍
Lmao I saw this go like 60$ on Amazon
I'll just wait to score like you did and save like 60$ with 40 cents less LMAO
Why oh why is this great movie not available in Blu Ray/DVD, come on MGM let us have one of the best A.S.A.P
この映画見たいのにどこ探してもない!大好きな映画です。

LOVE THIS MOVIE♥ thank you for the reminder lol
Die Geschichte des Regenbaumes, der den Finder den Sinn des Lebens verstehen lässt.
Monty had that terrible crash during this production. Liz saved his life.
This book is really a masterpiece. If you read it at the right time in your life, you will never forget it.
Tina Walton what is the right age to read it?
@@rallara not about age, don't know if you read it yet but it is a very introspective piece of work over 1,000 pages long.

isn't it a coincidence that Elizabeth Taylor was on North and South. I, however, forgot which series... she's so breathtakingly beautiful.
I am so deeply sorry to hear of Elizabeth's passing today. My condolences to her family, freinds and loved ones. She was quite the gal.
I agree, I wish I had a wife like Elizabeth!
Sad that this has never been out on DVD in the US

What does everyone think of Elizabeth Taylor's eyebrows in Raintree County? Just wondering...
Absolutely beautiful eyebrows. Mine are like he's.
Read the novel! If you've read the book, please reply.

His face changed during halfway of the movie because of crash.
Rest In Peace Robert Evans Holladay. You found the Raintree long ago.

I almost forgot this movie of elizabeth taylor but it was a great one. Even though my favorites were Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, and GIANT.
Liz and Monty ! and this movie was after his car accident
Wonderful Elizabeth Taylor, Montgomery Clift and Eva Marie Saint. I love them. Wonderful film.

The novel was a challenge.
Me encanta esa película, me encanta el protagonista 😍❤️💯
It was in HD on TCM recently. Watched it on Hulu.
Elizabeth Taylor vs Eva Marie Saint, stay tuned.....

@marekerhardt wow did you really just call someone a commie? is that the best insult you've got? what year is this?
Oh after the car accident? No wonder he looked more like CNN's Anderson Cooper than M Clift.
the first half was before the accident
Horribly bloated, almost unwatchable film...
Nurse Grace OMG. One of the best historical post Civil War books and films ever produced.
Yeah, It is terrible
